2 international.humber.ca Alice Lopes, Minas Gerais, Brazil DIPLOMA, MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS

I completed my Bachelor’s in Library and Information Sciences and my Master’s degree in Marketing in Brazil. Despite having a well-established career, gaining some international experience is something that I have always wanted, and that’s why I decided to come to . I choose Humber College based on the curriculum and networking opportunities the Diploma in Media Communications offers. During the program, I’ve learned how to produce and edit photos and videos and develop graphic design pieces as well. As a student, I applied for an international ambassador position at Humber College. As an ambassador, I created original content for the Humber International Centre; this content included a series of informative videos to help students with their studies at Humber and tips about life in Toronto. I also worked for Humber Athletics, where I covered live stream games and produced a weekly report as a host, video maker and editor. During the last semester of my program, I secured an internship at the Canadian Broadcast TV Global News. There, I was trained by producers, reporters, news librarians and editors, and by the end of my internship, I got hired as a news librarian.

I currently work as an IT Solution Developer at TD Bank. My program at Humber allowed me to improve my experience and knowledge of open source technologies and apply my skills to existing business challenges in the workforce. I’ve received 7 Spotlight Awards and 1 Starlight Award since graduating. Humber’s teaching approach and topics is unique because it incorporates a balance of hands-on, theoretical knowledge and business communication skills, whereas back in Russia it was purely theoretical.

Liza Korotka, Odessa, Ukraine BACHELOR OF FILM AND MEDIA PRODUCTION

From a very early age, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the film or TV industry. Once I graduated from high school, my parents and I started looking for colleges all over the world; we choose Canada because of its well-established film industry in the country. I was also attracted by the variety of practical and theoretical courses Humber has and the great reviews I found online from other Humber media students. As soon the classes started, I was sure this was the right program for me. The professors have a lot of experience and are very inspiring as well. I learned step by step of film-making; from pre-production to post-production. I also developed other skills, such as critical thinking and time management. During my time at Humber, I completed a variety of assignments and projects. The one I am the proudest of is my documentary “My Country is Missing” which is a short film about the current events in my country, Ukraine. The documentary was very well received by critics and screened at various international films festivals including JAYU Human Rights Film Festival, Berlin Lift-Off Film Festival, and California Film Awards.

Hannah Lamberte, Cebu, Philippines DIPLOMA, FUNERAL DIRECTOR CLASS 1 (EMBALMING)

My experience at Humber has been great so far. I’ve been to several Humber trips and made a lot of new friends. I’ve gone to the ski trip and the fall camping trip at Algonquin Park where I saw the colours of the leaves changing. I also attended the International Centre’s Christmas dinner and it was a good opportunity to bond with the friends that I have made. I also became involved in a lot of co-curricular activities; I became an orientation leader, a First-Year Experience mentor, and an international student ambassador. I found out about these opportunities through the career centre and the student life centre. The connections I have made and the skills that I have developed at Humber are of immense value to me and I am grateful for that.
