Es fällt in der Regel recht schwer, etwas wirklich Neues beim Herxheimer Sandbahnrennen an Christi Himmelfahrt zu finden, denn spektakuläre Rennen, ein riesiges Volksfest, volkstümliche Preise und die besten Sandbahnfahrer der Welt bietet die MSV Herxheim ihren Besuchern im Herxheimer Waldstadion traditionell am Vatertag. Der 29. Mai 2014 wird jedoch ein Novum bringen. Erstmals werden die besten Sandbahnfahrer der Welt an Christi Himmelfahrt im Herxheimer Waldstadion um Punkte für die Einzelweltmeisterschaft kämpfen. Die Langahnweltmeisterschaft 2014 wird mit insgesamt fünf Rennen, von denen jeweils zwei in Deutschland und Frankreich, sowie einem Rennen in den Niederlanden ausgetragen wird. Die MSV Herxheim hat sich nach Anpassungen am Reglement und den Austragungsbedingungen erfolgreich für einen WM-Lauf beworben. Unter anderem ist es nun möglich im Rahmenprogramm auch Seitenwagenrennen durchzuführen. Die Verantwortlichen des Weltverbandes FIM haben bereits mehrfach einen WM-Grand Prix zum Traditionstermin den Herxheimern angeboten. „Die Entscheidung an Christi Himmelfahrt einen Weltmeisterschaftslauf zu veranstalten, fiel nicht von heute auf morgen. Bereits in den ersten Jahren als die Langbahnweltmeisterschaft im Grand Prix System ausgetragen wurde, kam das Thema Weltmeisterschaft immer wieder auf. Da unsere Versuche einen Langbahn Grand Prix im Spätsommer zu veranstalten nicht wie gewünscht von den Zuschauern angenommen wurden fiel nach mehreren Gesprächen mit den Verantwortlichen des Weltverbandes der Entschluss eine Bewerbung für die Weltmeisterschaft zum Traditionstermin abzugeben“, berichtete Rennleiter Joachim Ohmer. Bei der Weltmeisterschaft gehen insgesamt 15 Fahrer je Veranstaltung ins Rennen und die Anzahl der Fahrer je Rennlauf reduziert sich dadurch auf fünf Fahrer. Jeder Fahrer bestreitet fünf Vorläufe aus denen die besten zehn Fahrer dann die Halbfinalläufe bestreiten. Nach diesen Läufen wird erneut gezählt und die fünf punktbesten Fahrer des Tages treten im Finallauf an um den Tagessieg unter sich auszumachen. Insgesamt werden also 18 Rennläufe an einem Finaltag absolviert, aus denen alle erfahrenen Punkte für die Fahrer in die Gesamtwertung zur Weltmeisterschaft eingehen werden. „Es gab einiges an Skepsis als der Weltverband die Anzahl der Fahrer je Rennlauf reduzierte. Es zeigte sich jedoch, dass die Fahrer den vorhandenen Platz auf der Bahn nutzten und die Rennläufe noch spannender wurden. Zudem sind alle WM Fahrer in der Lage einen Rennlauf bzw. einen Grand Prix zu gewinnen“, erklärt Manuel Wüst, Pressesprecher der MSVH. Mit von der Partie werden beim ersten von fünf Rennen zur Langbahnweltmeisterschaft 2014 auch zwei Clubfahrer der MSV Herxheim sein. Erik Riss, Sohn des erfolgreichsten Bahnsportlers Gerd Riss, qualifizierte sich im vergangenen Herbst mit einem Sieg beim Grand Prix Challenge für die Finalserie und wird ausgerechnet in Herxheim zum ersten Mal als permanenter WM Pilot ans Startband rollen und um Weltmeisterschaftspunkte kämpfen. Richard Speiser nimmt als zweiter Clubfahrer an der Weltmeisterschaft teil. Nach dem Vizeweltmeistertitel 2011 und einem verletzungsgeplagten WM-Jahr 2012 meldete sich der Allgäuer in der Langbahnweltmeisterschaft zurück. Er gewann den Deutschland Grand Prix 2013 in Vechta und wurde in der Gesamtwertung Achter. 116. Internationales Sandbahnrennen - Langbahn Weltmeisterschaft Finale 1 Mittwoch, 28. Ein prall gefüllter Rennkalender für die Bahnsportfans im Mekka des Bahnsports. Das die besten Sandbahnfahrer der Welt am Vatertag in Herxheim an den Start rollen ist nichts Neues, dass ein einzigartiges Volksfest das Herxheimer Sandbahnrennen zu etwas ganz besonderem macht ist nun wahrlich auch nichts Neues, dass es beim Sandbahnrennen am 29. Mai 2014 jedoch erstmals um Punkte zur Sandbahnweltmeisterschaft geht, stellt ein absolutes Novum dar und die Rennen auf der Sandbahn mit den zwei ungleichen Kurven dürften am Vatertag noch spektakulärer als in der Vergangenheit werden, denn jeder einzelne Punkt geht in die Wertung für die Weltmeisterschaft ein und so wird um jede Platzierung verbissen gekämpft werden. Im Rahmenprogramm des Sandbahnrennens, dass traditionell bereits Mittwochs startet werden auch alle nationalen Klassen zum Zuge kommen und im Rahmenprogramm des WM Rennens am Vatertag starten die internationalen Seitenwagen. Trotz der Ausrichtung eines Weltmeisterschaftsfinals am Vatertag bleibt die Motorsportvereinigung Herxheim bei ihrem Konzept und hält den Eintrittspreis für das Sandbahnrennen am Vatertag auf volkstümlichem Niveau! Zum gewohnten Eintrittspreis des vergangenen Jahres von 12€ für eine Stehplatzkarte wird lediglich ein WM- Zuschlag von 2€ erhoben. Die Ausrichtung der Weltmeisterschaft soll kein Anlass für eine generelle Preiserhöhung auf 14€ sein, denn der Zuschlag von 2€ auf den Eintrittspreis ist an die Ausrichtung eines Finallaufs zur Langbahnweltmeisterschaft gebunden. Nicht weniger Spektakulär dürften die Rennen auf der Speedwaybahn werden. Am 28.Juni werden an einem Samstagabend die besten U21 Teams Europas im Herxheimer Speedwayoval um den Titel fighten. Neben Gastgeber Deutschland sind die Speedwaymächte und ewigen Rivalen Dänemark und Polen bereits gesetzt und im Vorjahr lieferten sich diese beiden Nationen in allen Wettbewerben packende Fights bis aufs Letzte, sodass den Zuschauern mehrfach der Atem stocken könnte. Der vierte Teilnehmer des Rennens wird am 24. Mai beim Qualifikationsrennen in Tschechien ermittelt. Vom Jäger zum Gejagten wurden die Herxheim Drifters, die sich nach einer starken Saison 2013 den Titel in der zweiten Speedway Bundesliga sichern konnten. Spätestens mit dem Titelgewinn im Unterhaus der ersten Liga sind die Herxheim Drifters nun voll im Ligageschäft angekommen und werden nun auch von den etablierten Speedwayteams ernst genommen. Um das Ziel Titelverteidigung erfolgreich gestalten zu können ist es wichtig, beim Heimrennen am 21. September möglichst viele Punkte einzufahren. Wie bei allen bisher ausgetragenen Speedwayrennen kostet die Tribüne keinen separaten Zuschlag, sodass hier ein freier Zugang zu einem überdachten Sitzplatz besteht. Durch den Rückzug von Martin Smolinski (startet im Speedway Grand Prix), der als Neunter der Weltmeisterschaft 2013 qualifiziert gewesen wäre, wird zudem je Grand Prix Veranstaltung eine Tageswildcard vergeben. Zudem stehen Substitute Rider (Ersatzfahrer) parat, die ins Feld kommen, sobald sich einer der fest qualifizierten Fahrer oder gesetzten Fahrer verletzt. This resulted in eleven consecutive posters, which when mounted side by side, create a %foot mural. The timeline exhibits and describes the millstones of physics in images and words. The timeline functions as a chronology, a work of art, a permanent open textbook, and a gigantic photo album covering a hundred years in the life of the community of physicists and the existence of the American Physical Society . Each of the eleven posters begins with a brief essay that places a major scientific achievement of the decade in its historical context. Large portraits of the essays’ subjects include youthful photographs of Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, and Richard Feynman among others, to help put a face on science. Below the essays, a total of over 130 individual discoveries and inventions, explained in dated text boxes with accompanying images, form the backbone of the timeline. For ease of comprehension, this wealth of material is organized into five color- coded story lines the stretch horizontally across the hundred years of the 20th century. The revised 2020 FIM Speedway Grand Prix calendar will consist of eight rounds across four weekends, beginning on 28 August. Each night, riders will compete for the maximum 20 points and the full prize money amount per Grand Prix round. The FIM is working closely with BSI Speedway and local organisers to stage the events with restricted audience numbers to allow for social distancing, enhanced safety measures, and in accordance with local health and safety regulations. The revised 2020 Speedway Grand Prix Calendar, now taking place on Friday and Saturday evenings, is as follows: 28 - 29 August, Poland (Olympic Stadium, Wroclaw) 11 - 12 September, Poland (Edward Jancarz Stadium, Gorzow) 18 - 19 September, Czech Republic (Marketa Stadium, Prague) 2 October, TBC 3 October, Poland (Marian Rose Motoarena, Torun) This revised SGP calendar means that the 2020 Danish FIM Speedway Grand Prix, scheduled to take place on 12 September, is now cancelled. Following discussions with the promoter, we are however pleased to announce that the event will return on 11 September 2021.

    WORLD LONGTRACK FINALS 1971 – 1996 Tracy Holmes Pre 1971 Before we look at the first World Longtrack Final in 1971, we must take a peek at its prototype, the European Final. The first of these was held in 1957 and won by the Norwegian legend Leif "Basse" Hveem. The term 'legend' is often thrown about like confetti but in this case, it is well earned ! The next 3 Finals were all won by West Germany's Josef Hofmeister. No-one was ever able to achieve the 'Triple Crown' in the World Finals, but 2 riders did it in its forerunner. Hofmeister was joined by another West German, Manfred Poschenrieder winning in '66, '67 and '68. The closest anyone got in the World Final was England's Simon Wigg who won the Finals of '93 and '94, only to be beaten in the Gold Medal run-off in '95 by his England team-mate, Kelvin Tatum! Swedish riders excelled in the Euro Finals, 1954 World Speedway Final bronze medalist, Olle Nygren took the bronze in the '59 Final. Ove Fundin, reigning World Speedway Champion at the time, was 2nd in the '61 Final behind Timo Laine of Finland. Just over a week later, Fundin won his 3rd World Speedway Final. Bertil Strid was Sweden's first Euro Champion, winning the Finals of '62 and '63. The Swedes were interupted in '64 by Denmark's Kurt W. Petersen. On the 12th of September 1965, Swedish star Bjorn Knutson won the Euro Final. A week later, he won the World Speedway Final as well.
