Address, stating particulars, THE VICAR, Longpreston, Leeds. 25-5-1872 CP LONG PRESTON A Band of Hope Demonstration was held on Saturday, which proved very gratifying to those who are desirous to see the cause of temperance progress. This being the first demonstration, about 200 members headed by the Rathmell Brass Band paraded the village, to the Mechanics’ Hall where they were provided with an excellent tea. Afterwards various athletic sports were indulged in. A public meeting was held in the evening, presided over by the Rev. G. W. Giddins, where addresses were given by the Rev. W. Gray and Messrs. Dixon, Harger and Leach. 11-6-1881 CHWS FUNERAL SESSION — On Sunday evening last a sermon was preached in the Wesleyan Chapel by the Rev. H. Padgham in memory of the late Miss Jane Procter, of the village. The Rev. Gentleman founded his discourse on Rev. X1V, 13 and in the course of his sermon mentioned the life-long devotion of the deceased to the cause of Wesleyan Methodism. For over 30 years Miss Procter had been earnestly engaged in the work. Her remains were iterred the day previously in the Parish Churchyard, the service being conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. J.E.Coulson , M..A., and the Rev. H. Padgham, Wesleyan Minister. The Vicar, with great liberality, offered Mr. Padgham a part of the service in the church, as well as at the grave, and the rev. Gentleman read the beautiful portion of Scripture appointed for the service, and also shared in the service at the grave-side. Some yearsago also the Vicar assisted in the funeral obsequies of the Rev.J. The Rev Mr. Laish (for fourteen years a missionary in Tunnevelly, India), was the preacher and his sermons were directed to show the work and claims of the society. Wildbore on behalf of the above society. Collections were made at both services; total amount £5 16s. 9-6-1893 CHWS THE ANNIVERSARY of the Wesleyan Sunday School was held on Sunday, afternoon and evening services being conducted by the Rev J. W. Booth, of Liverpool. In the afternoon the choir sang the anthem, “Thine, O Lord, is the greatness,” and in the evening “I will Magnify,” in addition to special hymns.
