The cover of Mobile Phone containing Cash Rs. 6000/- and No. Phone of is 84378- 54361. She try to chase the accused, when she reach near Badri Nath Hospital one of the accused hit her. Due to which she fell down and got injured and the accused fled away. Later Passerby’s admitted her to Kartar Memorial Hospital where she is under treatment. 16. Mann: Sources for Study 229 Sources for the Study of Guru Gobind Singh's Life and Times Gurinder Singh Mann University of California, Santa Barbara ___________________________________________________________ This essay surveys the sites, artifacts, and literary texts associated with Guru Gobind Singh's period (1675-1708). In the process, it introduces a set of sources of information as well as attempts at reorientation of the context that produced them. In a brief conclusion, the essay highlights the need for expanding and revising the current understanding of the Guru's life. ___________________________________________________________ The present day understanding of Guru Gobind Singh's life is constructed around three landmarks: his birth in Patna in eastern India, in 1666; his creation of the Khalsa ("Community of the Pure") at Anandpur, in the Punjab hills, in 1699; and his replacement of the office of the personal Guru with the Granth, the Sikh scripture, thereby elevating it to the position of the Guru Granth ("Book manifested as the Guru") at the time of his death, in Nanderh in south India, in 1708.1 The details that fill in the forty-two years of the Guru's life are culled from a variety of texts, which begin with the Dasam Granth ("the tenth book" or "book of the tenth [Guru]"), an anthology of poetry created largely between 1685 to 1698, and Sri Gur Sobha ("Praise of the Guru"), a poetic history of the period presently dated in 1711, and include eighteenth and nineteenth century writings culminating in Giani Gian Singh's synthetic narrative, Tvarikh Guru Khalsa ("History of the Guru Community"), completed in 1891.2 (For a brief review of this chronology of events see Appendix).

About two- thirds of state’s total population (66.05 per cent) and 70 per cent of the work force live in rural areas as per Population Census of 2001. About two-fifth of state income originates in the agriculture and allied activities. However, education base of the rural people is very weak and fragile. The literacy rate in rural areas is also very low (65 per cent) compared to urban literacy rate (79 per cent). Although the agricultural led growth has improved the living conditions of rural people, yet a big socio-economic gap exists with regard to the availability of public services, infrastructural facilities, and employment opportunities between the rural and urban people. For instance, people living in cities/towns have access to better schools and colleges, better teachers and without any vacant post, better transport and communication means, better income earning opportunities, etc. Contrary to it, villagers as such are either deprived of better facilities or have to be contended with less efficient ones. They have become disillusioned, especially with their wards’ educational facilities and attainments. Their children have lagged behind both in terms of vertical and horizontal mobility of occupations than that of their urban counterparts. As such, they are unable to compete with the urbanites on the basis of merit.
