I wanted to travel. I wanted to see Paris… So that’s how it ends, huh? Alone and forgotten in a tiny room, living on cat food and broken dreams—what’s what happens to mothers. Look at yours. She came for the weekend, the weeks turned into months, its twelve years later and she’s still up there: deceived, deluded, smoking in the attic. A grandma. Well, I’m not going to end up like your mother. You lied to me, and I can’t live with that.` MORTICIA ADDAMS: Gomez - do you love your daughter? Do you care for her mental well-being? Do you want her to spend the rest of her days hating us because we let her ruin her life? Now stop prattling and go tell her the dinner is off. You’re the father. The father is the canceller. And if after 25 years of marriage, you can't do this one thing for me, then I just don't know what! MORTICIA ADDAMS: Humiliated! Shamed! Mortified! I told that the woman we kept nothing from each other. I am a wonderful mother, and look at the things I get. I gave up my dreams for the sake of this family. I wanted to travel. I wanted to see Paris! I never saw the sewers of Paris! And now it’ll never happen! So this is how it ends... Alone and forgotten in a tiny room, living on cat food and broken dreams – that’s what happens to mothers. Look at yours. She came for the weekend, it’s 12 years later and she’s still up there: Deceived. Diluted. Well, I’m not going to end up like your mother. You lied to me, I can’t live with that. WEDNESDAY ADDAMS: OK, family meeting. About tonight. Now. Here’s the schedule. First, we have drinks, like ‘Hi, nice to meet you.’ And then they’ll want to see the house, and then at eight, we’ll have dinner and they can be back at their hotel by nine thirty. Oh please, Daddy! It’s just a dinner, and they’re dying to meet you—and I promised Lucas—and you know how I hate to break a promise. Daddy, I’m your only daughter and your eldest child, and if you can’t do this one thing for me, then I just don’t know what! WEDNESDAY ADDAMS: Daddy, I have something to tell you. Can you keep a secret? Oh Daddy, Lucas wants to marry me! Lucas Beineke loves me and he wants to marry me. And I think I want to marry him. Well, I’ve never met his parents, and he’s never met mine, and – I just need to be sure that the families will get along. I mean, he hast to know what he’s getting into. I mean we’re who we are, and there from Ohio. But, we can’t tell mother – Daddy, please! She’ll ask a lot of embarrassing questions and wreck the whole thing. After dinner and we’re all friends, then we’ll tell her. Daddy, please! If you love me. Do you love me Daddy? ALICE BEINEKE - It’s a lovely dress, Wednesday! ‘Yellow is the color of the warming sun. Yellow is the color of yumminess and fun. Why not show the world the love in which we all believe? Why not wear your heart for all to see, right on your sleeve?” Oh, the rhyming? You see, ‘When I’m depressed or feeling blessed, a poem will get it off my chest. They come to me, they take no time, they just pop out, and always rhyme! ALICE BEINEKE: Oh! A Spanish game, what does it mean? “Full Disclosure” and you have to tell the absolute truth? I don’t think I would be very good at that game. (“sure you would “– they pass over the chalice) Oh no no no no nooooooo (she drinks and is instantly changed) Remember how it used to be, Mal? How we would gaze at each other in the middle of dinner and couldn’t eat a thing? Remember Mal? What happened? The guy with the Grateful Dead t-shirt? Is he ever coming back? How long do I have to wait? GRANDMAMA– The kid and I had a little heart-to-heart before. I told him to use his time wisely. Look who’s talking—how much time have I got left? I’m a hundred and two, I have shingles and arthritis, and when I break wind it could start the windmills in an old dutch painting. But, I’ve still got one more round in me. Bet you 5 to 10 there are still some 90-year-old hotties interested in this grandma. Male Monologues: st GOMEZ ADDAMS: Where are we from? Funny you should ask. July 31 , 1715. The Spanish warship, Pico de Gallo, commanded by my great nautical ancestor, Captain General Redondo Ventana Laguna Don Jose Cuervo, leaves Madrid, bound for the new world. Three weeks later, he is still in Madrid, as Madrid is over four hundred miles from the nearest ocean. A stubborn man, he sets sail anyway, only to sink, six months later, off the southern coast of Florida—a hostile land, infested with mosquitoes and rattlesnakes. But enough about us! GOMEZ ADDAMS: Mr. Malcolm Beineke, I presume, and the lovely Mrs.Malcolm Beineke. (pointing his blade at Lucas) And you must be young Lucas - (looks back to Mal, then again to Lucas) Unless of course you -(Lucas)- are the father, and you -(Mal) - are the son, with a massive thyroid problem. (laughs, then) I go too far. No matter, the night, she is young. Welcome to our extremely normal home. Gomez Florencia Addams, at your service. Allow me to present my wife, la! duena,! mother of my children, el amor de mi vida... the love of my life - Morticia! UNCLE FESTER: Storm’s passed. Think I’ll get a little moon. Yoo hoo, where are you hiding? Are you playing with me, my only one? There you are! Look at her. Lovely, is she not? And so far away. Yes, in matters of love, my dears, distance is our friend. Closeness? No thank you. Quarter of a million miles away--that’s a good distance for romance. We never fight, each waning is a heartbreaking separation. Each meeting, a happy reunion. UNCLE FESTER: That's right. Little Wednesday Addams - that charming, irrepressible bundle of malice who would poison her own brother just for a ride in the ambulance - has grown up and found love. (to the ANCESTORS as they try to disappear.) So here's the deal. Gather around. I'm not letting you back into that crypt until love triumphs. So who is this Lucas fella? Is he worthy of her? Do they really love each other? What is love anyway? Does this rash look serious to you? So many questions about love. But when you think about it, is there anything more important? LUCAS BEINEKE: I work after school at the bookstore. And on weekends, I tutor kids at a charter school. And summers I work at my uncle’s grocery. On my time off, I mostly think about Wednesday and how much I love her and how we could have a wonderful life together. One day, I’ll be a writer. Or maybe a medical examiner. You get to look inside people’s bodies and they don’t mind, because they’re dead. LUCAS BEINEKE: Wait, wait! We have to talk this over for a minute. We can’t just run away and get married. You said it was important that everyone got along. I know I said it didn’t matter, but they wanna kill each other! Do you want that hanging over our heads? Do you wanna you know what I think? You don’t really want to get married. You just said that to stick it to your mother. What will we do for money? You know you’re scared too. Let’s go back in the house and make some rational decisions. Look- I – I can’t run away like this. It’s too crazy. I’m sorry. I can be impulsive! I just need to think about this first! MAL BEINEKE: OK, Addams, I tried. I thought OK, the kids like each other, let’s give it a shot. But you people are insane. You got a house where there shouldn’t be a house, a zombie for a butler, and a man who’s dating the moon. We’re simple people, Mister Addams. We’re not used to your ‘sophisticated New York lifestyle.’ So with your permission, we’re gonna go back to the realAmerica. Full disclosure. Lucas, help your mother off the table. MAL BEINEKE: This girl walks around with a crossbow? Good. Good choice son. OK, listen up. Now here’s what’s going to happen. We’re going to go back to the hotel. And you and I are going to have a little talk. (Lurch enters.) Hello. Had a little trouble finding this place.

Addams Family Values: a Campy Cult Classic

Addams Family Values: A Campy Cult Classic By: Katie Baranauskas The Addams family is quite the odd bunch. Created by Charles Addams in a 1938 comic strip, the family has received countless renditions of their misadventures, including the 1993 sequel to The Addams Family: Addams Family Values. This is a rare instance in which the sequel is better than the original. The cast is by far one of the best, including greats like Anjelica Huston as Morticia, Christina Ricci as Wednesday, and Christopher Lloyd as Fester, as well as so many others. Every actor plays to their strengths, as well as their character's strengths, to craft a wonderful mix of comedy and drama. Some characters such as Fester and Gomez Addams have extreme slapstick comedy, whereas other characters such as Wednesday and Morticia Addams have a dry humor that also makes the audience chuckle: no laugh track needed. Along with all these fantastic characters comes an equally fantastic villain in Debbie Jelinsky, played by Joan Cusack. Debbie is immediately explored as a two-faced black widow, who will do anything to get the wealth and opulence she desires. Joan Cusack did the absolute most in this performance, and she looked fabulous as well. All of this is topped with an amazing script, which produced hundreds of lines I use to this day. A whole other article could be written on the iconic quotes from this movie, but my all-time favorite has to be when Morticia tells Debbie in the most monotone voice, "All that I could forgive, but Debbie… pastels?" This movie has just the right balance of creepiness and camp, reminding me of a Disney story set in a Tim Burton-esque world, where being "weird" is the new normal and everything is tinged with a gothic filter.

ADDAMS FAMILY CONCERT VERSION Character Descriptions

ADDAMS FAMILY CONCERT VERSION Character Descriptions Addams Family Members Gomez Addams, Tenor: Gomez is an attractive man of Spanish descent, who adores his wife, Morticia. He takes great pride in his children, Wednesday & Pugsley. He is immensely proud to be an Addams. Wednesday has told her father that she is getting married, however, she has made him promise not to tell her mother until after the dinner party. Gomez and Morticia do not keep secrets from each other. He feels completely trapped having to keep his daughter happy by keeping her secret and keeping his wife happy by telling her what the secret is. Keeping them both happy is his greatest job. He must have great comedic timing, move well, and have strong vocals. Fencing skills a plus. Morticia Addams, Alto: She is beautiful and the real head of the family; the critical and moving force behind it. This role requires an easy comedic sense with a sexy, dry wit. She feels her husband, Gomez, is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. Morticia must move and sing well. Wednesday Addams, Mezzo/Sop, Strong belt: Wednesday is the goth daughter of Gomez and Morticia. She is a charming girl who has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother. Wednesday has fallen in love with a “normal” boy (Lucas) and to get married. She just wants her family to be “normal” for one night to meet Luca’s parents. She needs strong pop belt vocals and a good sense of sarcasm. Pugsley Addams, strong high vocals, Tenor (or Alto): Pugsley is a charming, funny, husky boy (or girl who can play a boy) who loves being tortured by his sister.

Light Shadows: Loose Adaptations of Gothic Literature in American TV Series o... 1 Light Shadows: Loose Adaptations of Gothic Literature in American TV Series of the 1960s and early 1970s Dennis Tredy 1 In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, in a somewhat failed attempt to wrestle some high ratings away from the network leader CBS, ABC would produce a spate of supernatural sitcoms, soap operas and investigative dramas, adapting and borrowing heavily from major works of Gothic literature of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The trend began in 1964, when ABC produced the sitcom The Addams Family (1964-66), based on works of cartoonist Charles Addams, and CBS countered with its own The Munsters (CBS, 1964-66) –both satirical inversions of the American ideal sitcom family in which various monsters and freaks from Gothic literature and classic horror films form a family of misfits that somehow thrive in middle-class, suburban America.

The Addams Family Aaaaaaahh ... The intoxicating smell of auditions ....! You are welcome to consider the information below and if interested, we invite you to audition for this exciting, challenging musical to be presented in May 2016 at the Devonport Entertainment and Convention Centre. THE ADDAMS FAMILY is a contemporary musical comedy based on the cartoons and popular TV series inspired by the creations of the legendary American cartoonist Charles Addams (1912-1998). http://www.theaddamsfamilymusical.com THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story. It’s every parent’s nightmare. Your little girl has suddenly become a young woman, and what’s worse, has fallen deliriously in love with a ‘normal’, sweet, smart young man from a respectable ‘normal’ family. Yes, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has a “normal” boyfriend, and for parents Gomez and Morticia, it’s a shocking development that turns the Addams house upside down when they are forced to host a dinner for the young man and his parents. Our production will feature a cast of 20+ zany characters from the popular TV and cartoon series – Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday and Pugsley Addams, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Lurch, some new characters Mal, Alice and Lucas Beineke, and a group of 10-12 highly engaged Addams Ancestors who help progress the adventure. Here is an extract from a review of the show: “ ... the slight plot has the comically morbid family in a quandary as a nearly-grown-up Wednesday falls in love with Lucas, a boy from the right side of the tracks. His straight-laced parents, the Beinekes, come to the decrepit Addams manse for a dinner party where secrets are revealed and the young lovebirds break up over their differences.

Wednesday Addams Is a Fictional Character Created by American Cartoonist Charles Addams in His Comic Strip the Addams Family

Wednesday Addams is a fictional character created by American cartoonist Charles Addams in his comic strip The Addams Family. In Addams' cartoons, which first appeared in The New Yorker, Wednesday and other members of the family had no names. When the characters were adapted to the 1964 television series, Charles Addams gave her the name "Wednesday", based on the well-known nursery rhyme line, "Wednesday's child is full of woe." The idea for the name was supplied by the actress and poet Joan Blake, an acquaintance of Addams. She is the sister of Pugsley Addams, and she is the only daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams. Wednesday's most notable features are her pale skin and long, dark twin braids. She seldom shows emotion and is generally bitter. Wednesday usually wears a black dress with a white collar, black stockings and black shoes. In the 1960s series, she is significantly more sweet-natured, although her favorite hobby is raising spiders; she is also a ballerina. Wednesday's favorite toy is her Marie Antoinette doll, which her brother guillotines (at her request). She is stated to be six years old in the television series' pilot episode. In one episode, she is shown to have several other headless dolls as well. She also paints pictures (including a picture of trees with human heads) and writes a poem dedicated to her favorite pet spider, Homer. Wednesday is deceptively strong; she is able to bring her father down with a judo hold. Wednesday has a close kinship with the family's giant butler Lurch.
