Wonderful guide to the entire seriesBy DorjeanI found this an invaluable guide to this entire series. Having discovered Stephanie Plum with book #21 I wanted MORE but chose which ones I wanted to read after looking through this wonderful guide of all of her books showing what characters et al a particular book spent time on and what the story was. Having loved 3 of them with of course Stephanie leading the list, I went for 4 more books, and now that I've read them all I'm ordering more.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. maybe 2.5 starsBy Ezlypistas a rabid reader of the Plum series, and having to wait for 17, I thought this would fix my jones. It categorizes everything already known if you read the series. I just re-read up to 13, so spotted a couple minor inaccuracies...but what really peed me was the background on Trenton. I wanted to see pix of specific locations out of the series...or at least the neighborhoods. This guy just copied research info on Trenton with NO reference to how it applies to the book series. Anyone can research Trenton.Usually, for 2.99 I say, ok, it was worth it (and move up to 3 star rating) but this 'book' purchase was like throwing 2.99 in the trash. That's just my opinion.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Didn't Hold My AttentionBy OrganicomaI found myself skimming through this, rather than actually reading it cover to cover,if that tells you anything! I LOVED the Stephanie Plum series, and thought that perhaps this would be really good as well."It's OK" - but actually (to me) is kind of boring. I get that they both WANT her, but come on. I seriously love this series. A whole lot of BBQ and Lula is the center of attention in this one after she witnesses a murder and the thugs spend the entire book trying to kill her off. But just when she thinks she's out, they pull her back in! Lulu is a witness to a decapitation and the killers are after her. Word of warning, though, if you read this in the company of others, they will look at you strange when you laugh out loud in a quiet room. When the head turns up, the victim is identified as Stanley Chipotle, a well-known celebrity chef. Joyce Barnhardt stalks Morelli. The mysteries got stronger, in part because there were a few going around in this installment. I have come to love this series, and each June look forward to a new guilty pleasure quick read. These books are not meant for their literary genius in the element of surprise, yet the ability of the author to keep the characters the same is almost a gift to her readers! Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Regan Even I won't sleep on thread count! Feb 18, Amber rated it it was amazing Shelves: stephanie-plum , ebooksiown , grreadingchallenge. For Carolyn Reidy A remarkable lady who was always a champion for me and Stephanie. CHAPTER ONE My name is Stephanie Plum and I’m a fugitive apprehension agent in Trenton, New Jersey. I’m not especially brave, so you would think I’d pretty much stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, I occasionally ignore the obvious signs of danger and stumble into something ugly with the potential for disaster. This was one of those times. I was in a tunnel under a strip club, and I was with my coworker, Lula. “This is a bad idea,” Lula said to me. “My nipples are all shrunk up and trying to hide inside my body. It’s like what men’s gonads do when someone comes at them with a butcher knife. Those suckers abandon ship and there’s nothing left but an empty nut sack. Not that I know rsthand. I’m just sayin’ what I hear.” Aside from being a bounty hunter, I think I’m pretty normal. I have shoulder-length curly brown hair that’s usually pulled back into a ponytail, blue eyes from my mother’s Hungarian ancestors, and a bunch of rude hand gestures from my father’s Italian side of the family.

  • Tracing a Feminist Rewriting of the Detective Genre
ABSTRACT EMERSON, KRISTIN AMANDA. Women of Mystery and Romance: Tracing a Feminist Rewriting of the Detective Genre. (Under the direction of Leila May.) Many critics find that female characters in detective fiction are never entirely successful as either women or detectives. They argue that authors find it impossible to portray women properly in both roles—one persona always eclipses the other. The conflict is generally attributed to the traditionally “masculine” and conventional nature of the detective genre. This study proposes that the recent combination of detective fiction with the conventionally “feminine” genre of romance fiction offers hope for a feminist rewriting of the detective genre. A set of guidelines to subtly rescript detective fiction’s conventions is derived from suggestions by several critics, and is heavily influenced by typical elements of romance fiction. The usefulness of this framework in identifying the characteristics of more empowered and fully developed female detectives is tested by a close reading of three representative works from various points in the history of detective fiction. The three works, which include Wilkie Collins’s The Woman in White, Carolyn Keene’s Nancy Drew series, and Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, each incorporate a combination of romance and detective fiction and feature a female investigator. The framework proves useful in assessing the achievements and failures in the characterization of female detectives in these novels. It also offers guidelines that could be considered by authors of future detective works to rescript the most conservative elements of the detective fiction genre so that they no longer prevent the emergence of successful, empowered female detectives.

  • The Girl Instinct a Post Feminist Look at the Relationship
Hugvísindasvið The Girl Instinct A Post Feminist Look at the Relationship Between Foil and Hero in the Plum Novels by Janet Evanovich B.A. Essay Gunnhildur Eva Arnoddsdóttir May 2012 University of Iceland School of Humanities Department of English The Girl Instinct A Post Feminist Look at the Relationship Between Foil and Hero in the Plum Novels by Janet Evanovich B.A. Essay Gunnhildur Eva Arnoddsdóttir Kt.: 190180-4419 Supervisor: Dr. Anna Heiða Pálsdóttir May 2012 Summary This essay explores, from a post feminist perspective, the relationship between the main character and the sidekick in three novels, by Janet Evanovich, which belong to the genre of chick lit: One for the Money ( 1994), Hard Eight (2003) and Smokin’ Seventeen (2011). A chick lit novel is post feminist literature aimed at female readers in their 20s and 30s. These novels generally follow a similar theme of love, friendship, career, sex and consumerism; however they also deal with the more serious issues of the ongoing quest for equality and the female working environment. In the post feminist era of today women are fighting for what is important to them, their rights to choose how to live their lives, if and when to have a family and which career they would like to pursue. The three novels are part of the Plum Series, eighteen novels about Stephanie Plum and her life as a female bounty hunter. She befriends a former prostitute, Lula, who becomes her sidekick. I look at this relationship between the women, as it is the typical one of protagonist and sidekick: they are opposites.
