As part of the preparations for the 2015 General Elections, the Commission has demonstrated its commitment to informing stakeholders and the general public through a range of activities, and engagements with different strata of society with the aim of fostering confidence and participation in the continuing effort to build an enduring democratic culture. To increase eligible citizens’ participation in exercising their franchise, polling units within, or very close to the premises of politicians, traditional rulers, religious bodies, state and local authorities, private properties, etc., as well as in open spaces, are relocated to public buildings, preferably public schools. Thus, the publication of the 2015 Polling Unit Directory (updated January 2015) by the Commission is another step towards providing valid information to the stakeholders and the public alike. The Directory lists the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of each State or Area Councils (ACs) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Registration Areas (RAs) of States or Wards of the FCT, as well as polling units contained therein. This Directory wiII not only help to address the Polling Unit information needs of political parties, developmental partners, Civil Society Organizations, Ministries, Departments, Agencies, the Press and other Stakeholders, but also serve as a reference document for research and information. This publication is also designed to help electoral officials irrespective of where they are deployed to effectively perform their duties. I hope that the Directory will also help to influence and educate election officials in the administration of elections in the country. Prof. Attahiru M. The decision by the Commission was taken in its efforts to further ensure transparency in the electoral process and provide a level playing field for free and fair elections that are credible and acceptable to all. The Delimitation Division of the Electoral Operations Department has worked very hard, together with the Electoral Operations Departments of each of the thirty-six (36) States and the Federal Capital Territory, to significantly improve the accuracy of this Directory. The Commission would like to express its profound gratitude to the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) as well as the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia for providing technical assistance, through the provision of a specialist in Geographic Information System (GIS) and Data Management, Mr. Archie A.A. Delaney, Sr., who played a major role in the successful completion of this project. The fact that the Directory was generated from the Delimitation Database being constructed is very significant and signals a paradigm shift in the way the Commission undertakes its major activities. The study was carried out with the aim of determining the subsurface layer parameters (conductivity, resistivity, and thickness) and thereby ascertains the groundwater potential thereof. With the Omega resistivity meter a total of two (2) VES (Ves 1 and Ves 2) study was done with AB/2 covering a predetermined distance of 500meter. From the quantitative interpretation of the VES data(with computer iterative method) enabled the characterization of eight(8) geo-electric layers made up of dry top sand, sandy clay, sandstone and a high resistive dry sand, covering a total depth of (178.30 - 178.71) m. From the study, it is evident that finding ground water in the study area is in the upper aquifer which is shallow and may not be too prolific in terms of water accumulation and yield.

It exposes humanity and many socio-ecological systems to various levels of risks. In Nigeria, extreme rainfall events and poor drainage system have caused inundation of several settlements to flooding. To contain the disaster, risk mapping were among the measures recommended. Aims: The aim of this paper is to highlight flood risk zones (FRZ) in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area (LGA), Edo State, Nigeria. Methodology: Flood risk (FR) was mapped using hazards and vulnerability and implemented using geographic information system (GIS)-based multi-criteria analysis analytic hierarchy process (MCA-AHP) framework by incorporating seven environmental and two socio-economic factors. Elevation, flow accumulation, soil water index of wettest quarter, normalized difference vegetation index, rainfall of wettest quarter, runoff of wettest quarter and distance from rivers constituted the hazard component while population density and area of agricultural land use was the vulnerability layer. The climate change induced flood risk was validated using the responses of 150 residents in high, moderate and low flood risk zones. Results: The resulting flood risk map indicated that about 40.4% of Uhunmwonde LGA fell within high flood risk zone, 35.3% was categorized under moderate flood risk zone whereas low flood risk zone extended up to about 24.3% of the LGA.

    KUNST&KONTEXT 1/2017 FÄLSCHUNG - KOPIE - VERFÄLSCHUNG - ALTERUNG 23 Die Rückgabeforderung des Oba Akenzua II einen sehr frühen und komplexen Fall aus dem Jahr 1935 nachvollziehbar machen. Es handelt sich um zwei Thron- Hocker aus dem Königreich Benin, die bei der Eroberung durch eine englische Strafexpedition im Jahr 1897 als Teil der Kriegsbeute das Land verließen (Abb. 3). Die beiden Bronze-Hocker (Abb. 1, 2) haben ähnliche Maße und einen fast gleichen Auf bau: Sockel und Sitzfläche sind leicht gerundet und durch stilisierte Schlangen verbun- den. Einige Motive finden sich auf beiden Hockern, z. B. ein Frosch und ein grimassierendes Gesicht; allerdings ist der eine (Abb. 1) reicher ornamentiert. Die Schlangen- körper im zentralen Bereich sind mit Schuppen darge- stellt und die Symbole (als Relief oder Gravur) befinden sich auf den Unter- und Oberseiten der Sitzflächen und der Sockel. Irwin Tunis hat 1981 in seiner Studie zu den beiden Objekten deren Material, ihre Herkunft und die Ikonographie ausführlich beschrieben. Außerdem hat Otto Werner 1970 in einem Artikel seine Analyseergebnisse der Legierung der beiden Thron-Hocker (sowie 152 weiterer Benin-Bronze) publiziert. O.3 1,2,3Department of Civil Engineering, University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria Corresponding Author: *[email protected] ABSTRACT Gully erosion is a serious ecological problem in Edo State and has negative impact on agricultural productivity, lives and properties in both urban and rural environments. This paper therefore aims at identifying factors contributing to the formation of gullies and methods of controlling them so that further environmental degradation would be averted. Three gully sites were selected from the three geo-political zones of the State. Data were collected through remote sensing, field topographical survey and soil sampling on gully walls and gully beds. Meteorological and hydrological data were also collected. Slope stability analysis was also carried out. The Kerby- Kirpich equation was applied to estimate the overall time of concentration and Rational formula used to determine the peak discharge. The study revealed that the selected study areas possess all the characteristics of an erosion prone area which are: rainfall of very high intensity, steep slopes resulting in large runoff and soil with low organic content and relatively low shear strength obtained from the geotechnical investigations. Results from the studies revealed that the gully width and depth varied considerably from top to bottom. The cross section shows that the gully is U- shaped for Ekehuan gully and V-shaped for Auchi and Ewu gullies, indicating a large catchment area and a large volume of discharge passing through the gully.
