I, however, will be staying right here in the PRD. Now, that’s not because I don’t want to leave, but rather, starting from early June, flights become much more expensive. And let’s face it: Russia’s Far East is nicer in November anyway. All jokes aside, if you, like myself, are going to be kickin’ around the Greater Bay Area this month and are looking to keep yourself occupied, this magazine is going to be your best friend. Inside, we have a rundown of the city’s hottest rooftop patios, an array of new F&B spots to check out and a fascinating cover story on Chinese opera. (And, if you think opera is all singing and boredom, you clearly haven’t seen it China-style). Additionally, in our City section, we have a feast for your eyes: A selection of amazing images taken around China by Chinese-American photographer Mark Leong, personally selected by the photo-snapper himself. I’m going to keep this month’s note short and sweet, but will wrap it up by welcoming our new Shenzhen editor, Phoebe Kut, to the team. We look forward to working with you and know that all of our readers are excited to get your take on life in South China! CULTURE AND SPORT Culture and Sport Eastern and western cultures have co-existed in Macao for over 400 years. A wide variety of cultural traditions, languages, values, religious beliefs, and customs have all existed side by side and influenced one another. Out of this melting pot, a regional culture unique to Macao has gradually developed into its present richness. Macao’s culture is thus a diverse mixture, with traditional Chinese culture as its heart, and it has assimilated Western, particularly Portuguese, cultural influences in perfect harmony. Following its policy of promoting Chinese culture while preserving the unique pluralistic cultural heritage of Macao, the Government has hosted various cultural and artistic activities invited art troupes from mainland China and overseas, as well as Macao, to perform. These have created opportunities for audiences to learn more about the history, society, and culture of different regions, as well as enhancing cultural exchange and the quality of cultural life of Macao’s residents. Cultural Affairs Bureau The Cultural Affairs Bureau is a Government department that sets out the Government’s key objectives in cultural matters. The bureau is responsible for protecting cultural heritage, giving guidance on aesthetic appreciation, supporting community organisations, nurturing talent in arts and culture, developing local cultural industries, as well as organising cultural entertainment programmes, such as concerts, exhibitions, seminars, music classes, dance, drama courses, Macao International Parade, Macao International Music Festival, Macao Arts Festival, Macao City Fringe Festival, China Cultural Heritage Day, Macao Youth Music Competition and Macao Annual Visual Arts Exhibition. It also provides subsidies for different cultural and art programmes as well as scholarships to support the publication of research and advanced studies about arts.

Mia, a teenager who was working on reception that night, is the only witness. For fear of losing her job, she says nothing. Meanwhile, 12-year-old Wen, one of the victims, finds that her troubles have only just begun. Trapped in a world that offers them no safety, Mia and Wen will have to find their own way out. This is a story about women. About the society that shapes our perceptions and values. About the choices that are allowed us and the courage to make different ones. DIRECTOR’S About the interchangeable roles of the victim and the bystander. About truth and justice. And above all, about love. STATEMENT DIRECTOR’S INTENTION NOTE Once during a scouting trip, I saw a young girl, 8 or 9 years old, playing alone on a long flight of steps against a hilltop. It was approaching dusk and the area was deserted. The girl was happy to see us and volunteered to be our model as we shot videos of the area. She told me that her parents, migrant workers from a faraway province, were still at work; that her home was in a basement at the bottom of the hill; that she had no friends.

Received: 11 October 2019; Accepted: 23 December 2019; Published: 25 December 2019 Abstract: Traffic congestion, especially during peak hours, has become a challenge for transportation systems in many metropolitan areas, and such congestion causes delays and negative effects for passengers. Many studies have examined the prediction of congestion; however, these studies focus mainly on road traffic, and subway transit, which is the main form of transportation in densely populated cities, such as Tokyo, Paris, and Beijing and Shenzhen in China, has seldom been examined. This study takes Shenzhen as a case study for predicting congestion in a subway system during peak hours and proposes a hybrid method that combines a static traffic assignment model with an agent-based dynamic traffic simulation model to estimate recurrent congestion in this subway system.
