Ardrossan Academy Class Chat for week ending 15/12/17

Head Teacher I would like to thank all staff, pupils and parents for the very warm welcome I have received into the Academy community. I have been teaching for 18 years and bring with me experience of working in Glasgow City Council as a Depute Head Teacher and more recently as a Depute Head Teacher in Academy for the past 4 years. The values of Ardrossan Academy are Ambition, Respect and Excellence and I believe that these underpin all of the work that we do to support our young people. This term I want to get to know the pupils, staff and school community which will allow me to set out our improvement agenda and identify priorities for the coming session. For our pupils to make excellent progress I strongly believe that partnership with parents is key and I hope you will support our high expectations in all areas, especially in effort, behaviour, uniform standards, attendance and timekeeping. I look forward to working with staff, pupils are parents to support all of our young people to be the best they can be. Mrs Anne Anderson Charities Committee Christmas Jumper Day will take place on Fri 15th December to raise funds for Save The Children. Pupils and staff are invited to wear a Christmas Jumper (alongside school uniform for pupils) in return for a donation. There will also be a raffle for pupils, and a raffle for staff. Developing a Young Workforce (DYW) As part of the Maritime Illumination Festival, Booth Welsh decided to have a model lighthouse as the centrepiece. They submitted a design brief to Ardrossan Academy Technical department and left us to turn it into a reality. With the help of Freya Barclay and Ava McGroarty S2, we produced a great model which satisfied the brief. The girls learned skills in using a range of wood, metal and plastics. They also used computer aided design and manufacture to produce very accurate components which really brought the project to life. We were proud to be part of the festival and really enjoyed working with Booth Welsh. We felt that it helped promote understanding of STEM subjects and also allowed us to give a little back to the company in appreciation for their continued support for the school.
