Based on the experience of previous cases, Bulgarian Chess Federation in cooperation with the Chief Arbiter Vladimir Sakotic undertook all the measures in order to avoid cheating at the tournament "Golden Sands 2013".

Considering the decision to control any suspicious behaviour of players, the arbiters reacted on time when during the third round the Bulgarian chess player Mladen Gotchev told arbiters of the tournament about the strange behaviour of his opponent Merkin German (ELO 1904, Russia). After they checked him, they found a mobile phone in the pocket of the Russian player. The arbiters also discovered that there was the position of the current chess game on the phone's screen.

"Considering that this is one of the most severe violations of Laws of Chess, I consider this measure as justified, to serve as an example for all players in the future, as well as an example for this young player, who chose to use these unauthorized means." – the Chief Arbiter Mr.Vladimir Sakotic wrote in an official statement posted on the website of the tournament.

The Russian Chess Federation and the FIDE Ethics Commission will be notified about the exclusion of the young chess player.
