Homedale High homecoming events School Rodeo participant Jeff Homedale homecoming events were not completely quiet this Roeser loops a calf year as a photographer’s backdrop for the homecoming dance in the break a way Saturday night was struck by an egg thrown into the cafeteria as calf roping students celebrated the final evening of weeklong events. competition held “It was actually the photographer’s backdrop that took the earlier this month in damage from the vandalism,” Homedale Principal Mike Williams Homedale. The high said Wednesday. “As he was leaving an egg was thrown into the school rodeo events cafeteria. I don’t think he was the target, but he was the one who will take a break for got hit. It is my understanding from some of the chaperones that the and will the police department caught the kids involved. I don’t believe begin another series they were from our school or maybe even in school.” of events next Williams said he didn’t believe the vandals had a specific spring. Photo by target. He felt they were just throwing at anyone they could hit. William Bruce. “It is very ironic after hearing about the news about the man who got beat to death back east after someone threw an egg at him,” Williams explained. “I think it was a gang type thing. That is a little of my fear as an administrator. These kids will go out and throw eggs. If it is your personal property and you have a kid out there throwing eggs at your house and you go out and the kid gets mouthy. If you grab him in the heat of whatever, you could be in big trouble. A parent would say that we are teachers and we can’t do that, but if someone is destroying your property, you have a right to defend it. It does not matter who you are.” “I think we have had a couple of people in town who had their houses egged Friday night, but I still believe this year has been a little calmer then in the past,” Williams continued. “It still isn’t what it needs to be.” Several events have been banned from homecoming events because of vandalism problems in the past. Freshman “hell” week was one of those this year. In the past, students in the upper classes would force freshman students to do a variety of activities to initiate them into the high school. Williams said this year the school board, with Williams’ recommendation, banned freshman “hell” week. “We have never endorsed it in the past,” Williams said. “What they have done is the seniors would put lipstick on the freshman and they would make them walk on the white or blue tiles or do air-raid drills. We didn’t see the physical rough ‘em up, spank them here. But what the board did was completely ban it this year. We have been doing the battle this week, but I don’t know what went on with the activities downtown. I have heard that some paddling went on downtown, but we didn’t have any of that here. If it takes place on my school property I can take action, but if it happens outside of school, I really can’t do much. The people who did this will never be at a dance at this school again.” Homedale Police Chief Jeff Eidemiller said his department had the name of one student from Homedale High School who was involved and expected to interview the juvenile this week. He said possibly two students would be charged with malicious injury to property, but currently the attack was still under investigation. The charge would be a misdemeanor. The photographer’s backdrop suffered approximately $25 in damages. -CP

There are many groups, organization, businesses, and adults who try to do things for our young adults to help keep them out of trouble. That is why I was totally shocked to read about the tort claim against the Homedale City Councilman and Police Commissioner David Freelove, the City of Homedale, the City of Wilder and both cities police departments because of the action taken by Mr. Freelove. What a fine example of a city official for our kid when he: 1. Jumps the gun and acts on a false rumor that juveniles were drinking on the premises of the Owyhee Bowling lanes and restaurant. Was he that eager to try to get something on the kids? Would that have put a feather in his cap and made him the big man about town? 2. Gets picked-up for trespassing and a possible DUI. Oh, but wait, Mr. Freelove is still holding this position. Why hasn’t the residents of Homedale made him resign his position or at least give a public to the city residents and especially those 30-40 kids and the Owyhee Lanes and Restaurant? I am also wondering, what has Mr. Freelove done constructively for the kids? I’m sure we would all like to know the answer to that question!
