Our team of experts in EAT and PTSD developed an eight-session group EAT treatment protocol for PTSD (EAT-PTSD) and administered it to two pilot groups of military veterans to assess initial effects. Materials and Methods: We describe the development of the treatment manual, which was used with two pilot groups of veterans. Protocol safety, feasibility, and acceptability were assessed by reported adverse events, treatment completion rates, and self-rated patient satisfaction. Preliminary data on PTSD, depressive, and anxiety symptoms and quality of life were collected pretreatment, midpoint, post-treatment, and at 3-month follow up. Results: No adverse events were recorded. All patients completed treatment, reporting high satisfaction. Preliminary data showed decreases in clinician-assessed PTSD and depressive symptoms from pre to post-treatment and follow-up (medium to large effect sizes, d = .54–1.8), with similar trends across self-report measures (d = 0.72–1.6).

Anne’s work focuses on how innovative governance of scientific research and technology development can achieve these goals, ultimately maximizing social benefit while minimizing risk. This perspective has led her to prioritize work on open innovation, particularly through crowdsourcing and citizen science; open data, including work on data governance; and, open technology development, like through processes like co-design and products like open source hardware. Anne’s PhD is from the University of Maryland’s College of Library and Information Science. Her dissertation explored how Floracaching, a gamified mobile application for biodiversity data collection, could be motivated to engage a university community in citizen science. She has led the Wilson Center’s participation in high-level policy projects, including BILAT 4.0, a European Commission-funded Coordination and Support Action initiated to advance transatlantic cooperation in science and technology innovation. Anne also leads the Wilson Center’s work on citizen science through initiatives like the UN-backed Citizen Science Global Partnership, and through Earth Challenge 2020, the world’s largest coordinated citizen science campaign to date. The answer is 874 year old Jedi Master Yoda. On May 25th, 1977 George Lucas and Steven Spielberg introduced the United States to Zen on a large scale through Jedi teachings. This was my first exposure to Zen Buddhism, and at the time I didn’t even realize that Yoda’s teachings were Zen. At the age of six my parents took me into a video store to look for movies to add to our collection. My father and I found our way into the Sci-Fi isle. I remember him looking at me as he picked up a gold and black box set of VHR’s with a black mask on it – I would soon find out that this was Darth Vader. The day that my father introduced me to Star Wars was the day that my life changed.
