NEWS Contact: Janet Crystal Wilton Library Phone: (203) 762-3950 Ext. 226 Fax: (203) 834-1166 E-mail: [email protected] February 19, 2015 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jazz Guitarist Julian Lage at Wilton Library March 7 Wilton, CT – American jazz composer and guitarist Julian Lage performs in Wilton Library’s Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room concert on Saturday, March 7, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Often categorized as a jazz musician, his music is rooted in both traditional and acoustic forms. A child prodigy, Lage was the subject of a 1997 documentary, “Jules at Eight” and at age 13 performed at the 2000 Grammy Awards. Although asked often, he held off creating his own albums, performing instead as a sideman with others, including Hot & Cool performers Taylor Eigsti, Fred Hersch and Dayna Stephens. In 2009, Julian released his debut album, Sounding Point, which was nominated for the 2010 Grammy Award Best Contemporary Jazz Album. He has since created two more albums as a leader; the most recent is World’s Fair, a solo acoustic guitar project, which released this month. He has four albums to his credit as a co-leader with Chris Eldridge and others. In addition to his own quintet, he has recorded with with Gary Burton, David Grisman, Eric Harland, Anthony Wilson, Martin Taylor, Joshua Bell and Yoko Ono. Lage has played professionally with renowned artists such as Jim Hall, Mark O'Connor, Ambrose Akinmusire, Walter Smith III, Larry Grenadier, Béla Fleck, Antonio Sanchez, and Nels Cline, among others. His most recent duo album, “Free Flying” with Fred Hersch received a coveted 5 star review in Down Beat magazine. He classically trained at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studied at Sonoma State University, Ali Akbar College of Music and graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2008. He has been a faculty member at the Stanford Jazz Workshop at Stanford University since age 15. Formerly from the San Francisco Bay Area and having spent time in Boston, he now calls New York City home.
