STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 1970 No. 1680 REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE REDISTRIBUTION OF SEATS The Parliamentary Constituencies (Scotland) Order 1970 Laid before Parliament in draft Made 11th November 1970 Coming into Operation 25th November 1970 At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 11th day of November 1970 Present The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council Whereas under section 2(1) of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act ] 949(a) the Boundary Commission for Scotland have submitted to the Secretary of State a report dated 24th April 1969, showing the constituencies into which they recommend, in accordance with the provisions of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Acts 1949 and 1958(b), that Scotland should be divided: And whereas the Secretary of State has laid the said report before Parliament together with the draft ofthis Order in Council to give effect to recommendations contained in the report and each House of Parliament has by resolution approved the said draft: Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act 1949 and of all other powers enabling her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered as follows: 1.-(1)This Order may be cited as the Parliamentary Constituencies (Scotland) Order 1970. (2) The Interpretation Act 1889(c) shall apply to the interpretation of this Order as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament. (3) This Order shall come into operation on the fourteenth day after the day on which it is made. (a) 1949 c. 66. (b) 1958 c. 26 (c) 1889 c. 63. Provided that the coming into operation ofthis Order shall notilffectll.ny parliamentary election until a proclamation is issued by Her Majesty summoning a new Parliament or affect the constitution of the House of Comlllonsuntil the dissolution of the Parliament in being on the day on which this Order comes into operation. 2. For the constituencies described in Schedule 1 to the Representation of the People Act 1948(a) or in Orders made under the Hquseof Commons (Redistri bution of Seats) Act 1949, as the case may be, and specified in" Part I of the Schedule to this Order, there shall be substituted.th~ constituencies described in Part II of the Schedule to this Order, the constituencies In the said Part II being described by reference to the circumstances as they existed on 1st J~nuary)969. 3. The electoral registration officers for the aforesaid constituencies shall make such re-arrangement or adaptation of the registers of parliamentary electors as may be necessary to give effect to this Order. Central Ayrshire (1) The burghs of Irvine, Kilwinning, Stewarton and Troon; (2) the districts ofIrvine and Kilbirnie; (3) the electoral division of Dundonald in the district of Ayr and the electoral division of Dunlop and Stewarton in the district of Kilmarnock. Kilmarnock (1) The burghs of Kilmarnock, Darvel, Galston and Newmilns and Greenholm; (2) the district of Newmilns and the district of Kilmar nock except in so far as included in the Central Ayrshire constituency. West Dunbartonshire (1) The burghs of Dumbarton, Cove and KiIcreggan and Helensburgh; (2) the districts of Helensburgh, Old Kilpatrick and Vale of Leven. FIFE (a) County Constituencies East Fife The burghs of Auchtermuchty, Crail, Cupar, Elie and Earlsferry, Falkland, Kilrenny, Anstruther Easter and Anstruther Wester, Ladybank, Leven, Newburgh, Newport, Pittenweem, St. Andrews St. Monance and Tayport.
