Conference games still tied after a five-minute 5-on-5 overtime advance to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime (and sudden victory shootout if still tied) with the team that wins the second overtime/shootout receiving an extra point in the standings (3/SW in the standings), making all games worth three (3) points. The 3-on-3 overtime and shootouts only affect conference standings, while the game is officially a tie for NCAA purposes. Two NCHC teams open NAIT at No. 14/15 Western Michigan (exh.), 7:05 p.m. ET regular-season play against non-conference foes as No. 2/2 Denver heads at No. 18 North Dakota (exh.), 7:07 p.m. CT north for two games at Saturday and Sunday, while Miami hosts at No. 1/1 Minnesota Duluth (exh.), 7:07 p.m.CT in-state rival No. 17 Bowling Green on Sunday. The other six NCHC teams Trinity Western at Colorado College (exh.), 6:07 p.m. MT host exhibition games between Saturday and Monday. Last season, NCHC No. 2/2 Denver at Alaska, 7:07 p.m. AT teams combined for a 52-25-8 record in regular-season non-conference play, with the .659 win percentage tops among the six Division I men’s Sunday, Oct. 6 hockey conferences.
