First ever Match v Bunny CC on Tuesday 13 June 1815. KCC 24 & 81 plus 3 byes = 108 runs Report from Nottingham Review newspaper Bunny 59 & 36 plus 3 byes = 98 runs published 23 June 1815. Landmarks of Keyworth CC

Local matches were diligently reported during the Victorian period and this is an example taken from the Nottingham Daily Express issue published on 7 July 1876.

A home match for Keyworth CC playing against local rivals Wysall CC at the Bunny Lane ground on 1 July 1876.

KCC won the game by an innings and 49 runs.

The 31 year old John Pike was then at the peak of his long career, having been the first KCC player to be picked for Notts CCC Colts in 1871. His match figures read 16.4 overs, 8 maidens, 10 for 17 runs whilst at the other end Isaac Simpson bowled 16 overs, 8 maidens, 8 wickets for 28 runs.

In these days the batsmen had a difficult time on the bowler friendly wickets ! Landmarks of Keyworth CC

KEYWORTH the first SOUTH NOTTS CHAMPIONS, in 1922 The Nottingham Daily Guardian reported that a SOUTH NOTTS LEAGUE was competed for in 1922. Sadly the league ran into financial and organisational problems, was not completed and not repeated in the 1923 season. However the last league table published on 21st August 1922 shows that Keyworth completed their games and their points total could not have been overtaken by any of the other clubs. In fact, they won with an unbeaten record, the only match they failed to win was against closest rivals Cotgrave CC when the match was abandoned due to rain. Prominent players in the team were the brothers Thomas and Jack Armstrong, Harry Bolton, Ernest Davill, all bowlers who were more than useful with the bat and Edgar Pike an opening bat and keeper. Davill had inherited the farm where the team played their home matches on Bunny Lane in 1920 following the death of his father William. Jack Armstrong had just completed his last season as a wing half for Nottingham Forest FC having signed for them back in 1905 and making a then record 461 appearances, many of them as captain. Thomas Armstrong and Bolton were regularly selected to play for Notts Colts and Notts Club & Ground selections, made up of the best amateur players in the County and Pike, the great grandfather of current player Stuart Meek had been playing for the club since 1899. Cricket was played on a field at Greenhay’s Mrs Ethel Brewitt who lived in a cottage Farm from 1870 until the move to the near Davill’s (Greenhay’s Farm) on Bunny Rectory Field in 1939.
