SHAKESPEARE SCHOOLS PERFORMANCE

On Tuesday 14 November 2017, 24 students from Years 8-10 performed their performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Curve Theatre in .

This was part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, which involves nearly 30,000 young people from primary, secondary and special schools across the country and unite to be a part of the world’s largest drama festival.

Students began preparing and rehearsing their performance in June, which also enabled the students to have a workshop at the Curve Theatre from professional theatre makers.

On the night of their performance all of the students were excellent and it was a testament to all their hard work. They all received excellent feedback and were complimented on their professionalism and acting talent. Well done to all involved!

ICELAND PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

During Term 2 we have ran 2 Iceland Photography trip workshops after College to prepare students for their upcoming Iceland Trip in February 2018.

During the workshops, the students had the opportunity to consider professional digital editing of black and white landscape photographs and experiment with light painting, considering slow shutter speed and composition.

The workshops were successful and students gained confi dence with manually programming a camera, and built their excitement for the trip in the New Year.

During the trip, students will visit famous black beaches & coastlines, the distinctive city of Reykjavik and the National Photography Museum.

Students will gain further knowledge of photography skills and techniques through primary photography in breathtaking and stunning rural and urban surroundings in Iceland. LONDON THEATRE TRIP

Some of the experiences available for students included using a range of CAD software, virtual reality modelling, robotics, use of Raspberry Pi computers and the chance to learn about computer control in production as well as the internet of things.

This offered younger students a taste of some of the technologies they will explore in Design & Technology and allowed the GCSE students the opportunity to get hands on with some of the technologies covered on the curriculum.

Our thanks to all at RS who made the visit possible and the day so interesting for the students.

Against Old Lady’s Convent they were a different team. Far more aggressive and reacting quicker to situations. Louise had more scoring opportunities and Verity and Krissy had an excellent game in attack. A 6-1 win gave us the confi dence that we needed to take the game to the next level. In our next match against Thomas Estley we were determined to get another win under our belt. Holly, Annie and Katie supported one another well in defence, regaining possession of the ball allowing us the opportunity to score 9 goals with some excellent goals scored by Georgia Mckinley, giving us a 9-4 win.

Wigston Academy came out strongly against us and had the advantage of the fi rst centre pass. We were slow to get started which meant that in the second half we had a lot to do. We fi nished the match playing well, driving for the ball

catmosecollege.com | facebook.com/catmosecollege CONNECT CHOCOLATE BAR COMPETITION The art department recently ran the Rutland Fairtrade Chocolate bar competition which received a fantastic response from students. After a great deal of deliberation 3 fi nalists were selected from over 50 entries to be considered by the Rutland Fairtrade Company. The fi nalists were Harrison Lang, Jessica Stanton and Ellen Wilson. These pupils were invited to develop their designs into a professional chocolate bar wrapper using Photoshop software, which were then judged by three representatives from Rutland Fairtrade. Overall, the judges were very impressed with the quality of all 3 of the short-listed designs. It was a diffi cult decision but the judges felt that the submission by Harrison Lang met the key requirements, commenting:

“We liked the hand drawn artwork which portrays the impression that the Rutland Chocolate bar is a premium souvenir product”

Harrisons winning entry will now be professionally produced and the Fairtrade product will be sold around Rutland… Congratulations Harrison!

RUGBY SUCCESS

The Catmose College Year 11 rugby team have played 2 games in the last term, the fi rst round and the quarter fi nals of the Leicestershire and Rutland county cup. The fi rst game was a good performance from the team against a strong Kibworth School team. Catmose took an early lead of two tries and were looking to capitalise on that, however Kibworth started to break the Catmose line and soon after half time the game started to look more even. Another strong start to the second half from Catmose put them up to 24 points, after converting the 2 tries. Kibworth then fought back again scoring 2 tries bringing the score up to 24 - 22 to Catmose College, both sides giving their all in the last 10 minutes, Catmose were able to hang on and take the win in their fi rst game of the season. The Year 11’s made a good start to the competition.

Catmose then travelled to Hastings High School in Hinckley for the Quarter Finals. It was a tight start to the game with 2 tries a piece in the opening 30 minutes of the game, with Hastings coming out on top 12-10 after a conversion at half time. The start of the second half saw Ben Gregory and Matt Bradley lead the defensive line keeping Hastings’ attack quiet with some strong tackles, giving Jimi Wigmore and Will Andrews freedom to control the play, releasing Tom Kirkland to score his 3rd 4th and 5th tries of the game taking the score to 27-12 and securing Man of the Match. A great performance in the end by Catmose winning the game strongly with excellent character and discipline. Catmose will host in the Semi Finals of the cup next year with hopes to get through to the fi nals.
