Premier League, 2018–2019 “The Premier League is one of the most difficult in the world. There's five, six, or seven clubs that can be the champions. Only one can win, and all the others are disappointed and live in the middle of disaster.” —Jurgen Klopp Hello Delegates! My name is Matthew McDermut and I will be directing the Premier League during WUMUNS 2018. I grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey, a town not far from New York City. I am currently in my junior year at Washington University, where I am studying psychology within the pre-med track. This is my third year involved in Model UN at college and my first time directing. Ever since I was a kid I have been a huge soccer fan; I’ve often dreamed of coaching a real Premier League team someday. I cannot wait to see how this committee plays out. In this committee, each of you will be taking the helm of an English Football team at the beginning of the 2018-2019 season. Your mission is simple: climb to the top of the world’s most prestigious football league, managing cutthroat competition on and off the pitch, all while debating pressing topics that face the Premier League today. Some of the main issues you will be discussing are player and fan safety, competition with the world’s other top leagues, new rules and regulations, and many more. If you have any questions regarding how the committee will run or how to prepare feel free to email me at [email protected].

The EFL regularly communicates with supporters on various subjects but this is the first time since 2010 that it has carried out such a detailed and comprehensive survey. The response has been fantastic and close to 30,000 supporters took the time to fill in the online survey. I would like to thank everyone who responded as their input will prove invaluable to Clubs and the EFL as we look to capture the thoughts and feelings of supporters across a broad range of subjects. This year we asked a range of questions that reflect the football landscape in 2019, which touched on aspects of life outside of the traditional matchday experience. We also sought views on fans’ feelings regarding their club, their routine when travelling to a game, their attitude to inclusion, live streaming, broadcasting and a whole host of other topics. In sharing their views across such a broad range of football-related topics, supporters have given us the insight that will help us shape future policy and ensure that the League continues to meet the needs of fans. • Leagues Competitions Overview
Leagues’ Competitions Overview SEASON 2021/22 01 Leagues’ Competitions Overview SEASON 2021/22 FOREWORD League Football is back! In the middle of a summer rich of sport events with Euro 2020 finally cheered by the public in the stadiums and the Olympic Games successfully delivered in Tokyo, the football arenas are ready to welcome back fans and players for an exciting new season of domestic club football. We are glad to present to the whole football community this Leagues’ Competitions Overview, a document which contains - country by country- all key competition elements of our Member Leagues. During the past years, a few Leagues have presented innovations in their Competition Formats which we are happy to display in this report. Fans across Europe can now enjoy traditional league formats but also championships with new and creative competition systems with the introduction of play-off & play-out mechanisms which generate more compelling and interesting final parts of the season for their participating clubs, whether to win the title or to qualify for a European ticket but also to gain the permanence in the top division or its access. Other innovations are related to the introduction of new Kick-Off Times over the weekend to match the interests of a growing international audience and those of broadcasting and other commercial partners. And of course, the report provides insights on the Calendar and Players’ Transfer Windows for the approaching season for both all our summer and winter leagues. The Calendar for the upcoming 2020/21 season appears rich of games but also quite congested as we are approaching 2022 - the year with the FIFA World Cup in November/December – with its unusual and highly debated schedule which will impact domestic league football calendars for more than a season.
