©2014 HORSEMAN PUBLISHING CO., LEXINGTON, KY USA • FOR ADVERTISING INFORMATION CALL (859) 276-4026 After Big Qualifier, Sebastian K Ready For TVG Final With a qualifying race score in 1:55—with a seemingly ef- fortless :27 final quarter—on a 29-degree, windy morning at the Meadowlands last Saturday, Sebastian K appears ready for the $500,000 TVG FFA Final on Saturday night at the Meadowlands. It’s worth noting that Sebastian K—or “Sebass,” as co- owner Tristan Sjoberg refers to the horse—was wearing shoes in the qualifier. He races without shoes, which played into his late season problems with his feet. After he broke stride in the Yonkers International Preview Trot and effec- tively took himself out of the race, trainers Ake Svanstedt and Bernie Noren revealed that the 8-year-old stallion had a pus pocket in a foot. “His feet are very good now,” said Noren on Tuesday after- noon, Nov. 25, a month after the Yonkers race. “He always qualifies with shoes. You don’t want to be so tough on the feet in a qualifier. But he was very good in the qualifier. He trained light today and we’ll jog him Friday morning, then go to the Meadowlands Saturday for the TVG. That is his last start of the year.” The Svandstedt Stable’s racehorse division will load up and leave New Jersey for Florida on Monday morning. The yearlings the stable is developing are already in Florida. Sebastian K will be facing nine other trotters in the TVG, with the mares Bee A Magician and Maven among the group. Fresh off the heels of a winning Pick 4 ticket last Saturday night at the Meadowlands, Weekend Preview’s Gordon Wa- terstone will try and go back-to-back this Saturday at the Big M. Waterstone’s $60 ticket (reduced because of scratches) resulted in a $385.25 winning 50-cent ticket. Saturday night’s Pick 4 at the Big M is bookended by the two TVG FFA finals. The pool has a guarantee of $50,000 with a 15-per- cent takeout. Here are the selections: RACE 7 SWEET LOU has the edge here as he battles a well-bal- anced field, including last year’s TVG Final winner (and his stablemate) FOILED AGAIN. A really tough race though, and while I give seven of the eight a chance to win it, no sense leaving out one so let’s hit the ALL button. RACE 8 SCHOOLKIDS has won three of four since moving into the Burke barn, and he was most impressive last time out. Defi- nitely can handle the step up in class of that race. SECOND WIND N raced well here last time out, missing by just a neck from the 10 hole. BURKETINE HANOVER will be for- wardly placed by Campbell, which could be parlayed into a victory. RACE 9 BLATANTLY BEST, third start back after a six-month layoff and dropping in class, gets my slight nod here. ROCKIN THE HOUSE was the beaten odds-on favorite two starts back here at this level from post 9, and then last time out was parked through big fractions at Philadelphia. Post 1 makes him a big factor here. FREDDY DAY HANOVER should bene- fit with the driver change to Pierce. RACE 10 CREATINE was caught inside last week in the Breeders Crown final, and here he gets post 1, which should let Pierce decide the trip he wants. I expect Svanstedt to have SEBASTIAN K ready to go too, especially after the qualifier and I’m tossing that last start at Yonkers where he made that early break (see the story on page 1). This would be four losses in a row if he comes up short.
