He worked in a toothpaste factory screwing on lids. 3. Charlie’s family was very poor. What special treat did Charlie get on his birthday? A chocolate bar which he made last a whole month. 4. Who owned the chocolate factory and why did he send all the workers home and lock the gates? Willie Wonka owned the factory. He sent everyone home because spies were stealing his secrets. 5. What were some of Willie Wonka’s secrets? Chewing gum that never lost its taste. Ice cream that stayed cold for hours. Candy balloons that you blow up before you eat them. Caramels that change colors as you suck on them. Marshmallows that taste like violets. 6. What did Indian Prince Pondicherry have Willie Wonka build for him? A palace made of chocolate. 7. Who told Charlie all the wonderful stories about Willie Wonka? His grandparents, particularly Grandpa Joe. Charlie would go in their room after dinner every evening. 8. Who did Grandpa tell Charlie worked in the factory now? No one knew the answer, but the townspeople could see little people moving around in the factory at night. They were so small; they only came to Grandpa’s knee. 9. What did Willie Wonka announce to the world in the newspaper about the chocolate factory? Willie Wonka said that inside 5 candy bars there were 5 golden tickets. Each owner of a ticket would be allowed to see all the magic of the chocolate factory. The winners would have to be children and each would get enough chocolate to last the rest of their lives. 10. On Charlie’s birthday, did he find a ticket in his yearly chocolate bar? No 11. Grandpa Joe had money stashed under his pillow. He gave Charlie a dime to go buy one more candy bar and a try at a golden ticket. Did Charlie find a golden ticket? No 12. He took the dollar and went to the store to buy just ONE candy bar (Whipple Scrumptuous Fudgemallow Delight). The rest he would give to his mother for food for the family. After eating the first one, he splurged on just ONE MORE and the golden ticket was inside the second one. 14. Who were the 5 Golden Ticket winners? Veruca Salt – temper tantrum girl – spoiled Augustus Gloop - fat kid – eating is his hobby Violet Beaureguarde – loved chewing gum – trying to break a record Mike Teavee – loved TV and gangster movies Charlie Bucket – poor kid that really loves chocolate 15. What did a golden ticket promise the holder? The ticket holders were promised candy to last the rest of their life, a tour of the factory by Willie Wonka himself, and lots of other surprises. 16. When were the golden ticket holders going to the factory? February 1st at 10:00 AM sharp and each was allowed to bring two members of their family. 17. Who went to the factory with Charlie? Grandpa Joe 18. In the Chocolate Room was a beautiful valley with a river and a waterfall. What was unusual about all of this? The river was chocolate and all the plants and grasses were made of candy. Thw waterfall and what it did to the chocolate was one of Willie Wonka’s secrets. 19. The group of winners saw little men across the river. Who did Willie Wonka say they were? Oompa – Loompas 20. Who were the Oompa- Loompas? Tribesmen from Loompaland. Willie found them eating caterpillars. What they really loved to eat was cacao beans from which chocolate is made. Willie brought them to his factory and gave them all the cacao beans they wanted. 21. What happened to Augutus Gloop, the fat boy? He was drinking from the chocolate river, fell in and got sucked up one of the giant tubes. Willie assured the parents he would be fine. The Oompa-Loompas took the parents to the Fudge Room to find Augustus. 22. When the children sailed into the Inventing Room in the pink boat, what new invention did they see? An everlasting gobstopper that changed color once a week. Hair Toffee that after you ate it grew hair on your head, a moustache, and a beard. A stick of gum that was a three course meal. You could suck on them forever and they would never go smaller – they would change color once a week but if you bit it; you would break your teeth. 24. What happened to Violet, the gum chewer, when she insisted on chewing Willie’s new (not perfected) invention of the 3 course chewing gum? When she got to the dessert, the blueberry pie, she began turning purple and swelling up like a giant blueberry. In the end, the Oompa Loompas took her to the juicing room to squeeze her. 25. What were the square candies that looked round? The Oompa Loompas painted faces on square candies. The faces watched you move (looked around). 26. What happened to Veruca Salt, the temper tantrum girl, in the Nut Room? She saw 100’s of squirrels shelling walnuts and decided she wanted a squirrel of her own. When Willie Wonka said no, she ran into the Nut Room to get on for herself. All of the squirrels pinned her down, tapped her head, decided she was no good and threw her down the garbage chute. Her parents looked in the hole and the squirrels knocked them in also. 27. What happened to Mike Teavee, the TV kid? In the Television Chocolate Room he transmitted himself to the TV screen and shrunk so that he fit in the palm of his mother’s hand. Willie Wonka would try to return him to his regular size by stretching him on the chewing gum tester. 28. Charlie was the only child left. Willie Wonka told Charlie that he had won. Grandpa Joe, Charlie, and Willie loaded into a glass elevator. Willie pushed the button UP AND OUT. What happened to the elevator? The elevator went up and up and shot through the roof of the factory. With the press of another button, the elevator hovered over the town and they could see the other children were OK. 29. What did Charlie win? Willie Wonka gave Charlie the whole chocolate factory. They went in the elevator to get Charlie’s family to come and live at the factory. Willie Wonka would tell Charlie all the secrets and when Charlie grew up he would run the factory. 30. What did the Oompa Loompus say you should do instead of watching TV all day? Read 31. What was unusual about the elevator in the factory? It could go up, down, sideways, and slantways. 32. How do you stop floating after drinking Fizzy Lifting drinks? You burp. .
