Sevgili öğrencimiz, öncelikle Bilkent Üniversitesi ailesine katılışınız dolayısıyla sizi kutluyor ve burada geçireceğiniz dönemin üstün başarılarla dolu olmasını diliyoruz. Elinizde tuttuğunuz bu kitapçıkta, önümüzdeki birkaç yılı geçireceğiniz yeni ortama uyum sağlamanıza destek olacak Üniversite Hayatına Giriş dersiyle ilgili bilgileri ve bu kapsamda katılmanız beklenen etkinliklerin program ve içeriklerini bulacaksınız. GE100 kodu ile üniversite yaşamınızın bu ilk dersi, niteliği bakımından bölümünüzde daha sonra alacağınız derslerden oldukça farklıdır; bir dizi etkinlikten oluşmaktadır ve yeni girdiğiniz bu ortamdan keyif almanıza yönelik kurgulanmıştır. Bu ders, Bilkent Üniversitesi’ni ve üniversitenin öğrencilerine sunduğu çeşitli imkanlarla çevreyi tanıyabilmenizi, gelecekte atacağınız adımların temposunu belirlemenizi ve hedeflerinize ulaşmanızda üniversitenin payına düşen yolları sergilemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bundan sonrası sizin çabalarınızla biçimlenecektir. Welcome to Bilkent University! Dear Student, First and foremost, congratulations on joining the Bilkent University community. We wish you much success during your studies at Bilkent. This booklet will provide you with information about your first course in college, GE 100 Orientation, which is designed to introduce you to your new surroundings. GE 100 includes both required and elective sessions and activities. The booklet includes a list of the sessions you are expected to attend, and summaries of the content of those sessions. GE 100 Orientation is very different from the rest of the classes that you will be taking at Bilkent. By participating in the activities required for this course, you gain the opportunity to enjoy this new environment and familiarize yourself with the university and its many facilities. GE 100 Orientation has been designed as a program that will assist you in a variety of ways as you begin student life here, with the ultimate purpose of helping you reach your goals and expectations during your studies at Bilkent University. Besides creating an intellectually stimulating academic environment, our goal is to contribute to your personal development and provide you with the opportunity to become an active member of your new community. The activities included in the orientation program will allow you to make new friends and meet Bilkent administrators and staff members. You will communicate with people who will support you and help you get the best out of your college years. You will explore the campus, including the dormitories, classrooms, studios, laboratories, sports centers, and other indoor and outdoor facilities. You will be able join any of the university’s numerous student clubs and societies, and will be introduced to Bilkent University Library, which is the go-to place for many social and cultural activities as well as a center for study and research. College life is especially important in that it facilitates opportunities for self-development and self- discovery. Above all, it prepares you for the time after college, when it will be in your hands to shape your own future. 2 Yukarıda size kısaca tanıtmaya çalıştığımız GE100 Üniversite Hayatına Giriş dersi, 4 Eylül 2014 Perşembe günü ODEON adını verdiğimiz ve mezuniyetinizde diplomanızı alacağınız törene de ev sahipliği yapacak büyük amfitiyatrodaki açılış töreniyle başlayacaktır. Uluslararası öğrencilerimiz için İngilizce olarak düzenlenen açılış töreni ise yine aynı gün Ahmed Adnan Saygun Merkezi Konser Salonu’nda gerçekleştirilecektir. Programın diğer etkinlikleri bu kitapçıkta yer almaktadır. Bu dersi, zamanınızı verimli kullanarak ve dersten tam not alarak tamamlayabilmeniz için 13 adet program seçeneği vardır; size en uygun olduğunu düşündüğünüz programı seçmeniz gerekmektedir. Bu programların bir tanesi, uluslararası öğrencilerimiz için İngilizce etkinliklerden oluşmaktadır. Seçtiğiniz programa ait etkinliklere katılmanızı sağlayacak biletleri, açılış töreninden sonra ODEON önündeki stantlardan, bu kitapçığın kapağında bulunan kupon karşılığında alabileceksiniz. Ankara - Hauptstadt der modernen Türkei Ankara, seit dem 13. Oktober 1923 die Hauptstadt der Türkei, liegt in Zentralanatoli- en. Historisch bekannt als Angora, ist Ankara heute die zweitgrößte Stadt der Türkei mit einer Bevölkerungszahl von ca. 5,4 Millionen. Im Jahr 1923 hatte Ankara etwa 30.000 Einwohner, 50 Jahre später 1,5 Mio. 1980 wurden 2,3 Mio. Einwohner gezählt. Im Jahr 2008 zählte die Stadt 4 Mio. Einwohner. Keine Stadtverwaltung hätte bei diesem Wachstum die Chance, im Bereich der Infra- struktur (Straßenbau, Strom-und Wasserversorgung etc.) mit dieser Entwicklung Schritt zu halten. Die Wasserversorgung stellt für die Millionenstadt mit halbtrocke- nem Kontinentalklima das schwierigste Problem dar, das aber durch das Anlegen von Stauseen, die zugleich heute auch Naherholungsgebiete sind, gelöst werden konnte. Ankara erstreckt sich über viele Hügel und Berge, tiefe, schluchtartige Täler gliedern das Stadtbild. Die Hauptstadt der Türkei liegt auf einer Höhe zwischen 850 m und 1200 m, im Bereich der Wasserscheide des südlich gelegenen Elma Daği.     Idil Biret Archive (IBA) In November 1949, at the age of eight, Idil Biret entered the studios of ORTF . (Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française / French Radio and Television IDIL BIRET BEETHOVEN EDITION 11 Broadcasting) in Paris and made her first recordings. These were works by Couperin, Bach, Beethoven and Debussy. In the following decades she made over eighty LPs and CDs (released on ten record labels - Pretoria, Véga, Decca, Atlantic/Finnadar, Pantheon, EMI, Naxos, Marco Polo, Alpha, BMP) and many recordings for radio and television stations around the world. These included the complete piano works of Brahms, Chopin and Rachmaninov and the Etudes of Ligeti. The Idil Biret Archive (IBA) will bring together as many of her recordings as possible; as the copyrights are obtained, old recordings no longer available commercially will be released together with her new recordings. The transcriptions by Liszt of Beethoven’s Symphonies, originally recorded for EMI, and the newly recorded 32 Sonatas and all the Piano Concertos of Beethoven will be the first to be released on nineteen CDs. Then, all the Piano Concertos of Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Grieg and the nine LPs recorded for Atlantic/Finnadar in New York, including works by Boulez, Webern, Berg, Ravel and Stravinsky will follow. IBA will be distributed worldwide by Naxos on CD and on all major websites digitally.
