Jeremy is taking the good and bad that comes with his past band experiences and giving his fans all of him through his new solo project. Our Webzine recently had an opportunity to speak with the artist about his music and life as a solo artist. Here is what developed. Enjoy! Isaac: I just listened to several songs off your new EP/CD. What was the inspiration for making your new album? Jeremy: Hi Isaac. The record came about after a year of playing and writing by myself and for myself outside of the context of a band. When The OffRamps were coming to an end in late 2008, I started playing some solo-acoustic shows. Then last year, I did a little bit of touring and realized that not only did I have a bunch of new songs without a home, but a record would be a great vehicle to play more shows and connect with more people. Isaac: Who were your influences? Jeremy: When I was really young, I would go Jeremy Porter through my parent's records and listen to stuff like The Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys and Dylan. Then I heard KISS, and shortly thereafter came Cheap Trick and The Knack. A few years later I heard bands like The Clash, The Replacements and Social Distortion and everything changed. -

Rolling Stone called it the ultimate 70s teen anthem, and included it in their list of the greatest songs of all time. It’s been in a bunch of movies and tv shows - including South Park, Scrubs, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, New Girl, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Cheap Trick formed in Rockford, Illinois in 1973. They’ve released 20 studio albums, they’ve sold over 20 million records, and in 2016 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rick Nielsen is the guitarist in the band. "Cheap Trick at Budokan" (Album)
"Cheap Trick at Budokan"--Cheap Trick (1978) Added to the National Registry: 2019 Essay by Robert Lawson (guest post)* Cheap Trick At the end of April 1978, Cheap Trick flew to Japan for a six-date headlining tour. To coincide with this, the forthcoming studio album, "Heaven Tonight," was issued in Japan just ahead of its US release. Cheap Trick played shows in Fukuoka (April 25th), Nagoya (April 26th), Osaka (April 27th), Tokyo (April 28th and 30th) and Shizuoka (May 1st). The near- hysterical Japanese fans welcomed the band with rapturous applause. A special tour-book was created, using the exact same picture of lead vocalist Robin Zander and bassist Tom Petersson featured on the "Heaven Tonight" sleeve, but with the title "Concert in Japan" on the front cover. In July, an edited version of the first concert in Tokyo was shown on Japanese TV. The program, "Cheap Trick at Budokan," featured footage from the soundcheck, tracked the eager crowds filing in, and, eventually, followed the band onto the stage. With Zander positively glowing in an all-white three-piece suit and guitarist Rick Nielsen slashing away at his Hamer Standard prototype, the performance is an equal display of incredible showmanship and musicianship. Although all the footage is extremely valuable (and was even more so at the time), it is extra special to witness the previously unreleased, excellent tracks "Lookout" and "Can't Hold On" performed live, along with the 1955 Fats Domino hit "Ain't That a Shame" (which the band learned from John Lennon's 1975 "Rock 'n' Roll" album). -

BY IRA ROBBINS t’s the start of 1977, my early days as a rock writer, and I’m up in Black Rock, visiting one of the few label guys who’ll take my calls. A devout fan of Marc Bolan, David Bowie, and Jim Morrison, he Iabsolutely loathes the Who, so we’ve agreed to disagree about that. He pulls out a white label of Cheap Trick, which Epic is weeks away from releasing. “Listen,” he says, exuding real conviction – no mean feat for a man who is as sardonic as they come. “These guys are great. They’re gonna be enormous.” I’m pretty dubious about main- stream American rock & roll, at least as represented in the hallway outside by posters of Ted Nugent, Kansas, Wild Cherry, and Meat Loaf, but I try not to roll my eyes. 19 He puts the record on, guitars and drums roar to life, and animation and spirited irreverence as the new wavers.
