The grant also enables local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs. “We are grateful for the swift approval of our request to ensure all resources are available to support the heroic work of our firefighters and first responders working to contain this fire and keep local communities safe,” said Governor Newsom. The Fire Management Assistance Grant will assist local, state and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75-percent reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs. The FMAG also enables local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs. The fire started October 23 and, so far, has burned more than 10,000 acres and more than 600 residences are threatened in the Red Hill and Geyserville area. Mandatory evacuations are taking place for approximately 1,300 people. “Cal OES continues to work closely with our federal, state and local partners to ensure there is resiliency for the communities affected by this fire,” said Mark Ghilarducci, Director of the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. “California is here and ready to support the local communities with any needs as they arises.” Cal OES Fire and Rescue, as well as Coastal Region personnel are currently responding in concert with other federal, state and local agencies to address emergency management and mutual aid needs for the incident. The critical fire weather has made an ideal environment for dangerous fire conditions throughout the region. Cal OES Fire and Rescue, Law Enforcement and Coastal personnel are currently working with other response agencies to address all emergency management, law enforcement, evacuation and mutual aid needs for the incident. The Cal OES Coastal Regional Emergency Operations Center (REOC) has also been activated to support emergency management operations. Cal OES is assisting to provide local mutual aid resources into the fire area. The federal Fire Management Assistance Grant, which is provided through the President’s Disaster Relief Fund on cost-share basis, will assist local, state and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75-percent reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs. Later today, Governor Newsom will travel to Sonoma County to survey areas impacted by the Kincade Fire and meet with emergency responders, residents, health officers and local and state officials. Yesterday, the Governor announced that the state has secured federal Fire Management Assistance Grants to help ensure the availability of resources to fight the Kincade and Tick fires and enable local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs. Yesterday, the Governor also held a public briefing in Los Angeles regarding the ongoing fire threats and the need to hold utilities accountable for the consequences of their decisions to shut off power for large portions of the state. The FMAG also enables local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs. The fire is also threatening 600 buildings and infrastructure to include an urgent care, schools and community center, as well as Edison power lines in the area.
