Unbeaten in five starts so far, Godolphin's purchase is more in the mold of EIGHT VIE TO BE QUEEN OF KEENELAND Teofilo (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Dawn Approach Racing Post This year=s group of U.S.-based 3-year-old filly turfers his own sire--who provided have taken turns beating each other all year, and back-to-back successes for nobody would be a surprise in the GI Queen Elizabeth II their trainer in 2006 and 2007--than the surprise 2008 Challenge Cup S. today at and 2011 winners Intense Focus (Giant's Causeway) Keeneland. Ken and Sarah and Parish Hall (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}). Race-hardened in his Ramsey=s Stephanie=s native Ireland, the chestnut put that experience to use Kitten (Kitten=s Joy) took when winning a talent-stacked edition of the last year=s GI Darley G2 Coventry S. at Royal Ascot June 19 and looked as Alcibiades S. over the if the subsequent break had only strengthened him in main track here in the G1 Vincent O'Brien National S. on his first try at October before annexing this trip at The Curragh Sept. 15. "Dawn Approach has Stephanie’s Kitten takes Lake Placid the GII Breeders= Cup a great temperament and showed us almost from the NYRA/Coglianese Juvenile Fillies Turf a word go," Bolger said. "His five races don't seem to month later with two of have taken anything out of him and we've had today=s foes behind her. She comes off a close score in absolutely no problems with him. Just watching him, Saratoga=s GII Lake Placid S. Aug. 19, with Centre you could see this fellow had something--he has a Court (Smart Strike) second, Somali Lemonade (Lemon terrific action. He is able to quicken up when the need Drop Kid) third and Better Lucky (Ghostzapper) fifth. arises in his races and loves his racing. He's right up AWe=ve been looking forward to this race for quite a there, ability-wise, with New Approach but he may not while,@ the always entertaining Ken Ramsey told Daily stay as well as he did." Cont. p5 Racing Form. AIf we win, I=m going to send the Queen a win picture, along with an old photo of her that I=ve been trying to get ahold of from when she was here for the first running in 1984.@ Trainer Wayne Catalano added, AThe filly has been doing just great, and I think she=ll run like we all think she=s supposed to Saturday.@ G. Watts Humphrey, Jr.=s homebred Centre Court was the neck victoress of a rough running of the GII Lake George S. at the Spa July 25, besting four of these familiar fillies. Better Lucky was second, while Samitar (GB) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}) was third, Stephanie=s Kitten was a troubled-trip fourth and Somali Lemonade was sixth. The bay took Churchill=s GIII Regret S. three back in June with Treasured Up (Medaglia d=Oro) third. Her layoff since the Lake Placid was by design, and this has been her long-term goal for a while. AAfter she won the Regret we knew she would get invited to the Queen Elizabeth,@ trainer Rusty Arnold explained. AWe were going to Saratoga and knew she would have two races before this one. It would either be one at Saratoga and one at Belmont or two at Saratoga. When she won the [Lake George], it made sense to stay there.@ Cont. p4 In This Issue Oppenheim: New Number One 60 Broad St., Suite 100 Red Bank, NJ 07701 Following the conclusion of Tattersalls’ October Book 1 Thursday, TDN (732) 747-8060 columnist Bill Oppenheim takes a look at the top-of-the-market trends of 2012. In 1861, when Japan was about to move from the feudal system into the Meiji Restoration, foreign residents living in Yokohama, predominantly British, introduced the first Western-style horse racing by establishing the Yokohama Race Club to Japan. Western style horse racing was held in foreign enclaves, and hence, unfortunately, very little is known or recorded about initial era in Japan’s modern horse racing history. At about the same time that the name of the Japanese central city was changed from Edo to Tokyo, Western-style horse racing began to be found in the major metropolitan cities across the country. In 1906, the government embarked on a policy which tacitly allowed to bet. This led to the introduction of modern horse racing featuring sales of betting tickets in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and other metropolitan cities, from which most racing operations benefited.

  • Race History Record Dividends
FWD QEII Cup (Group 1) – 2000m – Turf – Right-handed Course Race History In 1975 the British monarch Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Hong Kong for a state visit. To mark the event, on 5 May, the Hong Kong Jockey Club staged the inaugural running of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup, with a prize fund of HK$50,000. Her Majesty was in attendance at Happy Valley and presented the winning trophy to Mr. and Mrs. Barma, whose horse Nazakat had prevailed in the 1575m sand track handicap under Malaysian rider A. K. Cheam for trainer Cheung Hok-man. The race continued as a handicap for 17 years, its distance switching between 1400m, a mile, 1800m, and once at 2000m in April 1986. The race, which moved to Sha Tin in 1979, was in fact staged twice in 1986, first in April and then in October when the Queen was once again in attendance, that time to see Forever Gold win a 1600m renewal. In April 1992 the contest was raised to HKG2 level and River Verdon won that mile edition. Three years later the race was opened up to international competition, as a local G1 contest. The UAE trainer Hilal Ibrahim sent Red Bishop to carry off the then 2200m race under Mick Kinane.
