Kate Starbird WWW.GOSTANFORD.COM • 21 STANFORD IN FIBA • Head coach Tara VanDerveer, Jennifer Azzi, and Katy Steding were all part of the Olympic Gold Medal-winning USA Basketball Team at the 1996 Atlanta Games. • Tara VanDerveer boasts a career international record of 88-8 at the helm of various USA Basketball teams, including a perfect 60-0 run in 1995-96 as head coach of the USA Basketball Olympic Team. • Current team member Jillian Harmon and 2006 graduate Clare Bodensteiner became the first Stanford players to represent a country other than the United States when they played for New Zealand at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. • Candice Wiggins became the most recent Stanford addition to the USA Senior National Team, helping the American side to the 2008 Good Luck Beijing title. • Current Cardinal players Jayne Appel, Sarah Boothe, Nnemkadi Ogwumike, and Kayla Pedersen have all been part of various championship USA Basketball youth national teams.
