MEDIA RELEASE 25 April 2018 For Immediate Release

IWK STPs IN MEET STANDARD REQUIREMENTS

SIMPANG – Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) applauds Datuk Liang Teck Meng’s commitment and efforts to improve the quality of raw water in Simpang Renggam, Johor. The National Water Services Commission (SPAN) chairman stated that the government has allocated RM8 million to upgrade five sewage treatment plants (STP) here to help resolve the problems of water disruption and raw water pollution.

IWK has been constantly monitoring sewerage services, operations and release of treated effluent from its STPs in Taman Orkid, Taman Perdana, Taman Mewah, Taman Machap Jaya and Taman Harmoni. Four of the STPs were designed to meet Para II of Department of Environment (DOE) effluent Standard (60mg/l Ammonia discharge limit) and the Taman Harmoni STP was designed to meet Para III of DOE effluent Standard (50mg/l Ammonia discharge limit).

IWK has always been dilligent in ensuring that the average Ammonia level discharge to Sg Ulu from these STPs are within the range of 30mg/l. However, there are also other possible effluent discharges into the river from non-point sources of polution including individual septic tanks and chicken farming activities.

IWK will continue to work closely with federal and state regulators to identify the root causes of problems that can lead to river pollution and to ensure the upgrading exercise has the necessary steps to meet the new challenges and standards in accordance to the Malaysian Sewerage Industry Guide (MSIG).
