ADDICTUS Philippines, Inc.

What does ADDICTUS do ? The organisation provides and organises: ethnographic and epidemiological research on drug abuse, capacity building and training, policy and media advocacy, and, community based drug abuse prevention.

Where ? The project will be implemented in one in City and one in Dagupan City.

The activities of ADDICTUS under the Global Initiative Addictus will work in two barangays to build on the psychosocial and survival skills of children, to increase self-esteem and the capacity to make healthy life decisions. Project activities will include community youth development sessions and youth selected activities including art, singing, writing and photography. Youth will have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents through forums such as art exhibits and concerts.

Bidlisiw Foundation, Inc.

What does the Foundation do ? The organisation provides and organises capacity building, community mobilisation, a resource centre, advocacy and research on HIV/AIDS. It also provides counselling and sexually transmitted infections case management.

Where ? The project will be implemented in four Barangays in Cebu City.

The activities of the Foundation under the Global Initiative The project will train a core group of Young People Advocates (YPA’s) in topics such as substance abuse, interpersonal communication skills, and peer-counselling skills. Project activities resulting from the training will be outreach and street education activities. The YPA’s will also play an active role in the design and implementation of life skills training, sport festivals, employment seeking tours, and theatre activities. Childhope Asia Philippines

What does Childhope do ? The organisation provides and organises: street-based education and shelter for street-children and community-based projects for children. It has also experience in undertaking regional training, advocacy and networking.

Where ? The project will be implemented in two Barangays in Metro , Paco and Pandacan.

The activities of Childhope under the Global Initiative Youth will be trained to become peer trainers and become actively involved in mobilisation of the community through networking, training and outreach. Parent and community members will also be involved in ongoing advocacy sessions.

Foundation for Adolescent Development, Inc. (FAD)

What does FAD do ? The organisation provides and organises: adolescent and reproductive health services, counselling, networking, parents’ education, and, livelihood skills training.

Where ? The project will be implemented in one Barangay in , Sta. Ana.

The activities of FAD under the Global Initiative FAD will build a team of youth peer educators who will coordinate with schools for the development of street and theatre performances. The peer educators will also actively build links with other youth serving organisations to conduct their own campaigns. As a second approach FAD will hold community education and prevention sessions with parents.

Foundation for Drug Information and Communication (FDIC)

What does FDIC do ? The organisation provides and organises the following activities in the field of drug abuse: research, publication, capacity building and training, media advocacy, counselling, youth development, and IEC materials.

Where ? The project will be implemented in one Barangay in , Sitio.

The activities of FDIC under the Global Initiative Youth will be recruited from within the community to participate in training and then become actively involved in community mobilisation through organised monthly activities, conducting further training, orientation programs, and the development of livelihood programs.

Higala Association, Inc.

Where does Higala work ? The project will be implemented in three Barangays in Davao City.

The activities of Higala under the Global Initiative In response to the growing influence of street gangs in the three Barangays, youth groups will meet regularly to plan and implement life skills training, theatre arts training for the performance of street plays, and youth camps on substance abuse. A second project approach will be parents education through monthly parenting skills sessions.

Kahayag

Where does Kahayag work ? The project will be implemented in two Barangays of Toril District, Davao City.

The activities of Kahayag under the Global Initiative Establishment of youth and children’s forums, training of trainers in primary prevention, leadership and peer counselling skills and alternative activities selected by youth.

Kaugmaon Centre for Children’s Concerns Foundation, Inc.

Where does Kaugmaon work ? The project will be implemented in three Barangays in Davao City: Sasa, Tibungco, and Bunawan.

The activities of Kaugmaon under the Global Initiative Project activities will include youth life skills training and peer education. A youth centre will be established to provide interesting and relevant recreational activities for youth at risk. A ‘Parents Core Group’ will be established and participate in study sessions and a ‘Quality Parenting Workshop’.

Kauswagan Community Development and Social Development CCentreentre

What does Kauswagan do ? The organisation provides and organises capacity building, advocacy, networking, and a resource centre on integrated health care.

Where ? The project will be implemented in three Barangays in Cebu City.

The activities of Kauswagan under the Global Initiative Kauswagan’s project activities include the training of peer educators through youth camps that will seek to promote interpersonal and communication skills as well as positive values amongst youth. Other project activities will include vocational skills training in cooperation with government vocational institutions, life skills training, contests, sport festivals, art, slogans, and rap songs. Topic specific community councils will also be established in order to sustain activities at a community level.

Kapatiran Komunidad People’s Coalition (KKPC)

What does KKPC do ? The organisation provides and organises: day care centre, an early childhood education program, drug and HIV/AIDS awareness seminars; primary health care; community-based breast cancer prevention; community waste management and environment programs; counselling; public campaigns; livelihood, sports and cultural activities; and, research and community organising.

Where ? The project will be implemented in one Barangay in Quezon City, Tatalon.

The activities of KKPC under the Global Initiative The activities of the KKCP will include training of youth leaders to identify and organise target groups for the implementation of project activities. Activities will include sports and recreational activities, income and employment generating activities, vocational skills training, and community activities such as ‘Walk for a Cause’, concerts, and family based competitions.

METSA Foundation, Inc.

Where does METSA work ? The project will be implemented in four Barangays in Tugbok District, Davao City.

The activities of METSA under the Global Initiative The project will provide peer education training for youth, and parenting workshops. Alternative activities, selected by participating youth, will include the formation of clubs, theatre, singing or sport activities. Community interaction on the topic of substance abuse will be encouraged through small group processing sessions following slide and puppet shows.

Person’s Enrichment Through Encounter and Response (PEER)

Where does PEER work ? The project will be implemented in two Barangays in Metro Manila, Barangay 510 and AnakBayan.

The activities of PEER under the Global Initiative PEER activities will include training youth as peer counsellors and trainers to take an active role in community mobilisation. The project will also include sports activities, job skills training, competitions, theatre arts training, and the establishment of a community library or reading centre.

Red CrossCross Youth Department

Where the Red Cross Youth Department work ? The project will be implemented in four Barangays in Metro Manila: Bagong Bario, Quiapo, Addition Hills and Bambang. The activities of the Red Cross Youth Department under the Global Initiative Using existing Red Cross infrastructure and ideals RCYD will implement a broad range of activities. In addition to youth leadership and peer counselling training, activities will include sports activities, poster making contests, and summer camps. Other activities for youth skills development include home nursing, disaster management and first aid training.
