Commencement day is a very special time, indeed. It is the culmin ation of the University’s efforts to provide a quality experience to its students—one that is learner centered, discovery driven and globally engaged. Today we acknowledge that these efforts were successful, and the results are well- educated, capable individuals who are prepared for any challenge the future may have in store for them. As students, those who are graduating today have been a source of great pride for the University. As alumni, I know these graduates will continue to make WMU proud. But today is more than a time to honor our graduates. We must also recognize all the parents, friends, family members and others whose encouragement and guidance have made this day possible for our students. The pathway toward a degree is long and challenging, and I know that our graduates could not have reached their destinations without your support. Please join me, too, in extending thanks to our faculty and staff for creating and fostering an environment of student success. As we celebrate this most joyous occasion, I hope that you will enjoy your time on Western Michigan University’s campus. Please come back and visit us soon. Most sincerely, John M.
