Friday 3 March 2017 FULL RACE TIMINGS UNVEILED FOR 2017 TOUR DE YORKSHIRE The highly anticipated race timings for the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire have been unveiled by Welcome to Yorkshire. Millions of spectators will line the route for the three-day men’s race and one-day women’s race which run between 28-30 April. The timings have been calculated by anticipating the peloton’s average speed but are subject to change depending on variables such as wind speed, direction and how aggressively the riders race. Timings for the newly expanded race caravan have also been included and list the stop off points where fans will be treated to a host of promotional goodies from the official race partners. Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive Sir Gary Verity said: “It’s always exciting to share these timings as supporters can now plan exactly where and when they want to watch the action. Every time I see them I’m astonished by how quickly the peloton travels, but these are the very best riders in the world after all! “Of course, there is a huge amount of added entertainment planned across the county over the full three days, and be sure to line the route early to see our colourful race caravan and fleet of Yorkshire cycling legends pass through.” The full schedule and race timings can be viewed online now at letour.yorkshire.com/timings In summary: Stage One: Friday 28 April – Bridlington to Scarborough, 173km (107.5 miles) The Stage of the Coast and Wolds will begin at 12:35pm outside Bridlington Spa and the first intermediate sprint will be contested in Pocklington at 13:48pm before the peloton tackle the Côte de Garrowby Hill at 14:06pm.

Friday 28 April 2017 Groenewegen wins opening stage at the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire History repeated itself at the Tour de Yorkshire with Dylan Groenewegen winning the opening stage for a second year in succession in sunny Scarborough. Huge crowds turned out in Bridlington to see the start of the third edition and bright conditions meant the county was at its brilliant best as the peloton wound its way through the Yorkshire Wolds and into the North York Moors before a frantic finish along North Bay in Scarborough. In total more than 400,000 people lined the roadside. Banners, bunting and a whole host of ingenious land art provided a brilliant backdrop as the riders toiled across the tough and testing parcours. An eight-man breakaway formed after 15km and Etienne Van Empel (Roompot), was the first of those riders to top the Côtes de Garrowby Hill and Goathland to earn himself a spell in the best climber’s jersey sponsored by Virgin Trains. The last escapees were finally caught with 8.3km to go, but before then the peloton had been split to shreds on the fearsome Côte de Robin Hood’s Bay. Groenewegen was one of several star sprinters to drop off the pace on that steep ascent but his LottoNL-Jumbo team-mates worked hard to bring him back into contention and the Dutch champion repaid that faith, just as he did in Settle last year. The 23 year old powered to the line and held off a late challenge from Orica-Scott’s Caleb Ewan once again for his first win of the season.

Start and Finish Locations for 2017 Tour De Yorkshire Announced
Tuesday 25 October 2016 START AND FINISH LOCATIONS FOR 2017 TOUR DE YORKSHIRE ANNOUNCED The six host towns for 2017 Tour de Yorkshire have been unveiled today. Racing for the third edition will begin or end in Bradford, Bridlington, Fox Valley (Sheffield), Harrogate, Scarborough and Tadcaster. Organisers Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.) revealed the chosen towns which will see the three-day men’s race held from Friday 28 April to Sunday 30 April. The women’s race will be held on Saturday 29 April. The second edition took place earlier this year and achieved significant growth on the back of an impressive debut in 2015. The number of roadside spectators increased from 1.5 to 2 million and the race attracted 11.4 million global TV viewers, up from 6 million in 2015. The event also boosted the local economy by £60 million and 2017 promises to continue that trend following the news that Yorkshire will host the UCI Road World Championships in 2019. Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “In just two years the Tour de Yorkshire has become one of the biggest and best races on the professional cycling calendar. Sunday 30 April 2017 One million roadside fans watch epic 2017 Tour de Yorkshire finale A record one million fans turned out to watch the epic finale to the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire which saw Serge Pauwels claim the stage and overall victory. Not since the 2014 Tour de France Grand Départ has Yorkshire experienced such a huge figure on a single day of racing, and that bumper crowd on Sunday helped ensure the third edition was officially the biggest one yet with overall attendances rising from 2 million to 2.2 million year on year. Entire communities turned out on the roadside to witness the peloton pass though as they traversed the 194.5km route from Bradford to Fox Valley, Sheffield, and each of the day’s eight categorised climbs were also packed with masses of cheering, colourful and enthusiastic fans. The parcours was also lined with incredible, eye-catching land art as pictures of Yorkshire were beamed to a record 180 countries globally. Spectators were treated to exciting action as well with Pauwels breaking clear on the tough concluding loop and he was joined by Dimension Data team-mate Omar Fraile before the race concluded in Stocksbridge. The duo then pressed home their advantage with Pauwels leading Fraile over the finish line to seal the biggest victory of his career and a 1-2 for his team who also topped the Doncaster Sheffield Airport and FlyBe Team Classification. Jonathan Hivert (Direct Énergie) rounded out the podium six seconds later. Those same three riders also claimed the top three positions on the General Classification with Pauwels taking the blue leader’s jersey sponsored by Welcome to Yorkshire.

Thursday 27 April 2017 Ewan aiming to fire at the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire Caleb Ewan is looking forward to making his return to racing at the Tour de Yorkshire on Friday and is hoping to produce a stellar performance as he heads into a key phase of the season. The Orica-Scott rider is regarded as one of the world’s best sprinters with six wins under his belt already this year, and is targeting Saturday’s stage from Tadcaster to Harrogate in particular given its sprint-friendly characteristics. The 22-year-old Australian will be extra motivated to prosper as well after being narrowly denied victory by Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) on the opening stage into Settle last season. The Tour de Yorkshire will be Ewan’s first race since completing the single-day Ghent- Wevelgem last month and he is hoping to sharpen his condition before taking part in the Giro d’Italia – one of cycling’s three Grand Tours – which starts in Sardinia on Friday 5 May. He said: “I’m feeling good for the Tour de Yorkshire. Having not raced in a month there is always a little bit of an unknown in terms of racing form, but I feel good in training and I'm hoping to feel good throughout the race. “I’ll be using the Tour to hone my condition ahead of the Giro d’Italia, but getting a win in Yorkshire is very important for me, for my confidence, and also for the team. It’ll be a perfect way to finish my preparations.” Ewan was hugely impressed when he rode the Tour de Yorkshire last season and is expecting a tough three days to come.

Tuesday 18 April 2017 Star Riders Announced for 2017 Tour de Yorkshire and Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire Race organisers Welcome to Yorkshire and A.S.O have announced a host of big-name riders for the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire, with Luke Rowe, Nacer Bouhanni and Caleb Ewan among those set to compete. Welshman Rowe, who has been part of the last two Tour de France wins, will be joined in a strong Team Sky line up by Olympic Gold Medallist Owain Doull and 2016 World Track Champion Jonathan Dibben. Bouhanni, one of the world’s top sprinters who has five Grand Tour stage wins to his name and has already claimed the Nokere Koerse and Paris–Camembert titles this season, will head up the Cofidis Solutions Credits team while fellow star sprinter Caleb Ewan leads the Orica- Scott charge in a squad that also includes 2016 Paris-Roubaix winner Mathew Hayman. Soldiers who helped in Tadcaster floods return to celebrate Tour de Yorkshire With exactly a month until the start of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire and Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire, it has been confirmed soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment who helped Tadcaster in the floods will return to help the town celebrate as the race passes over the newly rebuilt bridge. Tadcaster bridge was closed for more than a year after being severely damaged by flood water on Boxing Day 2015, splitting the town in two. On Saturday 29 March the bridge will see huge celebrations as the riders of both the men’s and women’s races will set off in a ceremonial start. Ahead of the riders will be the Yorkshire Regiment Drums Platoon many of whom were deployed to help with the state of emergency caused when the bridge started to collapse. It’s a hugely important year for the Yorkshire Regiment as in August 400 soldiers will head to Afghanistan for an eight-month tour where they will support NATO in training and protecting Afghan soldiers and police officers in Kabul. Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Sir Gary Verity said: “We’re incredibly proud to have the Yorkshire regiment out on Tadcaster bridge ahead of both the Tour de Yorkshire men’s and Asda women’s races. They bravely head out to Afghanistan later this year, but their deployment during the floods is a reminder of what they do at home as well. North Yorkshire County Council Executive Member 4 March 2016 Tour de Yorkshire Update Report of the Assistant Director – Highways & Transportation The appendices to this report contains information of the type defined in paragraph 3 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A Local Government Act 1972 (as amended). 1.0 Purpose of report 1.1 The purpose of the report is: i) To update on the preparations for the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire in North Yorkshire between 29th April – 1st May 2016 ii) To seek authorisation for the use of underspend from the Tour de France 2014 budget to fund the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire iii) To seek authorisation to enter in to a legal agreement with Welcome to Yorkshire and Amaury Sport Organisation for the delivery of the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire. 2.0 Background 2.1 Building on the success of the 2014 Tour de France Grand Départ and inaugural Tour de Yorkshire 2015, the second edition of the Tour de Yorkshire will take place this year. The race is a joint venture between Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) and Welcome to Yorkshire (WTY), supported by British Cycling. 2.2 The 2016 edition will be held on 29 April to 1 May 2016. It is expected to reinforce the race as one of the flagship cycling events in the UK and as an outstanding cycle race in the international calendar, including the participation of top international teams and cycling stars. 2.3 The 2015 edition was recognised as a great success for the region and North Yorkshire in particular, with hundreds of thousands of spectators lining the County’s roads to watch the race, which was broadcast to over 120 countries worldwide.

FULL ROUTE FOR 2017 TOUR DE YORKSHIRE ANNOUNCED The full route for the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire has been unveiled at the Impressions Gallery in Bradford. Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive Sir Gary Verity led a packed press conference on Friday morning with the Amaury Sport Organisation’s Tour de France Director Christian Prudhomme. Scott Thwaites was one of many star riders in attendance along with Yorkshire cycling legends such as Brian Robinson, Malcolm Elliott and Denise Burton-Cole. The third edition of the race takes place between 28-30 April 2017. It encompasses all four corners of the county and takes in Yorkshire’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites at Fountains Abbey and Saltaire: STAGE ONE: 173km –THE COAST AND WOLDS BRIDLINGTON TO SCARBOROUGH Friday 28 April The race takes the peloton from the coast through the Yorkshire Wolds, starting outside the refurbished Bridlington Spa and heading into Pocklington for the first intermediate sprint. The classified climbs up the Côtes de Garrowby Hill and Goathland will get the legs pumping before the race hits the coastline again at Whitby where the riders will get a great view of the world-famous Abbey as they contest the second sprint of the day. The route continues on to Robin Hood’s Bay for the third and final climb and then it’s full steam into Scarborough for the now-legendary finish along North Bay. STAGE TWO: 122.5km – HISTORIC MARKET TOWNS TADCASTER TO HARROGATE Saturday 29 April Starting on Tadcaster bridge - which will be newly reopened following flood damage last Boxing Day - this stage takes the riders through some of Yorkshire’s finest market towns.
