The philatelic associations of Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia have long collaborated, even beyond 2011, to popularize stamp collecting in their respective countries, bringing it on par with international standards. Thailand received the honor to hold the Tri-Nation Stamp Exhibition for the first time in Chiang Mai in 2011, with Singapore playing host to this event the following year. Subsequently, in 2013 the last Tri-Nation Stamp Exhibition was organized by Malaysia before the Indonesian Philatelists Association, the fourth member, joined in and agreed to host the first ever Four- Nation Stamp Exhibition at Bandung in 2014. Since then, the Tri-Nation Stamp Exhibition has thus been renamed the “Four- Nation Stamp Exhibition”. Taking place last year was the 2nd Four-Nation Stamp Exhibition (Malaysia 2015) hosted by Malaysia from December 4 to 6 at the Dataran Pahlawan Mega Mall, Malacca, under the slogan “Friendship through Philately”. The opening ceremony of Malaysia 2015 on December 4 featured a simple, relaxed and friendship filled atmosphere. Both Mr Tay Peng Hian (FIP President) and Mr Surajit Gongvatana (FIAP President) also visited the Exhibition. The inviting exhibition showcased a total of approximately 200 entries by contestants from different countries. A large number of visitors delighted in browsing through a wide selection of postage stamps and collectible items offered by postal services of member countries as well as private dealers, while enjoying a range of engaging activities. Such thrills and the enthusiasm of attendees throughout the three-day event was indeed a promising sign for the field of philately. The evening of December 5, or the Palmares Night, was the most important moment of this celebratory event as it featured the announcement of awards and the presentation ceremony. The evening started off with a welcoming remark delivered by the Chair of the ceremony, Dato Anuar Bashah. He also spoke about accomplishing the goals and objectives of holding the exhibition and later extended his gratitude to all participating philatelic associations of every member country. Finally, he handed souvenirs to the jurors and delegates of each country, before presenting award medals to the winners. This was followed by the presentation of the “Best Novice Exhibit” Award, which was offered to the exceptional exhibit by a first-time exhibitor. Mr. Choon Koshapasharin achieved the award with his masterpiece titled “Dutch East Indies: The China Connection; A Study of Chinese Postal History, 1858-1949”. The final award at the Palmares was the “Best in Show” Award, which was presented to the exhibit titled “World War I Siamese Postal History” by Mr. Charnchai Karnasuta, another Thai winner of the two great prizes in the contest. The finale of the Palmares was marked by the handover ceremony, where the flag was passed to the representatives of the Association of Singapore Philatelists, the next host of the Four-Nation Stamp Exhibition. As for Thailand’s participation, the P.A.T. appointed Mr. Prakit Foongvanich and Mr. Jenwit Apichainunt to serve as jurors, while Mr. Samart Waysuwan was the country’s commissioner who proudly carried 11 exhibits, amounting to 50 frames, by P.A.T. members to be on display at the philatelic exhibition. - 3 - FFIIAAPP NNEEWWSS ISSUE NO 40 (FEBRUARY 2016) HONG KONG 2015 (31st Asian International Stamp Exhibition) 20 – 23 November 2015 GRAND PRIX D’HONNEUR GRAND PRIX INTERNATIONAL Mr Prakit Foongvanich (Thailand) Mr Akihiko Koiwa (Japan) Title of Exhibit – Thailand: King Vajiravudh Rama VI and King Prajadhipok Rama VII Title of Exhibit – Indian Campaigns with Mr Michael Ho (right), FIAP Honorary Member Commissioners submitting exhibits at bin room Mounting of exhibits from Australia – Mr & Mrs Glen Stafford GRAND PRIX NATIONAL Mr Tony Kwan To-wah (Hong Kong) Title of Exhibit – China: Empress Dowager Jubilee and its surcharged issues with Mr William Kwan (left), President of Hong Kong Philatelic Society and Mrs Tony Kwan (right) Queues to Exhibition Hall - 4 - FFIIAAPP NNEEWWSS ISSUE NO 40 (FEBRUARY 2016) HONG KONG 2015 (31st Asian International Stamp Exhibition) Opening Ceremony (From left) Mr Surajit Gongvatana (FIAP President), Mr William Kwan (President of Hong Kong Philatelic Society), Mrs Jessie Ting (Postmaster General of Hong Kong Post) and Dr Prakob Chirakiti (FIAP Co-ordinator for Hong Kong 2015) Exhibition Hall Handover of FIAP flag from Hong Kong 2015 to Thailand 2016 (32nd Asia International Stamp Exhibition) (From left) Messrs Albert Lai, Stephen Chan, Daniel Szeto, Andrew Cheung, William Kwan, Surajit Gongvatana, Dato Anuar Bashah, Prakob Chirakiti, Pichai Buranasombati, Charnchai Karnasuta and Kajohnpol Buranasombati (Back row from left) Messrs Prakit Dato Anuar Bashah Foongvanich and Phairot Jiraprasertkun FIAP Co-ordinator for THAILAND 2016 Congratulations to Mr Prakit Foongvanich, Grand Prix D’Honneur of Hong Kong 2015 (Front row from left) Messrs Kajohnpol Buranasomati, Pichai Buranasombati, Surajit Gongvatana and Prakit Foongvanich (Back row from left) Messrs Charnchai Karnasuta, Prakob Chirakiti and Phairot Jiraprasertkun - 5 - FFIIAAPP NNEEWWSS ISSUE NO 40 (FEBRUARY 2016) CHINA 2016 – 33RD ASIAN INTERNATIONAL STAMP EXHIBITION The All China Philatelic Federation will be holding the 33rd Asian International Stamp Exhibition “CHINA 2016” under the Patronage of FIAP and the Recognition of FIP from 2 to 6 December 2016 in Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China.
