Cinematographers create the visual mood and tone of the narrative. Directors tell the story, making the final decision about everything that appears on-screen. Together with the costume designer, this creative team makes a world – and the people in it – come alive. Scene Two of Hollywood Costume examines creative collaborations between costume designers, directors and actors. In this gallery, you will also see how costume designers work within specific contexts of production: cinematic genres, new technologies and censorship. The first gallery of the exhibition explored the perspective of the costume designer. This gallery is about the situations in which costume designers do their work. Collaborating with Directors The creative relationship between director and costume designer is an essential part of film-making. The four partnerships featured here are among the greatest collaborations in the history of Hollywood. Edith Head is the most famous costume designer of all time. Her career spanned the entire history of the Hollywood studio system, from her first film Wings in 1929 through 11 films designed for Alfred Hitchcock between 1946 and 1976. London-based Sandy Powell began her career working with Derek Jarman before going on to design costumes for such Hollywood directors as Martin Scorsese. Ann Roth has forged a creative partnership with director Mike Nichols over four decades, on both stage and screen. Colleen Atwood has been instrumental in realising Tim Burton’s artistic vision, creating costumes for Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood and Sweeney Todd.

The stories found in this report remind all of us that through the love we share, the Gospel faith still has the power to transform people’s lives. When our Holy Father met with some of the clients, staff and volunteers of Catholic Charities during his visit to Washington this year, he stressed that “Jesus wanted to show solidarity with every person. He wanted everyone to experience his companionship, his help, his love.” Thanks to your compassionate support, through Catholic Charities, our sisters and brothers in need are able to encounter that consolation and love of Christ every day. As a visible sign of Christ’s presence in the world today, this faith-filled ministry meets a myriad of material and spiritual needs in its 65 programs, including: housing, job training, legal aid, immigration and refugee assistance, mental health treatment, medical and dental care, life-long care for those with developmental disabilities, and food assistance, such as Saint Maria’s Meals, which served the lunch that was blessed during Pope Francis’ visit.

Bernt Using a coding instrument designed specifically for this study, the researcher analyzed the gender of Academy Award nominees and winners in all categories in which potential for direct competition between women and men existed. This study examined if there was gender discrepancy in terms of whose work was recognized in the film industry by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Data from 83 Academy Awards ceremonies honoring the films released from 1927 to 2010 yielded 1,471 cases that, when analyzed, supported the statement that more men than women have been nominated for, and winners of, Academy Awards in every category other than Costume Design. Examining the results by year of nominations, wins, and categories showed trends in the numbers of women and men nominees and winners.

Le selezioni del corso di Sartoria Teatrale si terranno presso la nostra Accademia in via S. Marta 18, Milano, indicativamente dal 27 settembre al 1 ottobre 2021. Dopo la chiusura delle iscrizioni, riceverai una mail con data e orario in cui presentarti. Le prove saranno articolate in 3 fasi distinte: la prima dedicata a due prove scritte, la seconda a una prova pratica e la terza dedicata a un colloquio motivazionale. I test scritti avranno la durata di 60 minuti cui seguirà la prova pratica della durata di 60 minuti max. Nei giorni immediatamente successivi sarai convocato per effettuare un colloquio individuale della durata di circa 20 minuti. L’Accademia è in una zona centrale di Milano, non molto distante da Piazza Duomo e dal Teatro alla Scala. È raggiungibile facilmente: le fermate della metropolitana più vicine sono Cordusio, Duomo e Missori.
