After explaining about latitude, longitude, degrees and minutes, the teacher asked, “Suppose I asked you to meet me for lunch at 23 degrees, 4 minutes north latitude and 45 degrees, 15 minutes east longitude?” After a confused silence, a voice volunteered, “I guess you’d be eating alone.” Answer: In Colossians 4:6, Paul tells us that our speech should be tempered with grace and seasoned with salt. Let’s all remember this. Page 2 THE ZION TRUMPET The Seekers of Truth “”After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship him.’” Matthew 2:1-2 I am glad that the wise men are included in the story of Jesus’ birth. They legitimize for all ages those souls who seek for the truth. Those few who are looking for truth are actually seek- ing the True One. There is something within each heart that cries out for the key to all reality. One day, a great musician sat down at the organ, weary and ill at ease. His fingers wandered idly over the keys, and as he played, he hit a chord, a chord so wonderful that for him all of the perplexity of life was bound together and understood in one complete moment. He later said, “I have spent the rest of my life trying to find that chord again!” The human heart longs for the key, and somehow or other we know that the key cannot be found in ourselves. Christ must be the center. He is the Truth. When hungry hearts come to Jesus, they will not simply find truth, they will find the Truth for all existence. He is the one chord that makes sense out of all the music of reality. He brings all the notes together and causes life to make sense and even to be beautiful. When the wise men found the One for whom they sought, they worshipped Him, falling on their knees and presenting Him with gifts. The response of all seekers of truth who find Him will be worship and adoration. Page 4 THE ZION TRUMPET That First Day of Christmas There were no Christmas stockings hung on that first Christmas day. Just a lonely manger and a lowly bed of hay. There was no jovial Santa Claus with toys and gifts galore. But shepherds came from out of fields to worship and adore. There was no Christmas tree that day bedecked with tinsel bright, But in the East there was a star that dazzled with its light. There was no Christmas carolers to serenade with song, But hosts of angels gathered ‘round to watch the whole night long. No fast last-minute shopping and no Christmas cards to send, But hope was born in one small Child for new life without end! “and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us…” John 1:14 KJV -Connie Hinnen Cook Thank you to the following individuals who contributed to our Church sign and building since our November printing of the Newslet- ter.. This song had its origins as a teaching tool to instruct young people in the mean- ing and content of the Christian faith. From 1558 to 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not able to practice their faith openly so they had to find other ways to pass on their beliefs. This song is one example of how they did it, it is in a sense an allegory. Each of the items in the song represents something of reli- gious significance. The hidden meaning of each gift was designed to help young Christians learn their faith. “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…” The “true love” rep- resents God and the “me” is the Christian (you). “partridge in a pear tree” refers to Jesus Christ who died on a tree as a gift from God. “two turtle doves” were the Old and New Testaments “three French hens” were Faith, Hope and Love—the three gifts of the Spirit that abide (1 Corinthians 13). “four calling birds” refers to the Four Gospels which sing the song of salvation through Jesus Christ. “five golden rings” refers to the first Five Books of the Old Testa- ment, the “Pentateuch” (also called the “Book of Moses”). “six geese a-laying” were the six days of creation.
