Parish Office Hours Phone Only M-Th: 8:30 a.m. - 4: 30 p.m. BulletinF: notices: 8:30 a.m. sackerman - Noon @kcnativity.org July 26, 2020 ’s Corner… On the of , the 26th of July marks the Feast of Sts. and Ann, the parents of the Blessed Mary, and the grandparents of the Lord Jesus. It is definitely a Feast for parents and grandparents. The tradition says that this couple had trouble conceiving. They prayed and prayed for a child and were older when Mary was conceived. So thankful for the gift of their daughter that shortly after her birth they took her to the temple and dedicated her to God. Like all parents, they knew their baby was special. But little did they know how God’s plan to bring forth the Savior would be carried out through their daughter. What good formation Mary received at their hands to be able to utter her faith-filled YES; “May it be done unto me according to your word,” when the Angel appeared to her. And just think what Joachim and Ann went through knowing what Mary would face being unwed and pregnant. For who would believe that the child was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit? What deep faith they have had! What love and support they must have been for Mary. Although there is no Scripture to record it, think of the joy they must have known to have Jesus as part of their . We should savor the joy of Christ being a part of our family as well! Happy Feast Day to all our parents and grandparents. Take some time today to thank God for the gift of your kids and grandkids. Good day for all of us to remember our parents and grandparents with love! Many Dioceses throughout the country have instituted praying the Prayer to St. after at the end of Sunday Mass. Archbishop Naumann has asked us to implement the practice here in the Archdiocese. I think the invitation is so timely. Just look at our country marked with division, chaos and a climate of fear. Those are the tools of the Evil One. Remember the First Letter of Peter instructs us: “Stay sober and alert! Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a lion waiting to devour you. Resist him, strong in your faith.” From the Scripture we are reminded of St. Michael’s role in defeating the enemy. Let’s remember to call upon St. Michael the to protect us against the snares and prompting of the devil and assist us in fighting the good fight as Christians making our way to the Kingdom. The Prayer to St. Michael is a good prayer to memorize, teach the kids, and pray often!

Prayer to Michael the Archangel St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, By the power of God, Thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, Who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Last Sunday our fulfilled some beautiful works of Mercy! Thanks to all who made really nice sack lunches for St. Mary’s Food Kitchen. And thanks for all who brought clothes for the Clothing Drive; it was the biggest ever! Mark your for our next Food Drive, which will take place Sunday, from 7 - 11 a.m. in the Church Parking Lot. As we were reminded last Sunday, GO VOTE! It’s our civic duty, which carries a moral responsibility to bring our Catholic values to bear in choosing those who will represent us and be our voice! The Value Them Both Amendment is at stake in Kansas. If you have not done so, please go to our website and watch the powerful video featuring former Chiefs Kicker, Dustin Colquitt. He gives a beautiful witness to the sanctity of human life and a compelling plea for the Value Them Both Amendment in Kansas! I pray for our parish family every day. Have a great week! Fr. Mike

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time 4 Parish Life Considering Becoming Catholic? Got Questions...RCIA Has Answers

▪ Why DO Catholics do the things they do?? ▪ What is the MASS all about anyway? ▪ What do Catholics believe and why? ▪ How is the Catholic faith different from other faith traditions? ▪ What is the role of Mary and the Saints for Catholics? ▪ What’s what in the Church? Take a guided tour.

WHAT is RCIA and WHO is it for? RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process used by Catholic parishes to welcome and prepare adults who are considering becoming Catholic or baptized Catholics that are completing their Sacraments. WHEN and WHERE is RCIA? We meet on Sundays from 8:45 - 10:45 a.m. from mid-September through April in the lower level of the Church, with proper safety precautions in place. If the participant chooses to complete the process and is ready, they join the Church and receive their Sacraments at the Easter on Holy Saturday evening. WHY should I begin RCIA? To learn more about the Catholic faith, receive the Sacraments, draw closer to Christ in community and find greater peace and strength for the journey. HOW do I get started or find out more information? For more information or to register, visit www.kcnativity.org/becoming-catholic-rcia or contact Mary Lambrechts, Nativity’s RCIA Director at 913.334.4367 or [email protected].

Our priority is to ensure that our students, teachers, and staff can confidently return to a safe and healthy school building conducive to teaching, learning, and faith formation.

With smaller class sizes, we will have plenty of space to distance desks in our classrooms.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we ask that you keep our students and staff in your thoughts and prayers as we continue to show one another how important Catholic education truly is. Together, with Christ, we’ve got this!
