You have just opened the third bulletin of our lighting projects. Browsing through it, you will find projects that have been realized recently, such as Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney, the Moscow Bank, and private residences in Hong Kong and Singapore.
An important part of any chandelier is its source of light enabling it to shine with all colors of light. Therefore, various types of light sources are discussed in the Miscellanea section. Apart from the lighting projects our company devotes itself to, we would like to present Preciosa from a different perspective - not only as a producer of lighting fixtures, but also as a sponsor of the Miss Universe contest, or as a benefactor of those who need our help. We do hope that the present Bulletin will be inspiring and helpful to you in getting a complete impression about Preciosa.

Bulletin No. III 3 A CHANDELIER FROM PRECIOSA AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRLS OF THE PLANET
For the first time this year, Preciosa has become the official partner of the following beauty contests: MISS USA, which took place in the prestigious Los Angeles Kodak Theater on the 12th April 2004, MISS UNIVERSE held in Quit, Ecuador, on the 1st June 2004, and MISS TEEN USA, which will take place in the Palm Springs resort in August.
Why do we sponsor the MISS contests? The answer is best expressed by the slogan of our involvement in the contests: Beautiful things attract one another. That's clear. In essence, the Preciosa companies' products tie in with beauty influencing fashion, jewels, decorative objects, interiors and architecture in particular. All this is closely connected with the word 'beauty' - and the synonym for beauty is woman. Preciosa has therefore decided to link its name with the most beautiful women of the planet.
Preciosa Trophy for the winners This sculpture, created as a part of an original set of 20 items, is based on the specific properties of Bohemian crystal. The figurine's shape consistently preserves the elements of the competition logo exemplifying perfect skills and artistry of Preciosa's experts. The most beautiful women hold a crystal trophy with chatons symbolizing the Miss's tiara, and their evening gowns reflect the interplay of light in perfectly cut facets. Apart from the trophies, the winners of the competitions received gifts, such as crystal chandeliers by the Preciosa-Lustry company.
MISS USA 2004 Shandi Finnessey left Los Angeles with a brand new product of the company - a cut crystal chandelier from the product line Bohemian Classic included in the Valencia Collection. The most striking feature of the chandelier is its mouth blown and finely hand cut glass parts. Machine cut full-lead chandelier trimmings of the highest PREMIUM quality with more than 30% PbO content put the finishing touch to this extraordinary fixture. The Company's Activities

4 Lighting Projects MISS UNIVERSE 2004 Jeniffer Hawkins, a beautiful Australian, received, in Quit, the capital of Ecuador, a richly decorated crystal 'wedding chandelier' from the product line Bohemian Classic. The aim of the designer of this luxury fixture was to enhance the beauty of full-lead crystal parts embellished with delicate hand cut decorations in the shape of tulips. The overall impression is emphasized by perfect chandelier trimmings machine cut from full-lead crystal of the PREMIUM quality with more than 30% PbO content.
A “wedding chandelier” for MISS UNIVERSE 2004 AC 5391/00/008 75 x 98 cm / 30 x 39 in
MISS TEEN USA 2004, to be voted in Palm Springs, will be presented with a Euroluce Collection chandelier from the product line Contemporary. Its fresh, original design, based on glass rods fixed to two circles made of polished chromium-plated metal, will undoubtedly please the winner of the contest. (See the picture on page 6)

Bulletin No. III 5 PRIZE FOR INNOVATION IN ARCHITECTURE AND TECHNICAL SYSTEMS
A competition announced for exhibitors whose new products result from a close cooperation with designers and architects was one of the events at the Light+Building 2004 Exhibition in Frankfurt am Main. Preciosa's lighting fixtures undoubtedly meet this condition. The company therefore took part in the international competition “Prize for Innovation in Architecture and Technical Systems” with one of its models from the Euroluce collection comprising contemporary lighting fixtures.
The story of this residential lighting fixture, currently being manufactured, is interesting mainly because of its innovative design and a wide range of uses. Originally, this fixture was designed for the arrivals hall of the Singapore airport where it was presented under the title of 'They are just landing…'. This idea was later exploited in the serial production of the company's residential lighting fixtures. The premiere presentation of this extraordinary fixture was given at the Euroluce Fair 2003 in Milan. Its exceptional design, based on glass rods fixed to two circles made of polished chromium- plated metal, makes the fixture attractive for the target commercial customers as well as for architects and interior designers engaged in designing lighting projects, who are expressing serious interest.

6 Lighting Projects GRAND PRIX 2004 OF THE ARCHITECTS' COMMUNITY OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC SPONSORED BY PRECIOSA - LUSTRY
On the occasion of the Grand Prix 2004 competition, prizes were awarded to the best designers in the field of architecture for the projects realized in the Czech Republic in 2003. This annual competition is organized by the Architects' Community of the Czech Republic. As usual, the entries were judged by an international panel of judges, this year under the foremanship of Prof. Colin Stansfield Smith from Great Britain. The prizes for the year 2004 were awarded in six categories: Grand Prix, New Buildings, Reconstruction, Landscape Architecture, Interior, Plastic Art in Architecture.
This year, The Preciosa-Lustry company became a sponsor of the above competition. We are well aware that these types of competitions represent an opportunity to appreciate the year-long work, invention and creativity of professional artists, and since Preciosa considers itself to be a part of the world full of works of art created by architects, it was an honor for us to support this event.
The selected award winning works will tell much more about the quality of the competition than a flood of words.

Bulletin No. III 7 CHARITY PROJECT, HONG KONG
Cooperation with designers in aid of the fight against AIDS The Hong Kong design studio Buzz Design asked our subsidiary in Hong Kong to take part in the charity project in aid of the fight against AIDS. Sixteen lighting fixtures altogether, two of which are our company's products, were exhibited and auctioned in Hong Kong. The proceeds of the auction went towards the search for a cure for AIDS.

This lighting fixture designed by the director of the Buzz Design studio was put up for auction under Completed and Open Projects the title TYPHOON. The design is based on a frame made of chromium-plated wire with glass shards fixed to it in combination with glass beads. Using templates, the shards were made artificially from sheet glass cut into chips.
8 Lighting Projects CHARITY PROJECT, HONG KONG
An inventive lighting fixture typical of the Preciosa design was put up for auction under the title SOLARIS. Distinct features of the fixture are formed by mouth blown flower-like glass parts, each of which is an originally shaped piece. To make these, new color shades were used - reddish brown, light orange and pink. All these decorations are fixed to hand bent metal pipes finished with a satin-nickel patina coating.

Completed and Open Projects The dominant parts of this lighting fixture are mouth blown and hand shaped crystal flowers, leaves and fruits, randomly cut in several places, thus enhancing their brilliance. Metal parts are hand formed and finished with sprayed chromium. The combination of crystal and chromium brings out the simplicity and stylistic purity of the fixture's interesting design. Hand made parts assure its original look.

Metal parts of this lighting fixture are finished with sprayed chromium. The fixture's basic feature is its regular geometric shape.

The design of this lighting fixture is based on a combination and modification of three fixtures included in the current projects catalogue Elegant Light. The fixture, whose glass parts are mouth blown, consists of flat glass leaves and glass stems with small amber leaves on their ends. The combination of the leaves' colors - blue in the upper part of the fixture and smoky taupe (brownish-grey) in the remaining lower part - creates an interesting color effect. A round bloom at the bottom, giving an Completed and Open Projects original final accent to the fixture, consists of small leaves cut by laser out of polished sheet brass and joined together to make a spherical surface of the bloom, and finally interwoven with blue and yellow chandelier trimmings. The entire fixture is lit up by halogen bulbs hidden among the flat leaves and crystal stems with amber leaves.

Completed and Open Projects To assemble this lighting fixture, the designer made use of the bank's supporting columns fixing to them two metal rings with a glossy chromium finish. Mouth blown and hand bent crystal stems with leaves are clamped to the rings together with halogen bulbs serving as a source of light.

The drawing pictures a central lighting fixture. An interesting device this fixture is equipped with is Completed and Open Projects its telescopic metal frame with halogen bulbs fixed to its inner movable part. To replace the bulbs, the frame bearing the bulbs can be pulled out towards the floor. The fixture, 2.5m in diameter and 5m in height, is lit up by 72 halogen bulbs (40W).

Completed and Open Projects This lighting fixture consists of a matt amber glass cylinder with crystal rods embedded in it. Inside the cylinder is placed a light source of high luminosity. Its intense light passes through the rods whose richly cut ends disperse it in many directions, thus creating an exceptional light effect.

This lighting fixture can be used either as a central, or staircase fixture. Crystal thorns, 1 - 1.20m in length, with cut ends are unevenly hung up on chromium plated rods. Lit up by 20 halogen bulbs from above, the light falling on the ends of the thorns creates interesting effects.

28 Lighting Projects SOURCES OF LIGHT
Sources of light are the integral and very important part of all lighting fixtures. Their function substantially affects not only the light the fixture emits, but also the overall impression it gives. Let us therefore deal with sources of light in more detail.
Light bulbs for general use
Light bulbs for general use are currently the most widely used light sources. A low price and the widest selection of types and shapes are their major assets. On the other hand, high electricity consumption and a low efficiency are their main drawbacks.
One of the important features primarily of classical lighting fixtures is the design of the bulb. Therefore, to achieve the classical impression of the fixture, candle-shaped or other decorative bulbs are mostly used. Reflector bulbs form a special group. Giving spot light, they are especially suitable for the lighting of shops, shop windows, restaurants and exhibition and museum halls. All classical bulbs emit warm, softly yellowish light and can be dimmed.
Halogen light sources
It is a standard practice to use either low-voltage (12V), or common mains voltage (230V) halogen bulbs. The main asset of this type of bulb is, first and foremost, its price and brilliant illumination of the selected room at that. Lit up by the sharp and cold halogen light, glossy surfaces of silver or chromium-plated objects shine very brightly, concurrently giving an illusion of colors being lighter. It is therefore advisable to use halogen bulbs in chandeliers with PREMIUM trimmings as their light brings out the brilliance of machine cut and polished full-lead crystal.
Compared to classical light sources, halogen bulbs have a longer lifetime, give more light using the same wattage, and assure an unchanged quality of light throughout their lifetime. These sources can also be dimmed. The special advantage of these bulbs is their small dimensions, the correct angle of the emitted light and, first and foremost, their suitability for use in small lighting fixtures. Their lower wattage and small size enable them to be arranged over the entire fixture. On the other hand, they have higher electricity consumption and emit considerable heat. In designing lighting fixtures fitted with halogen bulbs of the secondary voltage of 12V, it is necessary to use a transformer as a part of the fixture. Miscellanea

Bulletin No. III 29 Fluorescent lamps
Fluorescent lamps fall into two groups: economical lamps and compact lamps. Economical lamps have low electricity consumption saving almost 80% of power compared to filament bulbs. They are easy to maintain thanks to their compact shape, and have a fifteen times longer lifetime compared to common light bulbs. Currently, there is a wide variety of types and shapes, e.g. fluorescent lamps fitted with a voltage multiplier and with screw caps to be easily screwed in the E14 and E27 sockets. Fluorescent lamps are usually used in technical lighting fixtures as required by the customer. The disadvantage of this type of lamp is the impossibility of dimming and a comparatively high purchase price, however compensated by savings of electricity power.
Compact lamps are economical as well, but, compared to the former group, they do not need a voltage multiplier. They require fixtures to have special sockets (e.g. G24), a voltage multiplier, and possibly a starter if the lamp does not contain it. Provided the lamps are equipped with a corresponding electronic voltage multiplier, they can also be dimmed. There are several types of lamps differing in the color of light they emit.

Optical fibers are conductors of light, i.e. transparent fibers of different diameters. With the source of light (projector) placed either inside, or outside the lighting fixture, its light enters the fiber on the end to which the projector is connected, and then proceeds inside the fiber to its other end in compliance with the principle of the reflection of light.
Luminous effectiveness of the system oscillates between 15 - 20%, with the emitted light being exploited without any loss. Optical fibers emit either cold white light, or light of various colors. Their disadvantage is a high purchase price.
Every optical fiber system consists of a source of light, which is the only active part of the system based either on halogen, discharge or LED (Light-Emitting Diode) principle, optical fibers of various diameters and lengths, and a terminal. There are two types of the system: with a shining terminal, or a shining surface of the fibers. These systems are used primarily in modern lighting fixtures

30 Lighting Projects LED sources
Light sources based on LED (Light-Emitting Diode) emit cold light and surpass classical electric bulbs in low electricity consumption (0.9 - 1.5 W), long lifetime (1000 000 hours) and high shock and vibrations resistance. LED diodes are equipped with common screw caps, e.g. E14 and E27, and made in a variety of colors, e.g. white, yellow, green, blue and red.
Led diodes are easy to install and are suitable for the lighting of corridors, for spot lighting of various interiors, and to serve as indicator lights. Thanks to their low overall demands, diodes save energy as well as maintenance and operation costs.
LED modules of various sizes and using various light sources are an integrated, compact system for advertising purposes replacing fluorescent lamps and other standard light sources.
