2019-10-15 18:38 CEST Depeche Mode släpper boxen “MODE” den 22 november 22 november släpper Depeche Mode boxen “MODE” som innehåller bandets 14 studioalbum med alltifrån debutalbumet “Speak & Spell“ till senaste albumet “Spirit“ från 2017. Boxen väntas även innehålla material som inte funnits med på tidigare album. Med en lång och hyllad karriär är Depeche Mode en av den moderna musikens mest inflytelserika och bäst säljande band genom tiderna. Boxen “MODE” är en nostalgitripp som hyllar bandets historia samtidigt som den blickar framåt mot vad som komma skall. Boxen “MODE” släpps som en exklusiv och begränsad utgåva och levereras som en svart och elegant kub. Albumens ursprungliga omslag har tolkats om och boxen innehåller även fyra extra bonusskivor med singlar, b-sidor och bonuslåtar. I boxen finns även en bok på 228 sidor som består av Depeche Modes alla texter, detta blir första utgåvan där bandets alla texter är samlade. Bandet själva beskriver “MODE” och dess design såhär; "With everything together in this all-black design it feels like a modern reflection of who we are and where we've come from. The set couldn't be more Depeche Mode." Course Title Classic Albums: The Berlin/Germany Edition Course Number REMU-UT 9817 D01 Spring 2019 Syllabus last updated on: 23-Dec-2018 Lecturer Contact Information Course Details Wednesdays, 6:15pm to 7:30pm (14 weeks) Location NYU Berlin Academic Center, Room BLAC 101 Prerequisites No pre-requisites Units earned 2 credits Course Description A classic album is one that has been deemed by many —or even just a select influential few — as a standard bearer within or without its genre. In this class—a companion to the Classic Albums class offered in New York—we will look and listen at a selection of classic albums recorded in Berlin, or recorded in Germany more broadly, and how the city/country shaped them – from David Bowie's famous Berlin trilogy from 1977 – 79 to Ricardo Villalobos' minimal house masterpiece Alcachofa. We will deconstruct the music and production of these albums, putting them in full social and political context and exploring the range of reasons why they have garnered classic status. Artists, producers and engineers involved in the making of these albums will be invited to discuss their seminal works with the students. Along the way we will also consider the history of German electronic music. We will particularly look at how electronic music developed in Germany before the advent of house and techno in the late 1980s as well as the arrival of Techno, a new musical movement, and new technology in Berlin and Germany in the turbulent years after the Fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, up to the present.

DEPECHE MODE TO BRING THEIR ‘GLOBAL SPIRIT TOUR’ TO LATIN AMERICA IN MARCH 2018 – Following European and North American Tour, Depeche Mode to Play Stadiums in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil – BEVERLY HILLS, CA (Mar. 22, 2017) – For the first time in nine years, Depeche Mode will tour Latin America, bringing their stunning live show to fans who have not seen the band since 2009’s Tour of the Universe. “We’re incredibly excited to return to Latin America”, says lead singer Dave Gahan. “We weren’t able to see our fans there on the last tour, so we knew we had to visit this time.” Following this summer’s massive European summer stadium tour and the upcoming fall tour of North America, the band will continue to extend the Global Spirit Tour with two weeks of stadium shows across Latin America in March 2018. Sociology Study, December 2015, Vol. 5, No. 12, 920‐930 D doi: 10.17265/2159‐5526/2015.12.003 DAVID PUBLISHING Simple but Dominant: How to Reshine Depeche Mode on Album Covers After 80’s Cinla Sekera Abstract The aim of this paper is to analyze the album covers of English band Depeche Mode after 80’s according to the principles of graphic design. Established in 1980, the musical style of the band was turned from synth‐pop to new wave, from new wave to electronic, dance, and alternative‐rock in decades, but their message stayed as it was: A non‐hypocritical, humanist, and decent manner against what is wrong and in love sincerely. As a graphic design product, album covers are pre‐print design solutions of two dimensional surfaces. Graphic design, as a design field, has its own elements and principles. Visual elements and typography are the two components which should unite with the help of the six main principles which are: unity/harmony; balance; hierarchy; scale/proportion; dominance/emphasis; and similarity and contrast. All album covers of Depeche Mode after 80’s were designed in a simple but dominant way in order to form a unique style. On every album cover, there are huge color, size, tone, and location contrasts which concluded in simple domination; domination of a non‐hypocritical, humanist, and decent manner against what is wrong and in love sincerely. McClure Twentieth-century literature and theory have offered no shortage of challenges to the unity of personal identity. What these undertakings leave largely unquestioned, however, is the prevailing understanding that personal identity is sealed within the confines of the physical body—the final uncontested frontier of Cartesian identity. Emerging from a matrix of recent American literature—by Don DeLillo, Charles Johnson, Tony Kushner, Toni Morrison, among others—is a counter-argument to the notion that the materially bounded self is separate from other such selves in space. For the “individual” to take shape as such, it must locate itself within a specific social identity, disavowing its connection with those who identify themselves differently: a process, these texts suggest, that can unleash racial and ideological violence. My dissertation explores six late twentieth-century American novels and plays (1982 to 1998) that both dramatize this violent process and propose an alternative through images of humans dislocated from their bodies and fusing metaphysically with other open selves across space.

Chapel Hill 2012 Approved By, Brigid Cohen, chair Allen Anderson Annegret Fauser Mark Katz Severine Neff © 2012 Daniel Guberman ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT DANIEL GUBERMAN: Composing Freedom: Elliott Carter’s ‘Self-Reinvention’ and the Early Cold War (Under the direction of Brigid Cohen) In this dissertation I examine Elliott Carter’s development from the end of the Second World War through the 1960s arguing that he carefully constructed his postwar compositional identity for Cold War audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. The majority of studies of Carter’s music have focused on technical aspects of his methods, or roots of his thoughts in earlier philosophies. Making use of published writings, correspondence, recordings of lectures, compositional sketches, and a drafts of writings, this is one of the first studies to examine Carter’s music from the perspective of the contemporary cultural and political environment. In this Cold War environment Carter emerged as one of the most prominent composers in the United States and Europe. I argue that Carter’s success lay in part due to his extraordinary acumen for developing a public persona. And his presentation of his works resonated with the times, appealing simultaneously to concert audiences, government and private foundation agents, and music professionals including impresarios, performers and other composers.
