NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTES • Florida State has posted 17 wins in the NCAA Tournament since making its first appearance on Dec. 7, 1983 against No. 13 Tennessee under head coach Cecile Reynaud. • The first victory in the postseason tournament came against DePaul on Dec. 1, 1993, when the Seminoles won 3-1. • The first time that the Seminoles won multiple matches in the NCAA Tournament came in 2009, when Florida State reached the Elite Eight following victories against Alabama A&M, Jacksonville State and Kentucky in succession. • The school’s first Final Four appearance came in 2011 when Chris Poole guided the Seminoles to victories against Albany, Cincinnati, Pur- due and Iowa State en route to a showdown with perennial power UCLA. • Florida State has posted multiple NCAA Tournament victories on four occasions (number in parentheses indicates wins): 2009 (3); 2011 (4); 2013 (2); 2014 (2).

Seminoles.com 29 Matches 29 - 30 // ncaa first and second rounds HEAD COACH chris poole E l e v e n t h S e a s o n • A r k a n s a s T e c h (‘83) Entering his eleventh year at Florida State, head coach Chris Poole has established the Seminoles as fixture in the American Volleyball Coaches As- sociation (AVCA) Top-25 and among the elite programs in the nation, as he has rejuvenated a program that has proven itself as a national contender year in and year out. In his tenure, Poole has led the Seminoles to nine consecutive NCAA Tour- nament appearances, making FSU one of only 12 programs in the nation to accomplish the feat. The team has been ranked in the AVCA Top-15 at some point over the last nine seasons, and has defeated 26 AVCA Top-25 programs since his arrival. Since the beginning of the 2009 season, when Poole began overseeing the scheduling process, the Seminoles have gone head-to-head with 16 dif- ferent non-conference opponents that were ranked in the top 25 of the AVCA polls in the regular season. Since his arrival at FSU, the Seminoles have seen 45 contests against Top-25 teams. By facing those upper echelon programs, Poole has established Florida State’s schedule as one of the most difficult in the nation for the last seven years. Poole has led the Seminoles to three ACC Championships and four confer- ence runner-up finishes. FSU has now made two NCAA Tournament Second Round appearances, and has made it to the Sweet Sixteen three times, as well as one visit to the Elite Eight and one Final Four finish. For his squad’s multiple successes, Poole garnered ACC Coach of the Year and AVCA Division I East Region Coach of the Year honors in both 2009 and 2011. Poole is the fifth winningest active Division I Poole has coached 15 different All-Americans, with 21 honors since 2009. 5 coach in the NCAA with 824 career victories. Brianna Barry became the first Seminole to ever be named the ACC’s Player of the Year and she also garnered AVCA Division I Second-Team All-American honors.
