Starring Renee Sellweger as Bridget Jones, as Mark Darcy and Hugh Grant as Daniel Cliver. The sequel to Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), the film was released in the United Kingdom on November 12, 2004, and in the United States a week later, on November 19, 2004, generally received negative reviews from film critics. Despite this, the film received box office success, the box office was more than 260 million dollars worldwide. He received a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. Plot Bridget Jones (Renee Sellweger) is thrilled with her new relationship with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). However, Bridget's confidence is shattered when she meets Mark's assistant, the beautiful, slender, savvy Rebecca Gillis (Jacinda Barrett). On her work on the TV show Sit-Up Britain, Bridget crosses paths with her ex, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), and offered a position alongside Cleaver in the new travel series. Bridget initially refuses, declaring Daniel a false, sexist, disgusting example of humanity, but eventually signs up despite the fears of his friends. Bridget is thrilled when Mark invites her to his Law Council Dinner, believing he will offer afterwards. However, a series of fashion/cosmetic failures make the evening a debacle, culminating in a team trivia quiz: Bridget makes a critical mistake when asked about Madonna, which Rebecca Gillis wins, leaving Bridget carefully deflated. After dinner, Mark and Bridget argue, and she goes to huff. Mark goes to Bridget's apartment, apologizes tells her he loves her for the first time. Later that night, Mark invites Bridget Bridget ski holidays in Lech, Austria. On the slopes, she learns Rebecca has recommended a place to stay, and that she is there, as well as with several other colleagues. Bridget has been scare pregnancy since her period is late, but after a dispute over the upbringing and education of her unborn children, the pregnancy test turns negative. Back home, Bridget and Mark attend lunch with their parents, where Bridget suffered from Mark's dismissal from their alleged marriage. Bridget eavesdrops on Rebecca's suspicious message on Mark's return car and dissects it with her friends, who advise her to confront him; Bridget does, Mark refuses to honor the question with an answer, and Bridget breaks up with him. She travels to Thailand with her girlfriend, Shazza (Sally Phillips) and Daniel Cleverer film The Smooth Guide. Bridget and Daniel visit several exotic places and flirtatiously reunite, but Bridget's trust in Daniel is again demolished by the arrival of the prostitute he ordered, and she realizes that he has not changed his boorish way. Shazza has a toss with a much younger Jed (Paul Nichols) who gives her an ivory tusk as a gift to take back to the UK, which ends up in Bridget's bag. When security dogs at the airport discover a large cache of cocaine inside the tusk, Bridget is arrested and sent to a Thai prison and locked in a cell with nearly 50 other Thai female prisoners. Feeling low and frightened, but happy with the friendliness of the prisoners, Bridget shares advice about relationships with other prisoners and teaches them to sing and dance to Madonna's Like a Virgin. Mark arrives to tell Bridget that her release has been put in motion. Confirming Jed as a true criminal and that Bridget spent the night with Daniel Cliver, he states that his sex life is not of interest to him; Bridget does not correct his presumption, and he leaves, leaving Bridget sure that he no longer loves her. Back in Britain, Mark confronts Daniel for abandoning Bridget in Thailand, and they fight outside an art gallery in Kensington Gardens. Daniel swears to Bridget forever and sarcastically offers Mark: Why don't you just marry her? Bridget arrives at Heathrow Airport as an international human rights celebrity. She is greeted by her parents, who were busy planning the vow renewal ceremony. At home, Bridget is surprised by his friends, who show that Mark personally tracked down drug dealer Jed, secured his custody and extradition and forced to admit the innocence of Bridget. Hoping that Mark still loves her, Bridget immediately runs to her house. She finds Rebecca there and assumes that she is romantically related to Mark, but Rebecca reveals that she is actually in love with Bridget and kisses her; though flattered, Bridget politely turns her down. Bridget confronts Mark in his wards and asks to give her another chance. Mark Mark Bridget, and she accepts. The film ends with Bridget's parents renewing their vows, and Bridget catches a bouquet. The shooting took place in Southwark and Primrose Hill. Ski scenes took place in Lech (Vorarlberg), in western Austria. During the scene of the fight between Daniel and Mark in the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens (actually filmed in the Italian Gardens near Lancaster Gate), it was for the most part not choreographed, instead the actors were simply asked to fight each other as best they could. At one point in the film (where Bridget and Shazzer are at Thailand's airport), Bridget indulges in a fantasy Mark emerges from the water in a wet white shirt, just as Colin Firth did in the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. The poem that Daniel quotes while passing Ko Panyi is the story of Phra Aphai Mani Pontorne Fu. One of the most significant differences between the novel and the film is that the film makes no mention of Bridget's fascination with the BBC's version of Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth starred in this production.) (quoted) Sandra Gregory stated that the scenes involving the Thai prison probably got inspired by her incident, as Helen Fielding knew the neighbors next door to her parents and presumably would speak to them. Although the film received mostly negative reviews from film critics, it was recognized by The Evening Standard Readers' Film in 2004, was shortlisted for the Orange Movie of the Year award in 2005, and Bridget's second interpretation received another golden Globe nomination and the People's Choice Award for Favorite Leading Lady of 2005. The film has a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 157 critics, with consensus stating: The Edge of Mind is a predictable continuation of Bridget Jones's story, too much and stupidity. Bridget Jones's Box Office: The Edge of Reason opened in the U.S. in a limited edition on November 12, 2004, and grossed $8,684,055 at the #5 at the box office; A week later, the film received a wide release, again hitting #5 at the box office, this time with $10,044,890. By the end of its theatrical run, it had grossed $40,226,215 domestically and $222,294,509 internationally, totaling $262,520,724 worldwide. Sequel Home Article: Bridget Jones's Baby In July 2009, the BBC reported that the third film was in the early stages of production. On March 1, 2011, it was reported that Renee Sellweger and Colin Firth had expressed interest in repeating their roles. On August 11, 2011, it was announced that the third film was Green Universal Pictures, Miramax and Working Title. Colin Firth spoke to The Chicago Sun Times in April 2013. Unfortunately, it can be a bit of a long wait, he said. I wouldn't say he's completely dead in the water, but as it happens, you can see the story of Bridget Jones's granddaughter talking by the time we get there. In an interview in October 2014, Hugh Grant mentioned the existing script for the sequel, but also expressed his dislike for him and that he would not star in the third film. Filming officially began on October 2, 2015. The film opened on September 16, 2016. Home Media Movie was released on DVD in 2004 with various bonus features.
