Stark County Health Department 1 Nursing Services Dress Code STARK COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT NURSING SERVICES DRESS CODE I. WOMEN 1. Neat, clean, and pressed clothing. 2. Pants that are at least 2 inches below knee length will be permitted. This excludes tight fitting pants, spandex, leather, terry cloth, work out material and metallic clothing. No denim pants, even ones that appear denim but are a softer material, except for on Fridays. 3. Pullover sweaters, knit shirts, cardigan sweaters are permitted. No sweatshirts are permitted. No midriff or see through tops- no abdomen exposed. Necklines must be moderate- no visible cleavage. 4. Skirts, dresses, and jumpers are permitted. The hemline on skirts is to be no shorter than 2 inches above mid knee, and slits must be no more than 2 inches above mid knee. 5. Denim skirts, dresses, jumpers, shirts, and jackets are always permitted. 6. Sleeveless shell tops and sleeveless dresses allowed-straps must be two inches or wider. No spaghetti straps. Tank tops and tee shirts (any clothing that has words, pictures, or logos that are considered unprofessional) are not permitted. No midriff tops - no abdomen or back exposed. See-thru tops are permitted as long as a dress code approved sleeveless top is worn underneath. Necklines must be moderate - no visible cleavage. 7. Scrubs are permitted for students, clinics, call day and school nursing clinic services. 8. All staff working in a clinic (lab, call room, clinic) must wear closed toe shoes or tennis shoes with socks or hose and appropriate clinic attire. Scrubs permitted for students, clinics, call day and school nursing services. 9. Sandals, open toe shoes, or heels may be worn without hose or socks. Flip flops that go between the toes that are made of rubber or plastic are not permissible. Sandals that go between your toes or are leather are permissible. Revised 08-2013 Stark County Health Department 2 Nursing Services Dress Code II. MEN 1. Neat, clean, and pressed clothing. 2. Polo, casual shirts with full or half sleeves, and dress shirt and dress slacks or Dockers are permitted. Button down denim shirts are acceptable with Stark County Health Department logo on it. 3. Pullovers, cardigan sweaters are permitted. 4. Shirts must be tucked in when style dictates. 5. Scrubs are permitted for clinics and “call day” duty. 6. Necklines must be moderate-no visible chest hair. III. ALL 1. Photo ID provided by SCHD must be worn at all times by staff and students must wear ID provided to them by their Institute of Higher Learning. 2. Jewelry is to be kept to a minimum and within safety guidelines for the tasks being performed. 3. Perfume and cologne should be used sparingly. 4. Finger nails neat, clean, trimmed. 5. Neat, hole-free jeans are permitted on Friday. No shorts or sweat attire permitted. 6. Clean tennis/walking shoes are permitted. 7. All staff must remember to dress appropriate for the clientele that you are servicing within the above dress code. 8. Hair must be neat and clean. Extreme trends such as dreadlocks, Mohawks, and long spiked hair is not acceptable. Hair colors must be of natural tones. Non- natural colors such as pink, green, blue, purple etc. are not acceptable. 9. No visible tattoos are permitted. 10. Ear piercing is allowed with no more than 3 piercings per ear; no other visible piercings are permitted, including tongue, nose, eye-brow, gauges etc. 11. Certain circumstances may warrant exceptions in the dress code, but must have Revised 08-2013 Stark County Health Department 3 Nursing Services Dress Code prior approval from Division Director. Reminder- If you have meetings, home visits, off site clinics or a seminar on Fridays, appropriate dress must be followed which means no denim pants/jeans. 1st offense you will be notified by management and sent home to change Next occurrence progressive discipline ***Please be reminded that if you are found to be out of dress code that you will be sent home to change. Due to the fact that schedules can change without advanced notice, please be reminded that an additional pair of shoes MUST be kept in your car or at your desk, along with an extra pair of pants in case you are found to be looking less than professional, or you have a sudden schedule change.
