Further details are available at www.rse.org.uk/1061_EnlighteningtheConstitutionalDebate.html and coming events will be detailed in the Events section of this Bulletin.

The final discussion this Session will take place on Tuesday 5 March 2013, when Forrester Cockburn FRSE will speak on The Minds of our Children.

Fellows Deceased It is with much regret that we report the deaths of Professor Padma Kant Shukla CorrFRSE; Professor (John) Barry Dawson; Professor Paul Gordon Jarvis FRS; and the Rt Hon Bruce Millan HonFRSE. Recent requests for help with obituaries have resulted in several offers and submissions, and for this we are grateful. However, there are still gaps and we would appreciate any suggestions regarding obituary writers for those Fellows for whom we have not managed to commission a writer or source an obituary. Please contact: [email protected]. A list showing the current state is available online at: www.royalsoced.org.uk/cms/files/fellows/lists/deaths.pdf

Launch of Digital Inquiry On Monday 11 February, the RSE launched its Inquiry into Spreading the Benefit of Digital Participation in Scotland. The Inquiry Committee, co-chaired by Professor Mike Fourman and Professor Alan Alexander, plan to report by the end of the year. They will be consulting widely with many organisations and individuals. Progress of the Inquiry can be followed at: engagingdigitalscotland.wordpress.com/

Young Academy of Scotland News The Young Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of 50 new members, to be welcomed at an Induction Ceremony at the RSE on Monday 29 April 2013. This second round of recruitment attracted 194 talented and qualified applicants. Applications were reviewed by RSE Fellows, and on 7 February the RSE Scotland SCIO Trustees, comprising Young Academy members and RSE Fellows, met to select the final list. Because the number of places available was limited to 50, and the cohort had to represent a balance across all disciplines, the Young Academy appreciates that many excellent applicants have not been successful in this round.

Young Academy Latest Activities The Young Academy is a partner in a new photographic competition open to scholars across Europe. Working with the Young Academies of Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Russia, the participating academies are seeking images that explain what makes research fascinating. There will be an exhibition touring Europe later this year. For more information visit: imagesoffascination.net/
