ICON3 complete album lyrics Twice The Man I Was Strolling down Atlantic Avenue I'm looking for adventure, something new And there is not a single thing I wouldn't do I'm looking at the way it used to be Things are clear that I could never see And the world is now the way it was meant to be And I'm Twice The Man I Was I'm so tired of drivin' down a one way street I live on the island where three rivers meet I hated myself for the way I was But now I can forgive myself because I'm Twice The Man I Was Oh so good to be back home again And I'm so relieved I missed the bitter end Cos the gratitude on which my life depends Says I'm Twice The Man I Was Well I bathed in the fountain of eternal youth Prayed on the mountain where Jesus soothed Chastised the Devil where the prophets stood One foot in Eden, one in Hollywood I loved all the women that I never should You know it's all because I'm Twice The Man I Was Simple situations used to baffle me Blind to the colours that I couldn't see I stared in the face of death a thousand times Slid down the razor blade of public life I was broken and beaten, now I'm energized I'm Twice The Man I Was Destiny Mama, I was just a kid I would always take the blame, for things I never did Later on, and the world was in my hands When I threw it all away, I knew that you'd understand Someday I will see When final waves wash over me That there is only One who can command me I know myself, and I know where I belong I don't believe in looking back, for that's all dead and gone For now, in the present I reside I free my soul of everything, I have nothing to hide Someday, I will see When the final waves crash over me That I am just a teardrop in the ocean My destiny...dictates to me I know, it's not up to me, whatever will be, will be Our destiny..

PSCI 11 The Gospel According to U2 Winter Study 2008 Professor Darel E. Paul PSCI 11 Stetson g19 Griffin 6 597-2327 TWR 10am-noon [email protected] Office Hrs.: Mondays 2:00pm - 4:00pm and by appointment Course Description It has been said that U2 is the "world's greatest rock band" – but is it also (unknown to most) the world's greatest – and most unusual – Christian rock band? This course explores the theology, spirituality and politics of U2 expressed through the group's songs, stage performances and human right campaigns. We will travel from the band's origins in the Shalom Christian Fellowship in Dublin to their overtly Christian second album October (1981); the culmination of their superstardom in Joshua Tree (1987); through their techno and ultra-ironic 1990s marked by Zoo-TV, PopMart and Bono's "mock the devil" phase as Mr. MacPhisto; and a return to their roots in All That You Can't Leave Behind (2000) and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (2004). Along the way, we will listen to a lot of U2, watch some videos and tour footage – but it's not all fun and games. We will also read serious theological and philosophical tracts on U2 lyrics and explore the band's complicated interweaving of faith, sexuality, grace, fame, doubt, justice, and the meaning of America in a way which makes them a surprisingly popular and poignant spiritual voice in our superficial and materialistic age. We will also delve into the group's human rights and social justice work, from Band Aid in the ‘80s to (Product)RED today, and in particular explore Bono's Christian social justice moorings.

  • Difficulties in English-Polish Translation of U2 Lyrics
PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION AND TRANSLATION STUDIES 2008 135 DIFFICULTIES IN ENGLISH-POLISH TRANSLATION OF U2 LYRICS Mariusz WOLANSKI Polonia University in Cz~stochowa U2 lyrics present different aspects of human life; of which love comes to the foreground. " One" is the song that has been played by U2 at every concert for 15 years, deeply moving crowds of spectators. There are two meanings of the song. The first one can be interpreted as a conversation between the young man, who is dying of AIDS, and his father. Father does not accept his son's lifestyle and is not able to forgive him. This interpretation illustrates the need to put a blame on somebody else. The son has a chance to vent his frustration and fury caused by his father's attitude. Despite deep-rooted prejudices, his father tries to come to terms with him. In this context the song" One" can be considered as discussion about intolerance to AIDS victims and sexual minorities. The key point is that although we are not the same, we live in the same world. Thus, we have to help each other: One love, one blood, one life With each other, Sisters, Brothers One life, but we're not the same We got to carry each other One ... The second meaning of the song is more universal. It can be interpreted as a song about unhappy love. Here, the man addresses the woman. There was a time when a strong feeling of love joined them together. Nowadays, they cannot understand each other: Well it's too late, tonight To drag the past out into the light Where love used to rule, there remained bitterness and emptiness: You gave me nothing Now it's alii got The feeling disappeared and the couple cannot forget the mistakes committed in the past: Will it make it easier on you Now you got someone to blame Reading the Poiish translation of the song" One ", I have noticed that the second meaning is more significant and, at the same time, universal.

  • U2's Creative Process
U2’S CREATIVE PROCESS: SKETCHING IN SOUND K. Paul Harris A dissertation submitted to the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Music Chapel Hill 2006 Approved by : Advisor: John Covach Reader: Allen Anderson Reader: David Garcia Reader: Jocelyn Neal Reader: Severine Neff © 2006 K. Paul Harris ALL RIGHTS RES ERVED ii ABSTRACT K. PAUL HARRIS: U2’s Creative Process: Sketching in Sound (Under the direction of John Covach) The music of Irish rock band, U2, evinces a compositional process developed by musicians of exceptional inexperience who underwent an equally exceptional insular development, to become one of the most critically acclaimed rock bands of all time. This dissertation uses a variety of resources —principally demos of mature songs from U2’s seventh studio album, Achtung Baby (1991), recordings of earl y performances surrounding the recording of their debut album, Boy (1980), and video documentary sources chronicling the recording of songs from The Unforgettable Fire (1984) and The Joshua Tree (1987) —as a comparative basis for an assessment of U2’s signa ture musical style, their aesthetic of song, and their use of the recording studio in the realization and development of that aesthetic. U2 arose from the post -punk milieu of the late 1970s, that took its lead from the slightly older punks, (the Sex Pisto ls and t he Clash ), to forge a style distinct from mainstream pop. The members of U2 had widely divergent musical tastes and abilities (some bordering on no ability at all) which compelled them to begin writing their own music from the outset, typically th rough interminable rehearsal —a form of live sketching.

  • The Creative Life of Bono: Implications for Developing Talents and Gifts.Pdf
Danielian, J. (2007). Sometimes melodies are not songs, they are ideas: The creative life of Bono and implications for talent development. Gifted Education International, 23(1), 102-113. With permission from Belle Wallace, Editor, Gifted Education International. Sometimes Melodies Are Not Songs, They’re Ideas The Creative Life of Bono: Implications for Developing Talents and Gifts Jeffrey S. Danielian Jr. [email protected] Introduction Throughout the years, many scholars have attempted to define creativity and its manifestations. The goal of this article is not to extend the definition, but rather to identify aspects of creativity and relate them to the life of Bono, a rock star and social activist. Bono is not only recognized as a musically talented artist, but has proven to be ceaselessly creative in his efforts to aid humanity. By using the skills he acquired as a songwriter, singer, and band member, he changed the ideological perspectives of world leaders, with the goal of ending poverty and health crises in third world countries. The world is ever changing, and with the advent of new media and technology, the people of this earth are "closer" than ever; the rich and poor, strong and weak, living and dying. The events of the world invade our televisions, our computer screens, and the pages of our newspapers. By attempting to understand Bono's motivations and altruistic nature, teachers and students may be able to harness the principles he models for us. Not only those who seek fame, but those who seek change should be models for young people. Operation Houndstooth, (Renzulli, 2002) a new and emerging theory about the situations necessary for developing co-cognitive traits in our students, may provide the link we need to help ensure that the leaders of tomorrow, in our classrooms today, will use their talents to develop social capital, realize their potential, and possibly change the world.
