PINEAPPLE HOTEL CUP E-FOOTY RECORD Round 6 E-Footy RECORD 9th - 10th May 2008 Issue 7 Editorial with Brian Douge AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS SHEPPARTON JULY 2008

The AFL Queensland, Australian Country Football campaign is on track to confi rm Queens- land’s arrival as a force in the AFL’s 150 celebratory year.

Several Queensland country regional games were held last weekend. Capricornia played Bun- daberg Wide Bay at the picturesque Boyne Island reserve, a combined Townsville/Mount Isa team hosted the talented AFL Mackay team and the State Association Division 3 team played AFL Darling Downs at Wilston Grange.

Queensland selectors were represented at each of the games and players were identifi ed for possible inclusion in the Queensland Country Stockman team. This team will also include up to eight ‘country of origin’ Queensland State League Division One players and other quality play- ers from the Pineapple Hotel Cup and the State Association competitions who have performed to a high standard, thus far, in the respective AFL Queensland club football competitions.

Stockman coach, Joe Hoolahan (AFL Townsville representative coach) and assistant coach, Mark Mooney (ex All-Australian country player and Queensland Country captain) will meet with the State selectors this week to select the Stockman team. The Stockman team will travel to Townsville for the fi nal State country team selection game against AFL Cairns (coach Nick Pur- cell) to be held as the curtain raiser to the Queensland versus Western Australian State game on Saturday 7 June.

The stocks of the AFL Cairns team will no doubt be bolstered by the inclusion of ‘Cairns of Ori- gin’ players currently playing in the State League and State Association competitions.

Stephen Daniel, State country coach and Paul Grentell, assistant coach will be in attendance at the Stockman versus Cairns game. In combination both men have a vast knowledge of the Queensland and Victorian football landscape and extensive experience in preparing teams for highly competitive contests.

AFL Queensland wishes the coaching staff, selectors, support staff and players all the best for their 2008 country football campaign.
