WEST TORRENS DISTRICT CRICKET CLUB RECORDS (Included Are the Records for the Hindmarsh C.C WEST TORRENS DISTRICT CRICKET CLUB RECORDS (included are the records for the Hindmarsh C.C. established in 1856-57 season, the former name of the present Club) INTRODUCTION These records have been compiled to replace those destroyed during the 1950s and are designed to satisfy the interest of cricket historians, former players and supporters of the Club. They can also be used to assist current players set new seasonal goals and assess their performances against those of the past. Included are performances registered during World Wars One and Two in what is sometimes referred to as the Unofficial SACA competition. As hostilities worsened in 1915 the SACA, as part of austerity measures, wanted to abandon District Cricket altogether. However a counter argument was put by players and Clubs that young men preparing to go to war, home on leave or involved in essential services needed to keep fit. A compromise was reached whereby the SACA organised an official program of matches for which points would be allocated but no finals were played and no official Premierships awarded nor awards granted. A similar situation occurred during World War Two. Unfortunately these performances were not acknowledged in the Club’s history From the Circus to the Pughole. The general consensus of current cricket historians is that these matches should be counted as official Club matches as they were part of a program organised by the SACA. There was no program of District matches during 1916-17, 1917-18 and 1942-43. The statistics have been compiled from newspapers such as The Register, The Observer, The Advertiser and the Sunday Mail. All available Annual Reports of the WTDCC have been researched as have been any available scorebooks. I am indebted to Geoff Sando, Cricket Historian and Statistician, for his invaluable help in assisting and advising me in the compilation of these records. Records from B grade down to the lower grades may be incomplete owing to the fact that full scoreboards of B grade matches were not all published prior to World War Two and in an abbreviated form after World War Two. C, D and Junior grade scores were only ever published in an abbreviated form or not at all. Consequently there may be omissions in these grades particularly in respect to partnerships. Partnerships in lower senior grades are listed as large rather than as records. Where a performance is recorded in a match played on dates which included more than one month, only the month of the first day of the match is listed e.g. a match played on 30 October and 6 November is recorded simply as October. Denis Brien WTDCC Historian/Archivist If we destroy People’s Achievements And History Then We deny their existence These records have been compiled to Show that ordinary People can Aspire to great heights And are recorded here to preserve those achievements Denis Brien (Rocka) (inspired by the Monument Men) A GRADE RECORDS (1st Grade) BATTING Highest Aggregates Career (4500 runs) Andrew Haslett 6781 (as at end of 2012-13) David Cassidy 6770 Ron Hamence 5808 Brian Isaac 5731 Andy Smith 5412 Ben Higgins 5401 Alfred (Fred) Jarvis 5213 * Ian Edgley 4995 Phil Ridings 4904 Malcolm Howell 4888 James Pyke 4844 Jack Carr 4807 Jarrad Taylor 4664 Arthur (Affie) Jarvis 4575 * Tim Nielsen 4563 Season (600 runs) Paul Nobes 974 runs @ 88.54 1987-88 Kelvin Smith 904 @ 129.14 2018-19 Charlie Dolling 856 @ 71.33 1922-23 Paul Clarke 847 @ 60.50 1991-92 Merv Waite 809 @ 73.54 1935-36 David Cassidy 774 @ 40.73 1989-90 Alan Shepherd 751 @ 57.76 1934-35 Ian Edgley 740 @ 61.67 1977-78 Paul Nobes 732 @ 122.00 1990-91 Ben Higgins 730 @ 56.15 2003-04 Ben Higgins 716 @ 51.14 2002-03 Dinny Conroy 668 @ 44.53 1930-31 Jarrad Taylor 663 @ 34.89 2006-07 Merv Waite 658 @ 54.83 1933-34 Kelvin Smith 646 @ 53.83 2017-18 Peter Barty 637 @ 45.50 1984-85 Leigh Drennan 625 @ 52.08 2016-17 Lindsay Head 623 @ 38.93 1956-57 Ron Hamence 619 @ 88.42 1941-42 James Pyke 613 @ 61.30 1991-92 Andrew Haslett 613 @ 36.06 2002-03 Malcolm Howell 612 @ 55.63 1991-92 Daniel Drew 605 @ 35.89 2017-18 Angus Woolcock 603 @ 50.25 1929-30 Malcolm Howell 603 @ 40.20 1994-95 Merv Waite 601 @ 46.23 1931-32 Andy Smith 600 @ 49.00 1919-20 * includes runs made for Hindmarsh – the former name of the WTDCC – and West Torrens Top Ten scores 1. Fig 2 CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY Football Park (currently also known by its sponsored name of AAMI Stadium) is an Australian rules football stadium located in West Lakes, a western suburb of Adelaide, the state capital of South Australia, Australia. It was built in 1973 by the South Australian National Football League and opened in 1974 and was until the end of the 2013 season the home ground of both the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power, who play in the Australian Football League (AFL). With a seated capacity of 51,515 Football Park is the fifth largest Australian rules football stadium in Australia in terms of crowd capacity, behind Docklands Stadium in Melbourne (56,347), Stadium Australia in Sydney (81,500) and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (100,018). Adelaide Oval will host the Adelaide Crows and the Port Adelaide Power Australian Football League teams from 2014 onwards and has a capacity of 54,500; it is the fourth largest football stadium in Australia.1 Ground was broken for Football Park in 1971, giving the SANFL its own venue after years of playing out of the Adelaide Oval which is controlled by the South Australian Cricket Association.2 The SANFL had wanted their own home stadium for a number of years and finally settled on the undeveloped swampland at West Lakes in 1970 (the same year as the similarly designed, but larger VFL Park opened in Melbourne).3 1.

  • 2012 a Record to Commemorate the Seventy–Fifth Anniversary of the Club
WOODVILLE DISTRICT CRICKET CLUB 1937 – 2012 A RECORD TO COMMEMORATE THE SEVENTY–FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CLUB INTRODUCTION In September, 2012 the Woodville District Cricket Club celebrated its seventy-fifth anniversary. This publication includes references to the early Woodville Cricket Club first formed in 1874, and a history relating to the establishment of the Club in 1937 and its progress to admission to the South Australian Cricket Association District Cricket Competition. I have drawn on two publications that I have previously produced: - June, 1976 titled “ History of the Woodville District Cricket Club Inc. 1937-1976 “ prepared in conjunction with the centenary celebrations of the City of Woodville (1), and - September, 2009 - “Woodville District Cricket Club- Performances, Statistics and Other Club Records: 1937/1938 - 2008/2009” (2). The 75th anniversary has provided the opportunity to consolidate Club records. As a consequence this publication includes a comprehensive record of office holders, the significant achievements and performances of players along with other statistical details of Club performances. Parts II-VI includes these records and represents a collection established, added to, and maintained since 1973. The records and statistics do track the path of history. In some instances the date of creating the particular record is shown. What is produced in relation to player performances and State representation do not include the separate State and A Grade One Day and Twenty20 competitions. The contribution that many individuals have made to the establishment and performance of the Club, and its enduring existence over its 75 year history can, to some extent, be measured by what is recorded in the various parts of this publication.
