THE BLACKBURN/McCAFFERTY TROPHY SERIES: Since 1980-81, Franklin Savings of Cincinnati has sponsored the Blackburn/McCafferty Trophy, which is named after former Dayton coach Tom Blackburn (1947-64) and former Xavier head coach and athletic director Jim McCafferty (1957-63). McCafferty led XU to the 1958 NIT Championship. Xavier leads the “trophy series” 33-19, which only covers regular season meetings. There is a team trophy and an MVP Award and donations are made to the scholarship funds of both schools by Franklin Savings. The “trophy series” recap is below:

MACK ON LATHAM: “Jordan should hold a special place in the heart of Musketeer fans. He does in mine. After committing to the previous staff, Jordan decided to open up his recruitment during the period of time in which there was not a head coach in place. Ul- timately Jordan felt that there wasn’t a better fi t in the country than Xavier University for his academic and basketball future. Jordan has the size, quickness and toughness to cement his place at a program that former NBA great Reggie Miller once deemed Power Forward University. Most importantly, Jordan is a winner. As a junior and a senior, Jordan won Maryland State Championships under Coach Mike Daniels at City College High School.”
