Based on Michael Connelly’s internationally best-selling Harry Bosch book series with nearly 50 million copies sold, Bosch stars Titus Welliver (Sons of Anarchy, Argo) as Harry Bosch, Jamie Hector (The Wire) as Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino (Being Human) as Lt. Grace Billets, Lance Reddick (Fringe, The Wire) as Deputy Chief Irvin Irving, and Annie Wersching (24, Extant) as Julia Brasher, with Sarah Clarke (24) as Eleanor Wish and Jason Gedrick (Luck) as Raynard Waits. The series follows the relentless LAPD homicide detective as he pursues the killer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court on accusations that he murdered a suspected killer in cold blood. Guest stars on Bosch include Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead) as Dr. Guyot and Troy Evans (ER) as Detective Johnson, and was developed for television by Eric Overmyer (Treme, The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Streets) and Executive Produced by Overmyer, Connelly, and Henrik Bastin (The Killing, Burn Notice). Primarily based on elements from Connelly’s books City of Bones (2002), The Concrete Blonde (1994) and Echo Park (2006), Harry Bosch’s investigation takes on a life and death urgency when a killer who has confessed to the boy’s murder escapes custody and begins a murderous rampage across Los Angeles. Bosch and the killer are locked in a cat and mouse game, with the killer taunting Bosch as the investigation turns deeply personal. The case unearths Bosch’s buried past as well as entangling his ex-wife and 14-year-old daughter. The season takes the viewer through back streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles rarely seen on-screen. There have been 19 Harry Bosch novels published since 1992, including 2014’s number-one bestseller The Burning Room.     Talking Through the Wire Jennifer Fremlin, Huntingdon College I am at something of a critical loss when it comes to discussing The Wire. As a feminist media theorist especially interested in filmic representations of race and gender, I am pretty well trained at deconstructing hegemonic instantiations of the privileging of whiteness in movies and on t.v., especially those that seem to offer themselves as radical critiques but end up simply reinscribing familiar hierarchies. Popular culture—hit t.v. programs, award-winning movies, Hollywood stars—offers an endless supply of material on which to hone my knife. This is mostly shooting fish in a barrel, instead of any great testament to my mad skills. But The Wire, HBO’s critically acclaimed yet apparently largely unwatched series, leaves me a bit flummoxed. The problem is, first, that I loved watching it, reveling in its intricate, almost Shakespearian or Dickensian handling of interwoven plots and themes of power and corruption at all levels: economic, political, juridical, educational, racial, journalistic and sexual. Characters are complex and multidimensional, revealed in their working and personal lives to be neither good or bad, but some of both, often at the same moment, or neither, just like the rest of us. They sometimes try to do the right thing, even if by dubious means, or make more money, or get laid, or help others, but just as often they fuck up, and their motives are a nice messy stew of righteousness and self-serving. The show solicits me as a smart viewer, which on the one hand I critically distrust, but on the other hand flatters me to no end.

    Rosso­Manoa­Nov. 2005­p. 1 Thirty Years After: American Vietnam War Literature in Italian Stefano Rosso (University of Bergamo) [email protected] (23.000 bytes, including notes and bibliography) It is well known that the American War in Vietnam had a great impact in Europe from 1966 up to the American withdrawal and the fall of Saigon. The Vietnam War triggered off an unprecedented anti­imperialist political awareness in Italy, too. Several books and essays on history and politics –some translated from English and French– 1 came out between the mid sixties and the early seventies and were the most important references on imperialism until the coup d’état against Salvador Allende and Chile’s legitimate government aided by the CIA in 1973. Seminars on the Vietnam War became frequent in schools and universities; newspapers and journals, not necessarily left­oriented, continued publishing articles critical of American intervention. The slogan “Yankees Go Home!”, chanted during the major Italian anti­imperialist mass demonstrations, came to mean only one thing: “Americans Get Out of Vietnam!” 2 In the publishing world, the so­called “Sessantotto”, the 1968 protest movement, was also characterized by the end of the “editori protagonisti” (protagonist publishers), such as Mondadori, Einaudi, Garzanti and, later, Feltrinelli, that is, the end of a long period – from the 1930s to the 1960s – dominated by a few publishers with a strong, articulated and recognizable cultural project involving intellectuals and thinkers. The late sixties saw, on the one hand, the birth of several small and very small publishers, and on the other, a strong process of concentration among the major companies.
