NITJ Newsletter (April to June 2020) ÇUæ Õè ¥æÚU ¥ÕðÇU·¤Ú ÚUæcÅþèØ Âýõlôç»·¤è â¢SÍæÙ ÁæÜÏÚU - 144011, ÖæÚUÌ DR B R AMBEDKAR Volume 5, ISSUE 2 NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY June 2020 JALANDHAR - 144011, INDIA NITJ ranked 52nd in the NIRF rankings 2020 FROM THE DIRECTOR'S DESK Greetings from Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar, Punjab! It is a matter of pride and satisfaction that NITJ is witnessing a sustained growth in the teaching- learning, research, and innovation. The institute is gaining momentum, which is explicitly evident from the improvement of the standing of the institute in the recent NIRF ranking. The institute has recorded a giant leap in the ranking by taking over 61 institutes and is now presently placed among the top premier institutes of the country. The most satisfying and proud feeling for every institute's stakeholder must have been when the NITJ was ranked 52nd amongst the top engineering institutes of the country. The institute has exhibited improved performance in all parameters in general and pronounced spring in research practice specifically owing to the increased number of quality R-2020 publications over three years. I believe this is the greatest stimulus to the gathering momentum of growth keeping in view of our vision and mission. Although the institute ranking is expected to excel E manifolds as a result of induction of the recently recruited faculty members, new equipment, and the T establishment of new centers, it is imperative to understand that we cannot be complacent and derail our continuing efforts to achieve excellence. The institute has also uniquely implemented the performance appraisal evaluation and scoring mechanism for the various T departments of the institute that would further fuel the excellence in every department. In an effort to inculcate competitive spirit the ranking framework is very much in line with the parameters employed for the NIRF ranking. E To achieve long-term sustainable growth we must not only embrace the change but also earn the trust of our stakeholders. Although, with the dwindling effect, the menace of COVID-19 has forced us to change our lifestyle and in response to this, NITJ took few immediate L actions to switch over to online teaching, research guidance, and evaluation. I would like to put on record my appreciation to the faculty members for making the teaching-learning almost overnight during the lockdown period as good as classroom teaching through online S courses. Further, in an effort to combat the pandemic, NITJ has also taken a few initiatives like dispensing of free food, and contribution to PM Care fund, devising and operation of shoe sanitization facility at the main entrance gate, development and distribution of low-cost indigenous hand sanitizers, low-cost facemasks, full-body PPE and development of service robot prototype, and chemical-free W sanitization set-up. Additionally, TEQIP-III projects to the tune of ₹17 lacs have been sanctioned on the theme to combat the COVID-19 menace. Owing to these projects, 4 patents filed and one technology transfer has been made specifically in respect of COVID. Whereas, E during the past three months, a total of 11 patents including 3 technology transfer has been accomplished. In process of redefining the roadmap for student's evaluation, the institute has devices separate mechanisms to evaluate the outgoing final year and for other students given the non-availability of the students on campus due to the pandemic. Open book online exams have N been rigorously planned keeping in view not to overstrain our students and also enabling them to study to face the examinations since we are dealing here with the students who are already passing through the trauma of pandemic COVID-19. J Quarterly Magazine – April to June 2020 I wish you and your family all the very best for combating the ongoing challenge and I am confident that all of us and society as a whole will come out strong from this tough time of pandemic COVID-19. T Jai Hind! Jai Bharat! HARYANA DISTRICT GAZETTEEERS ------------------------ REPRINT OF AMBALA DISTRICT GAZETTEER, 1923-24 GAZETTEERS ORGANISATION REVENUE DEPARTMENT HARYANA CHANDIGARH (INDIA) 1998 The Gazetteer was published in 1925 during British regime. 1st Reprint: December, 1998 © GOVERNMENT OF HARYANA Price Rs. Available from: The Controller, Printing and Stationery, Haryana, Chandigarh (India). Printed By : Controller of Printing and Stationery, Government of Haryana, Chandigarh. PREFACE TO REPRINTED EDITION The District Gazetteer is a miniature encyclopaedia and a good guide. It describes all important aspects and features of the district; historical, physical, social, economic and cultural. Officials and other persons desirous of acquainting themselves with the salient features of the district would find a study of the Gazetteer rewarding. It is of immense use for research scholars. The old gazetteers of the State published in the British regime contained very valuable information, which was not wholly reproduced in the revised volume. These gazetteers have gone out of stock and are not easily available. There is a demand for these volumes by research scholars and educationists. As such, the scheme of reprinting of old gazetteers was taken on the initiative of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Haryana. The Ambala District Gazetteer of 1923-24 was compiled and published under the authority of Punjab Govt. The author mainly based its drafting on the assessment and final reports of the Settlement Officers. The Volume is the reprinted edition of the Ambala District Gazetteer of 1923-24. This is the ninth in the series of reprinted gazetteers of Haryana. Every care has been taken in maintaining the complete originality of the old gazetteer while reprinting.
