Description of Commercial Job Titles, Experience, Functional Responsibility and Education Requirements for Employees Who will Perform Services: HVAC Technician 1 – Entry level thru apprenticeship completion, capable of assisting with PM services and all related labor based activities. A High School diploma is required however a technical school certificate in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning is preferred but not required. A working knowledge of mechanical systems and associated commercial/industrial safety requirements and (6) months experience is required. Refrigeration theory, control systems, pipe fitting, etc., is a plus. A valid Driver’s License and an EPA Certification are also necessary (CAT 3). HVAC Technician 2 – Associate‘s Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning; and three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Technician shall possess a working knowledge of refrigeration theory, air systems, control applications, pipe fitting, and structural layouts and the ability to service positive displacement HVAC equipment. A valid Driver’s License and an EPA Certification and individual trade license, if state required, are also necessary (CAT 2). HVAC Technician 3 – Associate‘s Degree or equivalent from a technical/trade school, with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning; and five (5) years related experience with increasing responsibility; or seven (7) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Technician shall possess a working knowledge of refrigeration theory, control applications, air and water systems, pipe fitting, structural layouts and the ability to service larger tonnage, positive and non- positive displacement HVAC equipment. A valid Driver’s License, EPA Certification and individual trade license, if state required, is also necessary (CAT 1).
