Sirnultenf:ously, Pakintan invaded Kashmir from its western side. The Indian troops were airlifted to Kashmir. The Indian Army drove away the Pakistan Annies from most part of Kashmir and save Srinagar. , J.- 3. Many PBOR lost their lives. During 1965, Pakistan again invaded India. The China supported Pakistan against India. Similiarly the following battle were also tought. Although a variety of studies have explored the subject of Indian soldiers in Europe, few venture beyond their military contributions to the situation on the Western Front. In contrast, I devote considerable attention to the more ―intimate frontiers‖ of the British and German Empires, especially British hospitals for wounded sepoys and German prison camps where captured sepoys were detained. Comparison of the policy and practice of British and German military authorities, vis-à-vis Indian soldiers, is therefore one contribution of this work. I argue that tactical, military considerations and imperial concerns – namely, protecting racial hierarchies and the loyalty of Indian troops – shaped the experiences of sepoys in Europe. Yet this study does more than look at top- down approaches to Indian sepoys during the war.

    Selection of Army Chief Introduction With the announcement of Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, present Vice Chief of Army Staff to be the next Army Chief there has been lot of discussions on this issue as the traditional method of seniority has not been followed by the present Government. Two other General Officer Commanding of Eastern and Southern Commands are senior to Lt Gen Bipin Rawat. It is still not clear whether Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) or Permanent Chief of Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) will be appointed and who will get posted there. The Government has not come out anything on this yet. Probably the issue will get clearer after some more time. Ask any professional soldier, what does he want to become, Army Chief or Permanent Chairman Chief of staff committee. Similarly Army Commander or The Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) at HQ Integrated Defence Staff . The answer is simple. If, and there is a very big if as nothing officially has come out, Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi is made Permanent Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee option should have been given to him for becoming Army Chief or Permanent Chairman COSC. This announcement has created a storm in TV and print media. More importantly Social Media is agog with all sorts of comments and remarks. Regrettably large number of retired service officers have joined the fray sometimes with uncharitable remarks which is avoidable. But this is bound to happen when the Government does not come out with a statement for the reason of this appointment at variance with standard practice.

    scholar warrior An Ode to an Iconic Braveheart: Brigadier Sant Singh, MVC* RAJ MEHTA Brigadier Sant Singh Gill, MVC*, a man who exemplified Naam, Namak, Nishan was recommended four times for the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC). He remains one of only six officers of India’s armed forces twice awarded this second highest battlefield gallantry award in successive wars. Forever a volunteer for hazardous operational responsibilities, he was a tireless man of action, thinking on his feet and taking seemingly snap decisions which turned out to be unerringly prescient. Mentally and physically tough, he set high standards and ensured compliance. A ‘Follow Me’ braveheart who walked his talk in battle and personal life, he cared passionately for soldiers, taking their welfare and societal respect to new levels post retirement. An Overview Brigadier Sant Singh Gill, MVC* was born on July 12, 1921, in a Jat Sikh family of modest means in Panjgrain Kalan village of the erstwhile Faridkot princely State (now Faridkot district). Panjgrain Kalan had only a primary school in 1928. Sant thereafter joined the Government Middle School at Kot Kapura, walking to 106 ä SPRING 2020 ä scholar warrior scholar warrior school 10 km each way despite occasional encounters with wolves, and thereby developed self-confidence and fearlessness. He completed his Matriculation in the Brijendra High School and Intermediate in RSD College, Ferozepur. With no career guidance available, Sant enlisted in July 1941 as a clerk in the Faridkot State Forces Engineer Field Company (later merged into the Bengal Engineer Group) when World War II was in full swing.
