3 Chairman

As I start my second year as Chairman of the Centre, I truly hope that 2021 proves to be a vast improvement on 2020. When we started off last year we all pulled together as a Committee and finalised what promised to be a great programme. Who could have predicted what was to come in the form of Covid 19 and eventually the whole season was disrupted with only a handful of Socially Distanced rallies surviving the chop. As we prepare for this year, we still can’t be sure of what the situation will be like and if we will still have to run rallies under Covid restrictions, but we are grateful to Tony for putting together a varied programme that we hope will run unhindered. Most rallies now have Marshals, however there are still a couple which need covering, so could I ask you to consider giving your time for one weekend in the year and to volunteer to take one of the remaining rallies. Remember, No Marshal, No Rally. If these aren’t taken within a few weeks they will be cancelled. There is to be No National rally this year so we have decided to organise a local event over the Spring Bank Holiday in May ,at which we hope to have entertainment each evening. This will coincide with the Centre’s 55th Anniversary so let’s try and make it an event to remember. As time moves on we will need to look for some new blood to apply for Committee places for the following year or the Centre could well be in trouble. So if anyone out there thinks they would like to know more about what is required then please don’t hesitate to ask us so that we can prepare in good time. All that remains for me to say is Stay Safe and we look forward to seeing you all out on a rally field in the coming year. If you need to contact me you are always welcome to send a message through our website.

What is a Rally?

aravan Club members, with or without children, meet regularly to socialise and enjoy their shared interest in caravanning. Venues are varied, including C many village locations, stately homes, and occasionally, commercial sites. The aim is to provide something for everyone. The programme is designed so that the venues move around the County to keep the travelling times fair, wherever you live, and at longer weekends and holidays we travel further afield. Directions are given from . All venues are signed with yellow LCC arrows to help you to find us. At first it might seem strange spending a weekend so close to home– but Leicestershire is a lovely county when you really get to know it.

Rallies are organised by members who volunteer to be the Marshal for the weekend. They decide on the activities, which are then shown in this book and on our website. Activities vary, but usually include a cup of tea or coffee on Friday night when you can meet other members of the Club. On Saturdays a huge variety of events take place such as a ramble and possibly a ‘social’ in the evening. None of the activities are compulsory, but you will soon make friends if you do join in.

Socials reflect the facilities available and the marshal’s own taste but may include a quiz, a disco, live entertainment or family games or other activities.

Why not come along? You will need to use your own sanitation, and run on gas and battery if we are not on a commercial site. Your battery WILL last all weekend if you don’t overdo the TV (but you will be too busy socialising to switch on!) and some people supplement their battery with a small portable solar panel. There will be plenty of people around who will help you out if you have any problems.

Fresh water for drinking and somewhere to empty the Elsan are always provided.

Your dog, cat or other pet is welcome, but please make sure they cannot stray. Dogs must be kept on a lead and owners are responsible for cleaning up behind any pets.

The First Steps. Choose your first rally from the following pages, book online, use a booking form (to be found later in this book), or contact the Rally Marshal or any Committee Member, then just turn up on Friday and enjoy yourself.

If you are unsure of anything telephone the marshal, he or she will tell you what they have planned and happily answer any questions you may have.

Guidelines for Guests

The Leicestershire Centre is always pleased to welcome guests onto rallies, either for the whole weekend, sleeping in a member’s caravan, during the day on Saturday or Sunday, or just for the Evening Social. However, there are guidelines that we would ask all members and rally marshals to keep in mind.

Tell the marshal that you have invited friends or family, and give them an idea of when your guests will arrive and leave. Then tell your guests to report to the marshal on arrival. In the event of an emergency, we need to know who is on the rally field.

If your guests wish to attend a social, you must book well in advance and ensure that the full costs are paid. There should be no problem at all when the social is held in a field with no restriction on numbers attending, but the marshals may be providing food, and will need to buy and prepare extra for your guests. Similarly, entertainment may have been arranged at a cost, which will then be shared by your guests.

When the social is held in a hall with a restriction on numbers, the Marshal must give priority to members attending with their caravans and then to guests staying overnight. Only if sufficient space is available in the hall after everyone on the rally has been catered for, can additional guests be allowed to attend the social only. Again, the guests must meet full costs. Never turn away a rallier in favour of allowing family or friends to attend a social – no matter what the occasion.

YELLOW FLAG

When the Rally Field is wet and unsuitable for cars, a yellow flag will be flown.

Under these circumstances members must not move cars at all on the rally field without the express permission of the Rally Marshal.

This ruling is to prevent excessive damage to the landowner’s property and your co- operation is essential.

Please note that this ruling applies equally to all motor vehicles, with or without four- wheel drive, traction control etc.

Now is the time to think about serving on the 2022 Committee.

Without volunteers, who form the Committee to ensure the smooth running of the Centre, plan the rallying programme, sporting events and social functions, we would not have a Centre. There are various jobs that need to be done, and your talent and expertise would be very much appreciated.

The best Committee is always formed when we are able to give members a choice - exercised by a vote at the AGM.

Are you able to spare one evening each month to help to run your club?

If you would like to know more, talk to one of this year's Committee Members and then let us have your nomination form which is available on the website. 29

To vote at the AGM your Centre Registration must be valid. Please check that your membership has been completed correctly so that you do not lose your right to vote.

Centre membership is not automatic. When you renew your Club membership you need to detach the slip, tick the box indicating membership of the Leicestershire Centre and return the slip to East Grinstead. Alternatively, you can do this online via the Caravan Club website.

It is most important that you remember to do this. Even though payment by direct debit is continuous, your centre membership is not. You have to tell East Grinstead every year that you wish to continue to be a member of the Leicestershire Centre.

Please don't forget - send your slip to East Grinstead now, so you are able to vote at the AGM this year. You must be registered at East Grinstead at least 35 days prior to the AGM. If you have a problem, phone the membership department today on 01342 318813 to ensure that you are a member of the Leicestershire Centre and entitled to vote at the AGM in October.

You will find a 'Renew Membership' button on the website which will take you directly to the Caravan Club's site where you can register on-line.

Thank you. See you at the AGM.
