According to results from a public opinion poll conducted by the private Apoyo polling firm released Aug. 17, 65% of respondents expressed disapproval of actions taken by political parties since President 's dissolution of congress April 5. In contrast, 58% expressed approval of the actions taken by Fujimori's government during the period. Public disapproval was particularly high for the parties which governed during the 1980-1990 period, the Popular Action (Accion Popular-AP) and the American Popular Revolutionary Alliance (Alianza Popular Revolucionaria Americana-APRA). About 65% of respondents expressed disapproval of the AP party's actions, while 75% expressed disapproval with APRA. About 58% of those polled expressed disapproval with the actions of the Freedom Movement (Movimiento Libertad-ML), led by novelist , while 76% of respondents said they disapproved of the actions of the Christian Popular Party (Partido Popular Cristiano-PPC). In comparison, 38% of those surveyed expressed disapproval of the actions of Fujimori's Movement, while 46% said they approved of the party's actions. The actions of individual politicians since the "auto- golpe" were also heavily criticized. About 71% of respondents expressed disapproval of Mario Vargas Llosa; 62% expressed disapproval of former president and AP leader Fernando Belaunde; and 90% expressed disapproval of constitutional president Maximo San Roman. In contrast, 62% of respondents expressed support for President Fujimori while 28% said they were dissatisfied with him.
