Miami Florida Keys AMERICAN ROAD TRIP ADVENTURE AND THE Miami Florida Keys Explore the gorgeous beaches and lush mangrove forests that make up the southern tip of Florida. Snorkel at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park or take a ferry out to Dry Tortugas National Park. In this 9-night, 0-day itinerary roundtrip from Orlando, you will have the opportunity relax in the tropical oasis southern Florida provides. ITINERARY OVERVIEW Day 1 Arrive in Orlando and pick up your RV. After your orientation head to Fort Pierce, known for its beaches, surfing, and the National Navy SEAL Musuem. Overnight camping accommodation in Fort Pierce. Day 2 After a good night’s rest, drive south towards Miami. With great weather year- round, a stunning ecosystem, and miles of beaches, this is a great place to stop for a couple of nights. Overnight in Miami in a camping accommodation. Day 3 Enjoy another full day in Miami! This is a perfect opportunity to experience Everglades National Park or to explore some of Miami’s most popular sights like Miami Beach, the Wynwood Art District, or the vibrant Little Havana neighborhood. Overnight in Miami in a camping accommodation. Day 4 Drive south to the Florida Keys! Today you’ll drive the entire length of the island chain to Key West, stopping along the way to explore the little beach towns and gorgeous beaches of the Florida Keys. Overnight in Key West in a camping accommodation. Day 5 Explore Key West! Relax on white sandy beaches, take a boat, kayak, or snorkeling tour. In the afternoon, head to Mallory Square to experience Key West’s signature Sunset Celebration, a nightly festival that boasts magicians, jugglers, clowns, psychics, local musicians, artists, and food vendors that combine for an incredible cultural experience. You’ll enjoy so much about your time in the southernmost point of the US. Overnight in Key West in a camping accommodation. Day 6 Enjoy another full day in Key West. Consider taking a day trip out to Dry ortugas National Park or snorkel in some of the clearest waters in the US directly of the beach. Literary bufs can also visit Ernest Hemingway’s Home and Museum and then enjoy a cocktail at Sloppy Joe’s Bar, the author’s favorite watering hole in Key West. Overnight in Key West in a camping accommodation. Day 7 After a relaxing morning, take a short drive east towards the “heart of the Florida Keys,” Fiesta Key. This is a perfect home base from which to explore the incredible natural beauty and lush biodiversity of the Florida Keys. Overnight in Fiesta Key in a camping accommodation. Day 8 Explore Fiesta Key! Explore Bahia Honda State Park for beautiful views and fun ocean activities or head to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park to experience its underwater park. Overnight in Fiesta Key in a camping accommodation. Day 9 Pack up early and drive north to Kissimmee. Enjoy your afternoon at Lake Tohopekaliga’s waterfront park or enjoy one of the nearby Disney or Universal theme parks. Overnight in Kissimmee in a camping accommodation. Flagler. 1920 Casa Marina welcomes our first guests on New Year’s Eve and operated as a seasonal resort January through March for the first 10 years. 1935 Casa Marina survives The Great Hurricane of 1935 with no serious damage. 1942 The US Navy, by law of eminent domain, buys Casa Marina and converts it to officers’ quarters. It would remain as quarters until 1946. 1946 The resort was purchased from the government and operated under several owners through 1962. 1962 US military commandeered the resort during the Cuban Missile Crisis; installed missiles directed at Cuba and surrounded the property in barbed wire. The US Military briefly considered using Casa Marina as their permanent headquarters 1966 Purchased by Senator Spottswood, a 5th generation Key Wester who assisted his mother working the newsstand as a small boy. He leased the resort to the Westinghouse Corporation for training of 300 volunteers for the new Peace Corp.
